This Mercedes Red Pig Isn't What It Seems

Read the full story on Backfire News The Mercedes 'Red Pig' is famous among fans of AMG, the high-performance division in the automaker. After all, it's the car that started it all. From time to time, someone creates a tribute to the heavily modified Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL, but this one isn't what it the exterior is faithful enough to the original, grafted to the 300 SEL body is a 2017 Mercedes-MG C63 S chassis. If that sounds insane, it is, so it seems fitting the build comes from none other than S-Klub, a shop in Los Angeles that's famous for over-the-top creations like this. We profiled another build of theirs before, a widebody Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing that also uses modern AMG power. The story behind this build apparently involves a friend of the shop buying a partially done, partially botched Red Pig tribute car, asking the S-Klub to do it properly. They did with their typical flair, as you can clearly see. What's truly amazing is the shop finished the project in just 40 days. That's beyond impressive, crossing over into the insane. Considering S-Klub doesn't just slop through things, and the details of this car look amazing, that wasn't accomplished by cutting corners. You'll note bits of modernity are present on the exterior, like the blacked-out trim, carbon fiber pieces with exposed weave, and of course modern LED headlights with red halos. That's the first sign this isn't just a straight tribute car. Rather than just leave the C63 S powertrain alone, they upgraded the turbos, downpipe, and did some other tweaks. Horsepower has been pushed from the factory rating of 503 to 1,000. The guy from S-Klub says it's a legitimate racecar. There are a lot of cool details on this build, especially if you pull up a photo of the original Red Pig and reference that as you watch. For fans of Mercedes and especially AMG it's a real treat. Oman to host inaugural classics car rally from Feb 17

MUSCAT, FEB 15: Oman is set to welcome its first-ever classic car rally, Oman Classic — The First Drive, from February 17 to 21, featuring 12 legendary automobiles from Germany, Switzerland, the UK and the UAE. This event promises a visual treat for motor enthusiasts as these vintage masterpieces take to the streets of the Sultanate of Oman. The lineup includes rare automotive icons from the late 1950s and early 1960s, such as the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing and Roadster, the Jaguar E-Type and the Mercedes-Benz Pagoda. The rally is organised by Al Mamari & Kiefer Investments LLC (AKI) in collaboration with Germany's HK Engineering and is supported by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Oman Automobile Association (OAA) and Muscat Municipality. Zainab Al Maamari, the event's organiser, shared her remarks to Observer that the rally aims to celebrate Oman's heritage through these historic vehicles. "Classic cars are rich in history, and their owners appreciate heritage and strong roots, much like Oman itself. We envision this as an annual event, exploring different parts of the country each year," she said. As a prelude to the rally, a prestigious Gala Night of Oman Classics will be held under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Said al Maamari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs. This exclusive evening will bring together collectors, industry leaders and enthusiasts to celebrate automotive excellence, luxury and heritage. A key highlight of the event is the presence of Hans Kleissl, a world-renowned expert in classic Mercedes-Benz restoration and the mastermind behind HK Engineering, the only company dedicated exclusively to the full restoration of the legendary 300SL Gullwing. "With decades of experience, his expertise has helped preserve and elevate the 300SL's legacy as one of the most sought-after collector cars in history," added Al Maamari. The public will have a rare opportunity to view these iconic machines up close on February 21 at 6 pm at the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM).
