Miley Cyrus reveals medical condition behind her raspy voice — and why she won't fix it
Miley Cyrus' raspy voice is no accident. The Grammy winner, 32, revealed that her signature music sound is actually the result of having a vocal cord disorder called Reinke's edema. In her May 21 interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Cyrus described the disorder as 'abuse of the vocal cords.' 6 Miley Cyrus performs at the 2024 Grammy Awards. So my voice always sounded like this — it's a part of my unique anatomy.' 6 Miley Cyrus during her interview with Zane Lowe. Apple Music/Youtube According to the Cleveland Clinic, Reinke's edema is a benign condition that causes swelling in the vocal chord. It's most common in females and with people who have a long-term history of smoking. The 'Flowers' singer explained that she has a 'large polyp' on her vocal chords 'which has given me a lot of the tone and the texture that has made me who I am.' 6 Miley Cyrus performs at Movistar Arena in Bogota, Colombia in March 2022. 'Even when I'm talking sometimes, at the end of the day I'll call my mom and she'll go, 'Oh, you sound like you're talking through a radio,'' Cyrus continued. 'And that's how you know I'm really tired, because it creates that ultimate vocal fry.' 6 Miley Cyrus performs on New Year's Eve in December 2021. 'My voice is super unique because of it, but i do have this Reinke's edema and I have this large polyp on my chords, and I'm not willing to sever it ever, because the chance of waking up from a surgery and not sounding like myself is a probability,' she said. 'I really had it on my heart that I don't speak and don't really care to talk about this thing that's really precious and really private to me,' she added. 'But it is a real thing.' 6 Miley Cyrus at the Bud Light Super Bowl Music Festival in Los Angeles in Feb. 2022. Cyrus has been busy promoting her upcoming visual album, 'Something Beautiful,' out May 30.

Pregnant Rihanna and Ciara reunite at Met Gala 2025 after explosive Twitter spat
Shining bright light diamonds — together. Pregnant Rihanna and Ciara happily reunited at the 2025 Met Gala over a decade after they got into an explosive argument on Twitter. The pair took pictures together in New York on Met Gala Monday. Ciara, 39, rested her hand on Rihanna's baby bump, after the 'Umbrella' singer, 37, revealed her third pregnancy at the event. 12 Ciara and Rihanna at the Met Gala The Met Museum/Vogue 12 Ciara holds Rihanna's baby bump at the Met Gala on May The Met Museum/Vogue Both stars were dressed to the nines for the Met Gala. Ciara wore a LaQuan Smith-designed black-and-silver bodycon floor length dress with diamond-like string accents, while Rihanna rocked a Marc Jacobs gray bustier with a black floor-length skirt and cropped black jacket. Ciara and Rihanna also posed in a group photo with their respective partners, Russell Wilson and A$AP Rocky, and 'Wicked' star Jeff Goldblum. 12 Jeff Goldblum, Met Gala Co-Chair, A$AP Rocky, Russell Wilson, Ciara and Rihanna at the Met The Met Museum/Vogue 12 Rihanna arrives at the 2025 Met Gala in New York. Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue Rihanna's feud with Ciara started in 2011 over comments that Ciara made on E!'s 'Fashion Police.' At the time, Ciara told the late Joan Rivers that Rihanna 'wasn't the nicest' to her when they crossed paths at a party. 'It's crazy because I've always loved and respected what she's done with fashion,' the '1,2 Step' singer said. 'I've run into her before but this time it wasn't the most pleasant run-in.' 12 Ciara at the 'Station Invasion Concert Tour' in New York in Aug. 2011. 'Trust me Rhianna u dont want to see me on or off the stage,' Ciara wrote back, to which Rihanna replied, 'U gangsta huh? Haaa…Good luck with bookin that stage u speak of.' 12 Rihanna at Coachella Music Festival in April 2011. That's y I retaliated this way! So sorry! #letsmakeup.' Ciara accepted Rihanna's apology, writing, 'Rhi u know its always been love since day 1! Doing shows/everything. you threw me off in that party! Apology accepted. Let's chat in person.' 12 Ciara, Rihanna at the 2010 Grammy Awards. 'I thought everything was cool because I actually saw Rihanna two years ago at the MET Gala after we had the little small back and forth and from what I recall everything was cool,' Ciara told Chicago's 107.5 FM at the time. 12 Rihanna, Ciara and Patti Labelle at the 2007 World Music Awards. 'If you would have asked me about her up until this point I would have nothing but good things to say because I'm really happy for her. But I didn't receive what they did from a positive place.' The singers appeared to be on good terms again come Feb. 2018, when Ciara wished Rihanna a happy birthday on Twitter. 'Remembering the 1st time we met. It's been cool to see you kill it! Keep on soaring ma!' Ciara's message read.
