Merry Hill mall enjoys record-breaking first-half footfall

It's been a good year so far for Merry Hill so far and helping the West Midlands mall maintain its position 'as one of the UK's top 10 super-regional destinations', is record footfall, reporting a 5.6% year-on-year increase for the first half of 2025. The momentum continued in June as the centre also experienced a 3.7% uplift compared to the same month last year, as it continued a 12-month rolling increase of 3.3%. 'This growth across the destination significantly outperforms the super regional benchmark', which up until the end of May was tracking at +2.6%, as measured by Savills, operator Sovereign Centros from CBRE said. What's more, the centre 'is now on track to exceed 15.5 million visitors in 2025, following a year of major investment and proactive asset management', it added. The centre, which features more than 175 brands, has also benefitted from further investment from anchor tenants including H&M, and M&S for its newest store concept, alongside the England debut of Australia-based international retailer Harvey Norman. The operator noted the positive trajectory was also boosted by several high-profile leisure attractions, including Hollywood Bowl and XF Gym. Alistair Winning, asset manager at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, added: "From a leasing and asset management perspective, the first half of this year has been a reflection of the transformation Merry Hill has undergone over the last few years. We're seeing tremendous confidence from both new and existing tenants. This wave of investment, driven by our proactive asset management strategy, is creating a truly compelling destination that keeps visitors coming back time and time again, solidifying our position as one of the UK's top super regional destinations.'

Plans unveiled for new ‘experience' store in former card shop in shopping centre

PLANS to bring a brand-new experience store to Merry Hill Shopping Centre have been unveiled. A large blue and yellow branded sign has been erected covering the former site of Cardzone in the shopping centre's upper mall by Costa Coffee, advertising telecoms giants, EE, will be bringing an all-new experience store. The current EE store in the centre is still open as usual, with no news indicating whether it will close following the opening of this larger new site. Shoppers will have to wait in anticipation to find out an opening date, with EE so far simply saying the new store is 'coming soon'. The EE Experience stores are bigger than the typical retail store and are designed with dedicated 'experience zones' to provide a more immersive space for customers to get hands-on with EE's latest connected technology. Despite the EE experience store taking over its former home in the shopping centre, Cardzone has not left Brierley Hill. According to the shopping centre's site plan on its website, Cardzone has been relocated to the former Card Stop site next to the Black Country Hub. Card Stop went into administration earlier this year in March, with the store in Merry Hill subsequently closing.

Shopping centre plans weekend of bank holiday fun – including an indoor field

HAVE you ever been left frustrated that your bank holiday plans have been ruined because of a spell of bad weather? Sick of getting rained on during a picnic? Well, you may be in luck this late May bank holiday. Merry Hill Shopping Centre has announced its programme of fun Bank Holiday activities, including something rather unique. The centre will be covering its central event space in the lower mall with real grass, turning it into an indoor field. From Friday, May 23 until Monday, May 26, shoppers will be able to sit down and enjoy a picnic, take part in sports day events and have a boogie at a silent disco. You can leave the umbrellas and suncream at home, and won't even have to worry about bugs as Merry Hill gears up to "bring the outside in". The centre said shoppers can also just head to the field for a 'moment of relaxation or to catch up with your loved ones during your shopping day'. It said: 'Just turn up and touch the grass (literally!)' The event is completely free and will make sure that you can enjoy the bank holiday weekend, whatever the weather.
