Trials begin on Metro 9 corridor from Dahisar to Mira-Bhayander
Trial runs on the 13.6km Metro 9 corridor between Dahisar and Mira-Bhayander, Thane district's first Metro corridor, began on Wednesday in the presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis. The CM, along with deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, also took a short ride during the trial. With completion of 96% of the civil work and 75% of system integration, MMRDA is targeting commissioning of a 4.4km stretch between Dahisar and Kashigaon by the year-end. It has now begun dynamic trials on the up and down lines, which will include load testing, signalling and traction checks, as well as emergency preparedness drills. "This line will play a key role in decongesting traffic on Western Express Highway. For Mira-Bhayander residents, it will be a game changer. We are committed to opening 50km of Metro routes this year, 62km next year, and another 60km the year after that," Fadnavis said. Once operational, the Metro 9 line will connect 10 stations, with Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon likely to be opened first. The corridor will be integrated with Metro 2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar) and eventually provide seamless access to the airport via Metros 7 and 7A. It will also offer connectivity to the upcoming Metro 10 (Gaimukh-Shivaji Chowk) and Metro 13 (Vasai-Virar) corridors. Shinde said the extension towards Virar will ensure direct Metro connectivity for Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts. tnn

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 14 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, on Wednesday conducted a technical inspection of the metro from Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon on metro route nine. Speaking at the inauguration, Fadnavis said that the metro route would greatly benefit Mira Bhayandar and passengers coming from Mumbai, further stating that the main aim was to achieve seamless connectivity. We want to achieve seamless connectivity,' Fadnavis said, speaking at the inauguration. He further stated that this was the first time in the Mumbai Metro rail that a double chamber was being built. 'The metro and train bridge will be seen in a single structure. This will reduce major traffic congestion. This will be extended to Virar. All metros are being connected to each other. We will work at a faster pace now. All these works will be done by the end of 2027,' he further added. Earlier, Fadnavis had inaugurated the first cable-stayed road bridge at Reay Road in Mumbai along with Titwala Road Over Bridge via video-conferencing. Devendra Fadnavis said, 'The first cable-stayed Road over Bridge (ROB) has been inaugurated. A very beautiful, aesthetic cable-stayed bridge is visible, people will benefit a lot from this. While Titwala ROB has also been inaugurated, with the help of MAHARAIL, work on more bridges will be completed. This corporation MAHARAIL has done a lot of good work.' Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), also known as MahaRail, announced the inauguration of two newly constructed Road Over Bridges at Reay Road and Titwala. Metro 3 BKC-Worli route's opening day sees over 26,000 riders
MUMBAI: The first day of the extended underground Mumbai Metro 3 line from Bandra Kurla Complex to Acharya Atre Chowk has brought relief to residents along its alignment. On Saturday, until 8 pm, 26,758 passengers had used the metro as compared to 15,911 who availed of its services on May 3 until 8 pm when the metro's operations had not extended beyond BKC. Among the joyriders over the weekend were a group of Mahim residents who hopped on to the metro at Sitaladevi Mandir station. 'We are impressed with its modern infrastructure, speedy travel time and comfortable coaches,' said Mahim resident Irfan Macchiwala. 'Metro 3 is a game changer for the metropolis. It connects the heart of the city in minutes and is a relief from the overcrowded roads and local trains.' Some passengers took to social media to share their feedback with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL). '…It was an awesome feeling like any other metro in a foreign country. A few suggestions, 1. While travelling from Shivaji Park to Acharya Atre Chowk stop, the indicator was not working and there was no dustbin at the exit to throw the used tickets,' posted Amey on X. (Sic) Melville D'Souza, another X user, said that though the Metro 3 line looked 'fantastic', the exits were not properly named on the map. 'Please put proper signage,' he urged. 'There seems to be a mistake/ mismatch in the maps at Siddhivinayak Metro; the exit towards Kirti College is mentioned as Exit A2 on the underground entrance but on the map outside the station the same exit shows (as) Exit A3.' To improve footfalls and encourage people to travel by metro instead of private vehicles, MMRCL has entered into a collaboration with a mall. 'As part of our commitment to seamless travel, we have joined hands with Phoenix Palladium Mall, Lower Parel, to offer a free shuttle service from Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli Naka) Metro Station to the mall, enhancing last-mile connectivity,' said an MMRCL official. The Metro 3 route has been operational between Aarey-JVLR and BKC, a length of 12.69 km, since October. The extended portion adds 9.77 km and six metro stations—Dharavi, Sitaladevi Mandir, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk. The entire route up to Cuffe Parade is 33.5 km long and is expected to start in mid-August. Metro 9 trials from next week During the inspection of Mumbai Metro 9, from Dahisar East to Bhayandar, transport minister Pratap Sarnaik told media persons that trial runs would begin between Dahisar East and Kashigaon next week. Trial runs are mandatory before operationalising the metro line. Mumbai Metro 9 is being constructed by MMRDA. Owing to car depot-related challenges, the route has been split into two phases. The 4.5 km-long Dahisar East-to-Kashigaon route, with four metro stations, will commence by the end of the year, an extension to the existing Metro 7 (Gundavali to Dahisar). In the future, it will also connect to Line 10.
