KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Freshman Luke Costello had two home runs and five RBIs, Logan Lunceford got two big outs in the ninth inning and Wake Forest held off a late rally by Miami (Ohio) for a 14-13 victory on Saturday in the Knoxville Regional. Wake Forest (37-21) will play either No. 14 national seed Tennessee or Cincinnati in an elimination game on Sunday. The first regional appearance for Miami (35-23) since 2005 came to an end. Advertisement Joe Ariola came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh and walked two as Miami got within 13-9. Haiden Leffew entered and got out of the inning with a strikeout. Wake Forest DH Kade Lewis lined a shot off the left-field wall to score Marek Houston from first to extend the lead to 14-9 in the eighth. It was Lewis' 25th multi-hit game of the season. Leffew allowed two quick runs in the ninth before Lunceford entered with the bases loaded. Blake Buzzeo singled on the first pitch and the left fielder misplayed it allowing two to score. Lunceford got a pop up and a strikeout to end it for his first save of the season. (AP) — Reese Chapman had three RBIs, including a solo home run, Liam Doyle recorded 11 strikeouts and top-seeded Tennessee beat Miami (Ohio) 9-2 on Friday night at the Knoxville Regional. No. 14 national seed and regional host Tennessee (44-16) plays third-seeded Cincinnati on Saturday. No. 4 seed Miami (35-22) takes on Wake Forest in a loser-out game. Doyle (10-3) gave up a run on four hits with three walks over 6 2/3 innings. Dean Curley drew a bases-loaded walk in the third inning and Chapman followed with a sacrifice fly that drove in Andrew Fisher to make it 3-1. Fisher, Hunter Ensley and Dalton Bargo hit back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to spark a five-run fourth before Cannon Peebles led off the fifth with a double and scored on a single by Gavin Kilen to make it 9-1. Chapman hit a solo shot to open the scoring in the second but Dillon Baker led off the third with a double and scored on a two-out double by David Novak to make it 1-1. Evan Appelwick capped the scoring with a lead-off homer in the ninth. Cooper Katskee (11-2) gave up seven runs — five earned — on six hits with four walks over 3 1/3 innings. ___ AP college sports:

May 7 - Austin Peay confirmed the death of senior defensive back William Hardrick. He was 22. Hardrick passed away Tuesday but no cause of death or other details were immediately available. "William Hardrick was an exceptional young man, and our team is heartbroken by his loss," head coach Jeff Faris said in a news release. "He made everyone around him better and has made a real impact both on and off the field. We lift up the Hardrick family in prayer as we grieve this tragic loss with them." Hardrick was preparing for his first season with the Governors after playing at Mississippi State from 2021-22 and Miami (Ohio) from 2023-24. "We are truly saddened by the passing of William Hardrick, a new member of our football program and the Austin Peay family," said APSU athletic director Gerald Harrison. "All of our thoughts and prayers are with the Hardrick family today. We will do everything we can to support his friends, family and teammates at this time." Hardrick appeared in one game at Mississippi State and 18 games at Miami (Ohio). In 11 games last season, he recorded 26 tackles and four passes defensed. "Will brought a light to every room he walked into," the Miami (Ohio) football program posted Wednesday on X. "Our thoughts are with his family."

(AP) — Austin Peay transfer defensive back William Hardrick, who previously played for Mississippi State and Miami (Ohio), has died, the university announced Wednesday. The university said the 22-year-old Hardrick died Tuesday but did not provide details regarding a cause or location. Hardrick 'was an exceptional young man, and our team is heartbroken by his loss,' Austin Peay coach Jeff Faris said. 'He made everyone around him better and has made a real impact both on and off the field. We lift up the Hardrick family in prayer as we grieve this tragic loss with them.' Hardrick was from Adamsville, Alabama, where he was a standout receiver and defensive back in high school. Hardrick spent two seasons with Mississippi State, where he played in one game as a freshman in 2021. He transferred in 2023 to Miami.
