Perak govt hopes Seri Iskandar sports complex proposal included in 13MP

PARIT: The construction of the Seri Iskandar Sports Complex, which has been underway since 2018, is expected to receive attention in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as one of the priority projects for sports development in Perak. State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said the project had been initiated during the leadership of former Parit Member of Parliament Datuk Mohd Nizar Zakaria before being continued by former exco Khairul Shahril Mohamed. "… now I personally take responsibility to ensure the continuity of the effort. Several series of site visits have been conducted with the Development Division of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), the Perak State Youth and Sports Department (JBSN) and the Central Perak District and Land Office to identify a suitable location," he said. He said this at a press conference after greeting 68 participants of the Mercedes Classic Merdeka Convoy 2025 at Dataran Cempaka Sari near here, today. Khairudin said that among the efforts that had been initiated since 2018 included assessing the suitability of the location, but the proposed site submitted by the land office required a relatively high cost of land treatment. He said that if the location had been identified and land treatment had been carried out, a full application could be submitted and included in the Development Plan (RP) in the 13MP. Meanwhile, he said that his party had gone to the field twice with the KBS, JBSN Perak and district officers to assess the main site as well as another alternative site was being considered. He said that the construction of the complex was to fulfil the dream of the Perak Tengah community to have an integrated sports centre capable of organising state and national-level events, thus further enhancing the district's image as a new development hub in Perak. Previously, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Adam Adli Abdul Halim said that KBS was working with the Perak State Government to identify an alternative site for the proposed construction of a sports complex in Seri Iskandar. He said the application regarding the project is expected to be brought back for consideration under 13MP, which is around the end of this year to next year. — BERNAMA
