Mumbai to Mysuru: How a peddler's information led Maharashtra Police to bust ‘drug factory' in Karnataka
In one of the biggest drug hauls in Karnataka, the Mumbai police Sunday raided a garage in Mysuru to seize 187.97 kg of Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 381 crore, and arrested four people. The probe has revealed that 4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) was being manufactured in the Karnataka city and supplied across the country. The Mumbai police informed that they came to know that MDMA was being manufactured in Mysuru while interrogating one Salim Imtiyaz Shaikh alias Salim Langda in the Maharashtra capital. They further said that the garage, which was located on the service road of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Mysuru, was raided with the help of the Mysuru police. However, a Mysuru police source said the fact that the Mumbai police came to know about the garage first has caused huge embarrassment to top police officers in Mysuru. 'The garage was taken on rent by an individual for Rs 20,000 per month. However, half of the portion was being used to manufacture MDMA… Though there are no documents, it is believed that the space was unofficially sublet for more than Rs five lakh,' the source added. Meanwhile, soon after the raid, Mysuru Police Commissioner Seema Latkar ordered the suspension of Narasimharaja police station Inspector Lakshmikant Talwar, pending a departmental inquiry. City Crime Branch (CCB) Inspector Shabbir Hussain was given the additional charge of Narasimharaja police station. But Talwar's suspension was revoked a day later. On Sunday night, Latkar and other senior police officers also conducted multiple raids at the houses of those who were previously involved in drug peddling in Mysuru. On Monday, Karnataka Opposition leader R Ashoka attacked the government over the drug haul episode. He questioned what the home department was doing when an illegal drug factory was being operated in Mysuru. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said he has given clear instructions to the police to initiate action. 'If jurisdictional police are not aware of such activities and some other agency or state police carry out raids and make arrests, it means there are lapses. I have asked the police to take drug-related issues seriously,' he added. Sources said the drug seizure by the Mumbai police has caused added embarrassment to the state government on account of Mysuru being the home district of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Drug cartel cooks Rs 50 cr ketamine in buffalo barn: Secret lab in Rajasthan busted; leads cops to Maharashtra factory
NEW DELHI: A joint operation by Rajasthan and Maharashtra police, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has led to the busting of a drug cartel, which was using a buffalo barn in Barmer, Rajasthan, as cover to manufacture Mephedrone and Ketamine, with drugs and equipment worth Rs 50 crore being seized from the site and from Raigad in Maharashtra. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The cartel was into manufacturing synthetic drugs at clandestine labs in remote areas. As much as 34 kg of Ketamine powder and 12 litres of liquid drugs were seized during the operation, officials said. The operation began with the detection of a clandestine facility at village Dholakia in Barmer district, where police found precursor chemicals and lab equipment used to manufacture the synthetic drug Mephedrone. "The facility was cleverly concealed inside a buffalo barn in a secluded area of the village. Two members of the drug syndicate were detained by the police. NCB Jodhpur collaborated with the district police in the investigation," a senior officer said. During interrogation, the accused revealed the involvement of other members of the syndicate, including one who was a resident of Raigad district in Maharashtra and had supplied the chemicals and lab equipment to set up the facility. A search of the premises by NCB Mumbai and Raigad police led to the recovery of approximately 34 kg of Ketamine in powder form and 12 litres of Ketamine in liquid form, along with precursor chemicals and lab equipment. The investigations have revealed the involvement of a mastermind who has been involved in drug trafficking cases earlier. The successful operation was made possible due to real-time sharing of information and coordinated efforts by Barmer police, Raigad police, and NCB zones at Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai.

