Texas A&M freshman TE is already turning heads this preseason

Texas A&M's 2025 tight end rotation is much deeper compared to last season, and while junior Theo Melin Öhrström is the only returning player from the 2024 rotation, transfers Micah Riley, Nate Boerkircher, and Amari Niblack bring a blend of blocking and receiving that will help protect and increase starting quarterback Marcel Reed's production through the air. During the first two preseason practices this week, Niblack has stood out due to his speed and quickness in the seam. Still, freshman tight end Kiotti Armstrong, who is currently listed at 6'6" and 265 pounds, has become one of the more intriguing players on the roster and could be in line to see the field as soon as the 2025 season opener vs. UTSA. On Thursday, during basic blocking drills, Armstrong's strength and defensive line-like build were on full display. If his high school film tells us anything, the Jasper, Texas native is already an above-average receiver who can gain chunk yards after the catch, which is impressive given his size. During his time at Jasper HS, Armstrong reeled in 68 receptions for 1,026 yards and 18 touchdowns, including 683 yards and seven touchdowns during his 2024 senior season. Looking back at Texas A&M's most recent success with tight ends in the passing game, it last came during the 2021 season when Jalen Wydermeyer led the Aggies with 515 yards, while the memorable 2018 season featured one-year Kansas transfer TE Jace Sterberger netting a team-high 832 yards and 10 touchdowns. Armstrong is two inches taller than both players while possessing an NFL-level build. "The sky is the limit" is highly overused, but in Armstrong's case, coach Mike Elko and OC Collin Klein may have found the next Jace Sternberger, but he'll be with the program for more than one season.
