Drunk EasyJet Pilot Roams Naked In African Hotel's Reception, Gym, Spa

An EasyJet pilot was suspended after he was allegedly found drunk and naked at a luxury hotel in Cape Verde, West Africa. The pilot, scheduled to operate a flight from Cape Verde back to the UK the next day, was found in an inebriated state in the early hours. The pilot reached the five-star Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa on August 4 and was reportedly seen drinking at a bar, The Independent reported. At around 2.30 am, he was reportedly observed removing his clothes. After undressing, he walked through the hotel's reception area and then entered the gym and spa facilities. He was later recognised by one of the passengers of EasyJet, who reported the incident to the airline company. Around 36 hours later, on the afternoon of August 6, he was scheduled to fly back to Gatwick, but EasyJet replaced him. The airline stated, "As soon as we were made aware, the pilot was immediately stood down from duty, in line with our procedures, pending an investigation. The safety of our passengers and crew is EasyJet's highest priority." The distance between Gatwick and Cape Verde is about 2,332 nautical miles, one of the longest routes for any EasyJet flight in Europe. It usually takes around six hours to complete. A spokesperson for EasyJet told the BBC that the safety of the passengers and crew was the airline's "highest priority" and that the pilot was currently under investigation. Earlier this year, a Southwest Airlines pilot was arrested after he showed up to fly a Chicago-bound flight in a heavily intoxicated state. The passengers were accommodated on other planes, and the flight headed for Georgia operated about four hours after the scheduled takeoff.

Drunk pilot strips naked hours before flying travellers home

He was so drunk that he was stumbling around naked in a five-star resort in the early morning — before onlookers realised it was their pilot about to fly them home just hours later. The boozed up captain had stripped off after a marathon drinking session and was seen in a 'paralytic' state about 2.30am wandering nude in the grounds of the $3130-a-week Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa in Cape Verde. The veteran EasyJet pilot had flown holidaymakers in from the UK on August 4 and was due to fly out of the West African archipelago with a plane load of travellers on August 6. But passengers realised who he was — and alerted the airline. 'EasyJet managers couldn't believe what they were being told but took immediate action after complaints were raised at the highest level,' a source at the airline told The Sun. 'Anyone who saw the pilot cavorting naked in the early hours on the day before a flight would not dream of getting on a plane with him at the controls. 'We all make mistakes but the level of stupidity on display here by a veteran captain beggars belief. 'The pilot did not have a stitch on and reeked of alcohol. 'He was so drunk that you wouldn't have put him in charge of a toy aeroplane, never mind the real thing with hundreds of passengers.' Witnesses told how at one point the sozzled pilot toddled off naked towards a closed bar area before veering to the gym and spa. 'This was breathtakingly unprofessional behaviour from the pilot,' the source said. 'It was the height of stupidity. His career with EasyJet is doomed.' EasyJet said at the weekend that the captain remained 'stood down' pending an ongoing investigation.