Drug Lab Hidden In A Buffalo Barn: Rajasthan, Maharashtra Police Bust Inter-State Syndicate
The facility contained large amounts of precursor chemicals like Chloroform, Ammonium Chloride, and Toluene — typically used in the manufacture of Mephedrone. In a major crackdown on synthetic drug manufacturing, police teams from Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) joined forces to bust an inter-state drug syndicate operating clandestine labs. The operation began on July 22, 2025, when Barmer district police detected a hidden lab inside a buffalo barn in Village Dholakia. The facility contained large amounts of precursor chemicals like Chloroform, Ammonium Chloride, and Toluene — typically used in the manufacture of Mephedrone. Lab equipment was also seized from the remote location, and two individuals were detained at the site. The NCB's Jodhpur unit soon joined the investigation, helping identify links to Maharashtra. During interrogation, one of the arrested men revealed that a key member of the syndicate hailed from Raigad district in Maharashtra and had transported chemicals and equipment to set up the Barmer lab. This tip-off led Raigad police and NCB Mumbai to swiftly act and detain the suspect. Investigations pointed to a shut factory — M/s Rohan Chemicals in Mahad — that was secretly being used to manufacture synthetic drugs. A raid at the premises resulted in the recovery of 34 kg of powdered Ketamine, 12 litres in liquid form, and a cache of precursor chemicals. Authorities also discovered that the main mastermind was a repeat offender, already under the radar for earlier drug cases handled by the DRI and NCB. The back-to-back raids and coordinated intelligence sharing between police units in Barmer, Raigad, and NCB zones in Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai led to the quick dismantling of the drug network. Investigations are still ongoing, with both Barmer and Raigad police pursuing various leads. This bust comes close on the heels of another similar operation in Sri Ganganagar, where 5 kg of Mephedrone was seized and even science teachers were found involved. To help identify such secret drug-making hubs, NCB has circulated 'red flag indicators" to all state police departments and urges citizens to share drug-related information via the toll-free helpline 1933. Identities of callers will be kept confidential. view comments First Published: July 28, 2025, 10:19 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. NCB busts clandestine drug lab in Raigad, inter-state syndicate
MUMBAI: The Mumbai unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), with the help of the Raigad police, recently busted an illegal, clandestine drug laboratory manufacturing Ketamine, operating inside the closed factory premises of a defunct private chemical firm at Mahad in Raigad. The search led to the seizure of 34 kg of powdered Ketamine and 12 litres of liquid Ketamine, along with a stock of precursor chemicals and lab equipment, NCB officials said on Sunday. The search led to the seizure of 34 kg of powdered Ketamine and 12 litres of liquid Ketamine The operation in Raigad was conducted based on leads procured from a joint operation by NCB and the Rajasthan police operation in Barmer, Rajasthan, on July 22 and 23. The officials discovered a mephedrone (MD)-making facility in a buffalo barn in the Dholakia village, allegedly being run by an inter-state syndicate that specialises in synthetic drugs, said officials. The Barmer facility also had a stock of several precursor chemicals like chloroform, ammonium chloride, propylene chloride, toluene, and bromine, along with lab equipment to manufacture MD, the officials said. Two alleged members of the group were detained, and their interrogation revealed the involvement of other associates, including a Raigad resident who allegedly provided the chemicals and the lab equipment to set up the Barmer facility, the officials said. The Raigad police promptly detained one suspect, who told the police he used to work in Mahad in a private chemical factory that is now closed. The search of the closed factory premises of Raigad led to the recovery of the Ketamine, along with several precursor chemicals and laboratory equipment, the officials said. The shut premises were being used to run the Ketamine-manufacturing lab. Investigation has further revealed the involvement of the mastermind who was earlier involved in drug trafficking cases of the NCB and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence,' a NCB official said. To arrest the trend of manufacturing of synthetic drugs in clandestine facilities, the NCB has shared 'red flag indicators' for identification of such potential facilities with the heads of state police forces across the country, the official said. The NCB had earlier busted a clandestine lab manufacturing Mephedrone in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, in which five kilograms of Mephedrone drug with precursor chemicals were recovered, and the accused, including a few teachers of physics and chemistry, were arrested, the official said.
