Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 15 flagged off the trial run of the Phase-1 of the Metro Line-9 between Dahisar (East) and Kashigaon in Thane district. From its connectivity to the intricate maze of Mumbai to the unique infrastructure, Mumbai Metro-9 stands out for a number of reasons. MUMBAI METRO-9 It is an extension of Line 7 from Andheri to CSMIA and Dahisar to Mira Bhayander and is 13.581 km long (11.386 km elevated and 2.195km underground) with 10 stations. It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) and Metro Line 7(Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E)). Metro Line-9 is part of Mumbai's pioneering double-decker infrastructure project, where both Metro and vehicular flyovers share a common viaduct. THE CONNECTIVITY HOW IT WILL HELP The Kashigaon-Dahisar metro line will give Thane commuters an easy and smooth commute alternative to overcrowded local trains and the infamous Mumbai traffic, especially during peak hours. The implementation of this corridor is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, especially near Dahisar Toll Naka Lower vehicular emissions and promote eco-friendly commuting Introduce energy-efficient systems like regenerative braking Employ green construction practices with reduced environmental impact. For the first time in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, a double-decker bridge has been built in this section, where both the flyover and the metro line will be seen on the parallel structure," said CM Devendra Fadnavis during the test run last week. 'The section of Metro Line 9 from Kashigaon to Dahisar (East) will be opened to the public after the technical testing is completed. The metro is a very good option for reducing traffic on the Western Express Highway and making travel easier for Mumbaikars. We are planning to provide smooth and direct connectivity from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ground to Bandra along the Western Express Highway, and work is underway in different phases to achieve this," he said. 'Soon, people will be able to travel by metro all the way to Virar. As more metro lines get connected, passengers will get a complete end-to-end travel solution. Planning is also underway to connect the metro with the bullet train station that is being developed at Vadhavan," the CM said. First Published:

CM Devendra Fadnavis flags off trial run of Mumbai Metro Line 9 from Dahisar to Kashigaon

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Wednesday flagged off the trial run and technical inspection of Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Line 9 between Dahisar East and Kashigaon. This Red Line 9 corridor is a part of a larger initiative to connect Mira-Bhayander with the rest of Mumbai through efficient Metro connectivity. Along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Fadnavis also inspected the newly built elevated road. The 13.5-kilometre Metro Line 9 is being constructed in two phases by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the Phase 1 section covers four stations — Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon. 'The technical testing of the Maha Mumbai Metro Line 9 was conducted today. This line will be extremely helpful for the people of Mira-Bhayandar as well as those who go to Mumbai for work. Our goal is to provide smooth connectivity throughout the region,' said Fadnavis after the inspection. He also pointed out that it was a 'first-of-its-kind' innovation within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). 'For the first time in the MMR, a double-decker bridge has been built, carrying both Metro and a flyover on one pillar. This structural innovation will cut down traffic congestion greatly,' he added. Red Line 9 is an extension of Metro Line 7 — Andheri East to Dahisar East — and once operational, will be connected with Metro Line 2A — Dahisar to D N Nagar, thus providing a direct Metro connectivity from Mira-Bhayandar to Andheri. The second phase will connect the service to Bhayandar West, ending at the Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium station. According to MMRDA officials, trial runs will continue in the weeks ahead with a detailed technical review to be carried out over this period before opening the phase for the public. Safety systems, signalling, performance of rolling stocks, and other operational parameters would be tested intensively before making the route operational. Even though the line was originally to be commissioned fully by October 2024, construction delays have pushed the schedule. However, CM Fadnavis mentioned that the state is now accelerating work on all Metro projects. 'We are targeting finishing all the work related to Metro in MMR by 2027,' he further said.

BKC-Worli stretch of Mumbai Metro 3 becomes operational; has tunnel built under Mithi river

Mumbai, Services of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 from Bandra-Kurla Complex to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli became operational on Saturday. Earlier, Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as Aqua Line, was only operational in the suburban stretch between Aarey JVLR and BKC, which was thrown open last year. Operator Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation said 26,758 commuters travelled between Aarey JVLR and Acharya Atrey Chowk till 8 pm. 'This is significant considering that Saturdays generally witness lower ridership compared to working weekdays,' said MMRC. The ridership between Aarey JVLR and BKC stood at 15,911 and 12,766 on May 3 and April 26, respectively, it said. In the metropolis, Mumbai Metro Line-1 , Metro Line 2A and Metro Line 7 are operational in suburban areas. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday flagged off the Aqua Line's phase 2A stretch between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk and announced that the final phase of the Metro Line 3 between Worli and Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai will become operational in August. With this development, 20 km of the 33.35-km Metro 3 has become operational. A spokesperson of MMRC said the operations began at 6.30 am, and the first train departed from Worli Naka station, while another train departed from JVLR Aarey at the same time. He said the services will be operational from 6.30 am to 10.30 pm, except on Sunday, when trains will run from 8.30 am to 10.30 pm. One of the passengers who travelled in the morning from Shitaladevi station to Siddhivinayak Temple station posted on social media that there were hardly any commuters, as most people were unaware of the extended operations. Phase 2A is 9.77 km long and comprises a tunnel built through the 'rockbed' underneath the Mithi River, officials said. It has six stations, including Dharavi, Shitaladevi, Dadar West, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. The underground corridor will provide metro connectivity to offices in the Worli, Lower Parel, and Prabhadevi areas from BKC, the biggest business hub in the city. It will also ease the commute to Siddhivinayak and Shitaladevi temples, Mahim Dargah, and recreational places such as Shivaji Park and Ravindra Natya Mandir. As per the MMRC, the minimum fare will be ₹10, and the maximum fare will be ₹40 for the journey in phase 2A of the underground corridor. For the travel between JVRL Aarey and Acharya Atre Chowk, passengers will have to shell out ₹60. MMRC has planned 244 services on the corridor with eight Metro trains, and the travel time between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk will be 15-20 minutes, while that between JVRL Aarey and Acharya Atre Chowk will be 36 minutes. The headway between two trains will be 6 minutes and 20 seconds.
