PSHC: Blackrock 1-20 Kanturk 0-18: A Michael O'Halloran goal early into the second half proved crucial as Blackrock defeated Kanturk by five points in the Round 1 clash at Mallow on Saturday evening. Full report here. Midleton 0-24 Newtownshandrum 0-19: Midleton lined out in an all-black strip for their county championship opener on Saturday evening. Carrigtwohill 4-14 Fermoy 0-17: Carrigtwohill did the heavy lifting in the second quarter and spent the second half fending off a physical Fermoy fightback to pocket the points on opening night in Rathcormac. Killeagh 2-26 Na Piarsaigh 2-24: Two late frees, a sublime solo goal and one pinpoint pass from Barry Walsh proved decisive as Killeagh held their nerve to edge a 54-score shootout with Na Piarsaigh in Midleton. Full report here. Blarney 1-15 Bride Rovers 1-22: Bride Rovers recorded a deserved win over Blarney in Group 3 of the Co-op Superstores Cork SAHC in Pairc Uí Rinn on Sunday afternoon. Blarney had gotten the better of Rovers in the semi-final of this competition the past two seasons, but this day belonged to the Rathcormac/Bartlemy outfit. Full report here. Courcey Rovers 1-22 Watergrasshill 3-18: Watergrasshill followed last year's county, Munster and All-Ireland intermediate glory with a positive start in the Co-op SuperStores SAHC, finishing well to beat Courcey Rovers at Páirc Uí Rinn. Full report here. PIHC: Ballymartle 1-17 Eire Og 2-12: Ballymartle edged out Éire Óg in a terrific PIHC battle at Ballinshassig on Saturday night. Ryan Deasy landed some magnificent frees throughout, while their goalkeeper Darren McCarthy made a number of very important saves. Real report here. Lisgoold 1-18 Valley Rovers 2-18: Valley Rovers got off to a winning start after a tight affair against Lisgoold that went down to the wire. Debutants at this level Lisgoold were in contention throughout but the exeperience of Valley Rovers saw them over the line. Valley Rovers hit two goals through Rory O'Sullivan and Shane Ryan with Diarmuid Healy hitting three points. James O'Driscoll hit 1-3 with Liam O'Shea hitting 0-6 for Lisgoold in a good first outing and shown they were not out of the depth at this level. Dungourney 3-21 Mallow 1-19: Dungourney got their championship campaign off to a winning start at Castletownroche on Sunday. In a highly entertaining game it took a second-half goal from Shane Hegarty, along with a simply superb double save from Paul Flynn, to ensure they came out on top. Full report here. Carrigaline 1-19 Cloyne 3-16: A huge shock as last year's finalists Carrigaline going down to Cloyne at sun-drenched Cobh on Sunday. There is little doubt Carrigaline were wasteful in front of goal in the first half but take nothing away from Cloyne they battled as if their lives depended on it and were worthy winners. Full report here. IAHC: Sarsfields 3-22 Youghal 0-15: Sarsfields laid down a marker with a 3-22 to 0-15 win over Youghal in Cloyne on Saturday. Daniel Kearney helped himself to 0-7 for Sars, Cork U20 star Barry O'Flynn shot 0-8 while Rory O'Brien bagged two goals and Darragh Long clipped 1-2. Brett Malone was Youghal's top scorer with 0-9 while Ruairi McMahon hit 0-3 from wing-back. Bandon 3-18 Russell Rovers 0-19: Bandon got their campaign in the Co-op Superstores Cork IAHC off to the perfect start with a 3-19 to 0-19 win over Russell Rovers in Riverstick on Sunday. The Carbery side led by 0-9 to 0-8 at the break but two goals from Jack Cullinane and a third from Conor Calnan turned the tie in their favour after the interval. Michael Cahalane was their top scorer with 0-8 while Ciaran McCarthy hit 0-3 and Charlie Lyons had a brace of points. Josh Beausang was Russell Rovers main man with 0-12 while Cormac Aherne clipped 0-2. Aghabullogue 2-21 Blackrock 1-13: Aghabullogue joined Sars on two points when they beat Blackrock by 2-21 to 1-13 in Ballincollig on Sunday. Matthew Bradely led the way for the Muskerry men with 0-7, James Lane hit the Rockies for 1-3, Luke Casey clipped 1-2 while John Corkery and