Fatima Sana Shaikh Thinks Female Leads Are ‘Stereotypical'

Fatima Sana Shaikh shared that after Dangal she was offered many empowering roles, but she did not want to portray aggressive women who hate men. Fatima Sana Shaikh is known for portraying daring shades of women on screen. Right from her debut film, Dangal, the actress has been capturing the hearts of audiences with her thought-provoking roles, impressive acting skills, and powerful on-screen presence. The actress has had two remarkable releases so far this year – Metro… In Dino and Aap Jaisa Koi, in both of the films, Fatima Sana Shaikh portrayed unapologetically fearless women characters with a natural soft side. During an interview with Filmfare, Fatima opened up about her roles and her decision to play Madhu Bose in Aap Jaisa Koi, throwing light on her drive that boosts reinvention. Fatima Sana Shaikh Talks About Stereotyping Female Characters in Films During the Filmfare interview, the actress opened up about stereotyping female roles in Bollywood. Fatima shared that after Dangal, she was offered many empowering roles, but she did not want to portray aggressive women who hate men, because for her it is not the right portrayal of empowering women. 'When people think of strong women, they think of aggressive women. I don't know why! Just because we know what we want and we voice for equality does not mean we will fight with men, or we want to fight, or we want to smoke a cigarette. The idea is very stereotypical. We don't want to do that. There is so much more; it's about how we think and how we hold a space as women. We don't see that in films," she shared. Fatima further talked about carefully picking roles to go beyond the audience's predictions. 'I don't need to do a film that's dependent on a topic or is issue-related. It's okay if I'm doing a comedy film, but we don't see women in comedy films. That's so rare and sad, because we also have good comic timing," she stated, explaining that women-led films are few and far between in the commercial sense. Fatima Sana Shaikh Opens Up about Staying Relevant Fatima was seen stressing the need to reinvent herself as an actress and explained how times have changed since she first started. 'When I started it all, it was different, and now it is very different. Your relevance keeps changing," she shared. 'I'm excited today, and tomorrow I won't be. Two films have come along; it could be my luck. People are interested in me again. But, that's the game," Fatima added. Fatima Sana Shaikh's Upcoming Projects Fatima Sana Shaikh is all set for her upcoming film Gustaakh Ishq, where she will be seen alongside Vijay Varma. Following this, she also has an untitled project with Roy Kapoor Films and another untitled courtroom drama. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Netflix's Aap Jaisa Koi actress reveals 'Dangal's gave her financial & emotional stability': 'It doesn't matter if you earn in crores or hundreds if...'

Fatima Sana Shaikh, who enjoyed back-to-back releases and success with Metro…In Dino and Netflix's Aap Jaisa Koi in July, revealed that the humongous success of Dangal gave 'her emotional and financial stability'. 'I was lucky that I got Dangal, uske wajah se meri Duniya khulgayi. Financial stability aagayi, emotional aagayi. Especially, I have realised ke agar financial stability hoti hai na, emotional stability aane lagti hai. Woh bahol corelated hai, relationships bhi thode mend hojate hai. Woh matter nahi aap karodo mein karodo mein kamao ya 100 rupaye mein kamao, but if it fits world aur aapki jitni bhi zarooratein hai woh fulfil hojati hai usse na aapko bahot shanti aur security milti hai. So that happened with Dangal. (Dangal gave me financial and emotional stability. I have realised that if you are financially stable, you also become emotionally stable. It doesn't matter if you are earning in crores or hundreds as long as it fits your world and fulfils your needs. This gives you peace and security), Fatima told while talking to journalist Subhojit Ghosh. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In a recent interaction with Firstpost, the actress spoke about gender pay gap and said, 'There are women who are asking for what they deserve, and that is commendable because to voice it and to even receive that was like a dream. And, you know, these are the women like Deepika Padukone who are paving paths for us so that tomorrow, when we are in that position, we won't obviously think twice to get our due. But, you know, box office is a clear correlation to how much money you're making. So, if there is no box office return, then producers are not going to give that money to you. And, unfortunately, all of this depends upon the audience. If the audience is going to take in and appreciate and accept the film led by women, and make it work and make it successful. Only then will there be a change. But, I'll go too far. So, when the audience accepts them, they go and watch their films. For example, if there is a new actor and if there is a Kareena Kapoor, she will get paid more than her newcomer hero. It's not only in the film industry. It happens even in the sports world. They will always see the reproductive age of the woman. It's time for women to decide even if she's willing to work during that time or not that choice is entirely hers.'
