Toddler dies after car crashes into ditch in Brush
DENVER (KDVR) — A 1-year-old died after a car rolled into a water-filled ditch in Brush, the Colorado State Patrol said. CSP said Wednesday that the incident happened shortly after midnight on April 24 when a single car crashed on Morgan County Road South near Hazel Street. When troopers and police arrived on the scene, they said a gray Mercedes C300 had rolled into a water-filled ditch near the county road. Following a preliminary investigation, CSP said the Mercedes was driving eastbound on Morgan County Road South when the driver drove off the left side of the road and onto the side of the irrigation ditch. The Mercedes then rolled into the ditch, where it became submerged in water. CSP said the car came to a rest on the driver's side. ICE to issue $8M in fines to 3 Colorado businesses for illegal employment practices CSP said the driver was a 34-year-old woman who had a 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old girl in the car. Both toddlers were reportedly in car seats. The investigation found that the driver and the 3-year-old passenger were able to get out of the vehicle. They were both taken to the hospital, where the driver was evaluated for moderate injuries and the 3-year-old for minor injuries. CSP said the 1-year-old passenger was unable to remove herself from her car seat and was trapped in the water. A Brush police officer rescued the child from the car and took her to a local hospital, where she later died. The crash is under investigation. No arrests or charges have been made at this time. 1-year-old stuck in seat dies after woman, child escape submerged car, CO cops say
A woman and a young child escaped a car that rolled into an irrigation ditch, but a 1-year-old was stuck in her seat and died, Colorado officials said. State troopers were called to the wreck on a rural road in Brush a little after midnight April 24, the Colorado State Patrol said in an April 30 news release. A Mercedes C300 rolled into an irrigation ditch next to the roadway, troopers said. The 34-year-old woman driving the car and one of the passengers, a 3-year-old girl, were able to get out, troopers said. But the 1-year-old girl 'was unable to remove herself from her car seat and became trapped in the water,' troopers said. An officer from the Brush Police Department freed her, but she was later pronounced dead at a hospital, according to troopers. The driver and 3-year-old also were taken to a hospital, with moderate injuries for the driver and minor injuries for the girl, troopers said. It appears from the preliminary investigation the car 'drove off the left side of the road and onto the side of an irrigation ditch,' troopers said, adding that 'the Mercedes rolled down into the ditch where it came to rest on the driver's side, submerging it in water.' Troopers didn't release the names of the driver or young passengers, who both were in car seats. The wreck still is being investigated, and no arrests have been made or charges filed, according to troopers. Brush is about a 93-mile drive northeast from Denver.

Man indicted in shooting that killed 3-year-old boy at Fort Lauderdale birthday party
A grand jury has indicted a Fort Lauderdale man on first-degree murder in the drive-by shooting death of 3-year-old Rylo Yancy last summer. Rylo was tragically gunned down while attending a Sesame Street-themed birthday party at Riverland Park & Pool on Sunday afternoon, July 21. Paramedics rushed the child to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died. READ MORE: 'He was too good for this world': Family mourns 3-year-old boy killed at a birthday party After the barrage of gunfire, two cars —a 2024 red Mercedes-Benz C300 and a 2017 black Mercedes-Benz C300 — sped away from the scene. Police found the vehicles days later, but the investigation into who pulled the triggers that day remained under investigation. On Monday, Fort Lauderdale police homicide detectives identified one of them as 20-year-old Tyler Hollins, who was already in Broward County jail on a December arrest on charges of possession of a firearm by a delinquent and unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon, according to Broward County court records. Details of what led detectives to link Hollins to Rylo's murder were not immediately available — nor was the grand jury report Fort Lauderdale police cautioned that, despite Hollins' arrest, more suspects have yet to be arrested. 'While this arrest marks significant progress in this murder investigation, there is still work to be done. Detectives have identified additional suspects involved in this shooting and are working to ensure those suspects are held accountable,' Detective Ali Adamson, a Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman, said in a statement. 'Additionally, detectives continue to seek the public's assistance and urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the remaining suspects to come forward,' Adamson said. In his prior arrest, detectives with Broward Sheriff's Office's Burglary Apprehension Team were tailing a gray Mercedes C300 sedan Dec. 30 on Pines Boulevard. Detectives were waiting for the car to stop to arrest another man in the car, who had an outstanding warrant, according to a BSO arrest report. The car pulled into a parking lot, where Hollins got out of the Mercedes and into the backseat of a Kia, the report states, while two other men remained in the Mercedes. Florida Highway Patrol tried to get the driver of the Mercedes to pull over, but he sped off, with troopers ramming the car to get it to finally stop, the report states. The two men got into the Kia, the driver of which did pull over for police. Officers found Hollins packing a Glock 47 handgun loaded with 14 rounds, according to the report. The gun was reported stolen from a car in Boca Raton, the report states. Rylo was remembered by family members as an intelligent little boy who began talking when he was 9 months old. 'He brought peace and happiness to a household that was upside down,' his grandfather, Jerrold Pough, said days after the child's nulldeath. 'Even now, he's still bringing us together.
