Top-ranked player in NY puts Oregon Football among top schools

Top-ranked player in NY puts Oregon Football among top schools NEWS: Four-Star WR Messiah Hampton is down to 7 Schools, he tells me for @on3recruits The 6'1 187 WR from Rochester, NY will announce his Commitment on June 13th He's ranked as a Top 50 Recruit in the 2026 Class (No. 7 WR) in the On300https:// — Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) May 25, 2025 The Oregon Ducks have long thought to be the leader when it comes to the recruitment of 4-star wide receiver Messiah Hampton, so it came as no surprise over the weekend when the No. 1 ranked player from the state of New York announced his top-seven schools and have Dan Lanning's squad in the mix. Hampton, who the 247Sports Composite rates as the No. 100 player in the 2026 class and the No. 11 WR, put the Ducks among his top schools along with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, Syracuse Orange, Michigan Wolverines, Georgia Bulldogs, and Miami Hurricanes. Standing a 6-foot, 170 pounds, Hampton has some good size and projects as a high-upside player in an offense that likes to spread the ball around, as Oregon does. Earlier this month, the Ducks picked some big news, with On3's Steve Wiltfong placing a prediction for Hampton to commit to Oregon. Oregon fans will remember well the last time Oregon landed the top-ranked player from New York, with WR Seven McGee committing to the Ducks in the class of 2021. While he played for a couple of years in Eugene, McGee ended up transferring away from Oregon after Dan Lanning's first year with the program. Hampton, who has not yet set a commitment date, will take an official visit to Oregon on June 13. Michigan football named in top 7 by 2026 four-star wide receiver Messiah Hampton

Michigan football is looking to improve its wide receiver recruiting as of late, especially considering the pass game is due to take off with Chip Lindsey taking over as the offensive coordinator and with No. 1 overall quarterback in the 2025 class, Bryce Underwood, leading the charge under center. Yet, many prospects will believe the Wolverines will have a passing resurgence when they see it, thus, it's been a bit slow on the recruiting front. Still, the maize and blue are in the thick of it with some high-end wideouts, including four-stars Travis Johnson and Zion Robinson, and five-star Calvin Russell. A top-flight receiver puts Michigan football in his top group Another receiver that the Wolverines are in good shape with is 2026 Rochester (N.Y.) James Monroe four-star Messiah Hampton. Listed by On3 as the No. 48 player in the country, regardless of position, the elite wideout is getting closer to closing down his recruitment. Advertisement Set to make his commitment to his school of choice on June 13, the 6-foot, 170-pound receiver dropped his top seven schools on Sunday, and Michigan football made the cut, along with Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Georgia, Miami, and Oregon. Michigan is not slated to get an official visit from Hampton. He is expected to be on campus at Oregon on June 13, so there's no telling whether the Ducks are the likely destination or if he'll shift things compared to his original plans. The Wolverines currently have one wide receiver committed to the 2026 class in Dallas (Tx.) Parish Episcopal three-star Jaylen Pile. USC in the Mix for New York's No. 1 Recruit Amid Push From Big Ten Rivals

The USC Trojans are attempting their version of an east coast takeover. USC is in the mix to land the state of New York's top prospect, all amid a push from Big Ten rivals to nab him. Brian Dohn of 247Sports revealed Tuesday USC will be the last summer visit for Messiah Hampton of James Monroe High School in Rochester. The four-star wide receiver ranks as the state's top overall prospect by 247Sports and its composite rankings. Advertisement Dohn shared new intel on where things are recruiting wise for the dynamic 6-foot, 170-pound wideout -- including when he'll make a trip out west to visit USC. Jonathan Hui-Imagn ImagesJonathan Hui-Imagn Images "Top247 wide receiver Messiah Hampton is coming off his Penn State official visit. The trip was a positive, sources said. They also said that Oregon remains the school to beat but not to sleep on Ohio State," Dohn said. Those are all conference rivals of the Trojans. But here's where the Trojans bring an advantage per Dohn: USC will host Hampton between June 20-22, which is his last official visit. Lincoln Riley and the Trojans have the final opportunity among his visits to coax Hampton into committing. Advertisement "It is clear that the 6-foot, 170-pound Hampton likes established programs," Dohn said. Yet, which Big Ten school has the upper hand in Hampton's recruitment? "For a while, Ohio State was a school that he liked a ton because of its receiver development, he said. However, the Ducks solidified their spot with him during the spring, and NIL and revenue sharing are factors in his recruitment," Dohn shared. It's not just the Big Ten powers including USC courting Hampton. Miami out of the Atlantic Coast Conference is in the fold too. Dohn added how Hampton is connected to 7-on-7 program The 24K Organization out in Orlando. Which allowed him to build a connection with the Hurricanes. Advertisement USC inside wide receivers/tight ends coach Chad Savage is leading the way in recruiting Hampton. The WR already has 90 career receptions for 1,366 yards and 21 touchdowns across two seasons on varsity, per MaxPreps. He also scored one rushing TD last season. Oregon Football picks up prediction to land No. 1 player in New York for 2026 class

The Oregon Ducks got a major win in the recruiting world over the weekend with the addition of 5-star EDGE Richard Wesley in the 2026 class, and they're looking to continue that momentum over the next few weeks. On Monday, the Ducks picked some big news, with On3's Steve Wiltfong placing a prediction for 4-star wide receiver Messiah Hampton to commit to Oregon. Hampton is one of the Ducks' top prospects in the 2026 class, rated by the 247Sports composite as the No. 99 player in the class and the No. 13 WR. Hampton is rated even more favorably by On3, listed as the No. 49 player in the 2026 class and the No. 7 WR.
