Two men bailed after quadbike crash
Two men arrested after a quadbike crash have been released on conditional bail, police have said. A 20-year-old man from Brynmawr, Blaenau Gwent, was pronounced dead at the scene after a quadbike was found overturned on the A465 westbound between Rhymney, Caerphilly, and Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, at around 04:50 BST on Saturday. A 40-year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil had been arrested on suspicion of murder, driving while unfit through drink, and driving while unfit through drugs. A second man, a 37-year-old from Merthyr Tydfil, had been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender. Both have been released on conditional bail as enquiries continue. Police believe a second vehicle - a white BMW found burned out in the Dowlais area - may have been involved in the crash. Young filmmakers are making their mark on the industry with a record number of nominations at this year's Into Film Awards. Wales has received seven nominations across 11 categories for the 2025 awards, the highest of any Celtic nation, with nominees from Cardiff, Conwy, Gwynedd, Merthyr Tydfil, and Swansea. The nominees will attend the ceremony in London's Leicester Square on June 24. Jack Sargeant, Welsh minister for culture, said: "Wales is showing itself to be a powerhouse of young creative talent, as can clearly be seen by the record-breaking number of Welsh nominees this year." The Into Film Awards celebrate the creativity of young people in film and are supported by the UK film industry. This year's nominations highlight the growing strength of Wales' film sector, following the recent success of productions like Netflix's Havoc and Mr Burton. The nominated films reflect a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Animated Voices, made by young people from ethnic minority backgrounds in Cardiff, explores their lives in the UK, while Mariupol tells the story of the war in Ukraine through the eyes of a displaced individual. Non Stevens, head of Into Film Cymru, said: "We're thrilled to see diverse young Welsh voices achieving record-breaking recognition at this year's Into Film Awards. "From Penygroes to Cardiff, from animation to documentary, these young creators are telling authentic stories with exceptional creativity and technical skill. "The record number of nominations this year not only reflects growing confidence and talent but also shows how film education can inspire the next generation of Welsh storytellers."

Two arrested after fatal quadbike crash on major Welsh road

The crash happened on the A465 westbound, between Rhymney and Dowlais on Saturday morning, May 31, in South Wales and a 20-year-old man from Brynmawr was pronounced dead. Emergency services were called, after reports of a crash where a a quadbike was found overturned at around 4.50am on Saturday, May 31. Gwent Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested in connection with the early morning crash, reports WalesOnline. Paramedics pronounced the 20-year-old man dead at the scene after he was found next to the overturned quadbike. A 40-year-old man from Merthyr is currently in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder and driving whilst unfit through drink and driving whilst unfit through drugs. A 37-year-old from Merthyr has also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender and remains in police custody at this time.
