Mellow Mushroom in Decatur Closes Suddenly
The Mellow Mushroom in downtown Decatur closed abruptly yesterday, June 16, following a social media announcement. The pizzeria location was open for nine years at 340 West Ponce de Leon Avenue. Co-owner Harvey Brown told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that local competition made it too financially taxing to keep the location open. 'It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of Mellow Mushroom Decatur. It has been an absolute pleasure working in this community and we will miss being able to be your go-to pizza place! We love you all and thank you for the years of joy you have brought to our Mellow team,' reads the Instagram post by Brown. This marks the second time the Atlanta-based pizza chain has closed in Decatur. It first closed in 2014 when it was located in the Commerce Square shopping center. It reopened and relocated in 2016 to Ponce de Leon Avenue under Brown's new ownership, replacing the New Orleans SnoBall Cafe. Brown says the location's nearly 50-person staff was informed of the closure yesterday, according to the AJC. He has attempted to find employment for the workers there. Mellow Mushroom is headquartered in Atlanta and has over 160 locations nationwide. See More: Atlanta Restaurant Closings

Downtown Nashville businesses gear up for 2025 CMA Fest
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – CMA Fest is expanding its footprint in downtown Nashville this year, so local businesses are gearing up for the influx of crowds on Broadway and beyond. 'It's like the championship of bartenders for downtown,' Faith Vaughns, a bartender at Mellow Mushroom, said. Downtown bars are used to being busy during the summer in Music City, but employees in that area told News 2 CMA Fest is something they prepare for every year. CMA Fest 2025: See which roads plan to close in downtown Nashville 'It gets pretty crazy. It's insane,' Vaughns added. 'There's so much going on. Everybody's in town for it. There's drinking, there's eating, there's several things to do down here.' Each year, thousands of fans come from all over the world to experience the four-day event hosted by the Country Music Association. 'We look forward to it,' Shelby Denman, a bartender at Teddy's Tavern, told News 2. 'It's like our busiest time of the year, too, and I'll be working here and CMAs, so it'll be a big, busy, long weekend.' The festival features multiple stages, concerts with some of the biggest names in country music, and several other activities throughout the city. Who's performing at CMA Fest? See the full 2025 lineup 'People aren't just here to be on Broadway and bar hop and stuff; they're here for CMAs and to be here and see all of that happening, so it's like they're here with a purpose, I guess, instead of just here to bar hop,' Denman explained. Downtown businesses encourage people to use rideshare apps, park smart, wear plenty of sunscreen, and stay hydrated in the summer heat. 'Most of the people that work down here, I mean, they work doubles, opens, 'clopens,' and it's a lot of hard work; it's a lot of blood, sweat, and tears that go into kind of the hosting and everything that goes into CMA Fest,' Vaughns described. Everything kicks off on Thursday, June 5, with performances scheduled every day through Sunday, June 8. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Popular Japanese store Daiso opens in Aurora; more locations expected soon
DENVER (KDVR) — A popular store that sells Japanese-inspired home decor, stationary, food and more has made its way to Colorado with the grand opening of another location. Daiso describes itself as a 'one-stop-shop for all your household needs.' The family-owned company made a name for itself in Asia before expanding to the U.S. According to the company's website, Daiso operates 6,000 stores across the world. In 2005, the company expanded to the U.S. where it now operates more than 150 stores. According to Japanese Taste, Daiso is a Japanese retailer that became famous for its inexpensive 100-yen offerings. Converted to U.S. dollars, 100 yen is about 66 cents. Mellow Mushroom on 16th Street Mall closes The second Colorado Daiso location opened Saturday in Aurora at 2353 S. Havana St., near the Village on the Park shopping mall. Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman stopped by the store during its grand opening weekend and noted in a Facebook post that the line was wrapped around the building. 'Welcome DAISO to Aurora. We are proud that you chose our diverse city to locate your newest store in the United States,' said Coffman on Facebook. Time magazine names Denver hotel as one of 'World's Greatest Places of 2025' This isn't the first Daiso to open in Colorado. According to a press release, the first Colorado location opened on March 15 in Fort Collins at 4300 S. College Ave., Suite 18. The company is expected to open two more stores by this spring — one in Centennial at Cherry Knolls and a second Aurora location at the Southlands Shopping Center.
