‘True construction' starting soon on EMI building
Renovation at the Erie Malleable Iron Building continues to move along swiftly, with 'true construction' scheduled to begin soon. Construction workers are repairing the brick and have removed 99 percent of the roof. Erie County mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus President & CEO of the Erie County Redevelopment Authority said they plan to install the new roof and windows within the next month. She added they are building for the future while honoring the history of the 12th Street corridor. Annual Equipment Day returns to Erie Zoo this weekend 'I can't tell you how exciting it is to be on site to see the progress and the bones of the building are so incredible its really inspiring. It reinforces that we did the right thing by saving this building and rebuilding it,' said Tina Mengine, president & CEO of the Erie County Redevelopment Authority. Deconstructing to reconstruct, work continues at former EMI site
If you're driving along Cherry Street you may notice more renovation taking place at the former Erie Malleable Iron building. The president and CEO of the Erie County Redevelopment Authority Tina Mengine said 'deconstructing to reconstruct' is taking place. Climb into spring break at ASCEND Erie's Spring Break Camp The back south wall of the former building has been taken down and progress to rebuild it will take place this week with bricks being pointed. Mengine says the project is moving along but there is still a lot that needs to be done including taking off the remaining roof, new windows, and signage. She said funding has played a crucial role in the project. She recalled an obstacle that was recently encountered. Construction coming along at new PSP Summit Twp. barracks 'So we had two grants that were at risk totaling about $5 million we were able to resolve the one grant thanks to the help of the state which leaves us with about $3 million still at risk which were hoping to work through much like we did that first one so that does impact obviously if that can't be resolved,' she explained.