Shane Tarrant both scored 0-3. Aghada 1-22 Kildorrery 2-19: Aghada and Kildorrery played out an incredible 1-22 to 2-19 draw in Caherlag on Sunday. Will Leahy scored 0-14 for Aghada, with 0-4 coming from play, Fionn O'Connor hit 1-2 while Jamie O'Hanlon had a brace of points. Peter O'Brien scored 0-6 for Kildorrery while Kieran Hurley and James Keating scored the all-important goals. Aghada will play Erin's Own in the next round, with Ballygiblin facing off against Kildorrery. Mayfield 0-16 Midleton 0-22: Midleton joined Bandon on top of Group 1 with a 0-22 to 0-16 win over Mayfield in Riverstown. Aaron Mulcahy did most of the damage for Midleton as he finished with 0-13, Cathal Beausang hit 0-3 while Paul Connaughton and Kian Farmer both had 0-2 for the Magpies. Nicky Kelly hit 0-9 for Mayfield, Shane O'Donovan scored 0-4 while Calvin O'Donovan also got on the scoresheet. Bandon will play Midleton in a fortnight with Mayfield taking on Russell Rovers. PJHC: Kilbrittain 0-22 Ballyroe 1-15: Kilbrittain and Barryroe opened the championship on Friday evening in Clonakilty and it was Kilbrittain who took the spoils with a 0-22 to 1-15 victory. Mark Hickey hit 0-6 from frees for Kilbrittain, Bertie Butler and Josh O'Donovan both pilfered 0-4 while Luke Griffin and Conor Hogan both registered a brace of points. Olan O'Donovan was Barryroe's main scoring threat as he hit 1-6, Ryan O'Donovan clipped 0-3 and Tomás Ó Buachalla scored 0-2. Argideen Rangers 0-18 Tracton 1-13: Argideen Rangers beat Tracton by 0-18 to 1-13 in Bandon on Saturday. Charlie Twomey had 0-6 from frees for Argideen, John Michael O'Callaghan claimed 0-5 with 0-3 coming from play while Cathal O'Donovan helped himself to 0-3. Fergal Walsh was in superb form at midfield for Argideen, finishing with 0-2 while for Tracton, Ronan Walsh was unerring from frees and also buried a penalty. Tracton will face their divisional neighbours, Ballygarvan in a fortnight, while Argideen will take on Milford. Ballygarvan 1-23 Milford 0-20: Ballygarvan, got their campaign up and running with a 1-23 to 0-20 win over Milford in Killavullen. Michael Cussen led the way for Ballygarvan as he hit 1-3 while Cillian O'Regan and Kevin Lyons both clipped 0-3. Piaras O'Halloran, Stephen Fenton and Mark Kennefick all had a brace of points for the Carrigdhoun men in a real team performance. Cloughduv 3-20 Nemo Rangers 0-17: Kilbrittain will play Cloughduv in Round 2 and the Muskerry side will be in fine fettle as a result of their 3-20 to 0-17 win over Nemo Rangers in Ballyanley on Sunday. A Sean O'Leary goal gave Cloughduv a 1-8 to 0-10 lead as Conor Horgan and Artslom Petrov impressed for Nemo though the city side would live to regret their nine wides. Goals from Ciarán Canty and Aidan Murphy after half time tipped the game in Cloughduv's favour as O'Leary finished with 1-6 while Mark Verling and Eoin McNabola both impressed with Shane Horgan accounting for most of Nemo's scores from placed balls. Nemo will face Barryroe in Round 2. Glen Rovers 1-14 St Catherines 0-15: Glen Rovers made it a perfect weekend from their perspective by defeating St Catherine's by 1-14 to 0-15 in Group 1 of the Co-op Superstores Cork PJHC in Lisgoold on Sunday. In a tight encounter, Shane Busteed's goal midway through the opening half proved to be the decisive score. Evan Murphy was also in fine form for the Glen, as he hit 0-8 with 0-6 coming from placed balls while Adam O'Sullivan, Mark Dooley and Donagh Coughlan all played their part in the victory too. St Catherine's have lost the previous two finals, but they have plenty to build on from this performance before playing Meelin in their second game. Rory Galvin hit 0-6 for them, while Sean O'Donoghue clipped 0-2 and Brian Mulcahy also got on the scoresheet. Meelin 3-12 St Finbarrs 1-32: St Finbarr's joined the Glen on two points as a result of their 1-32 to 3-12 win over Meelin in Ballygiblin. Caolán O'Connor hit 0-6 for the Barrs, Conor McCarthy helped himself to 1-3 while Ricky Barrett and Colm Keane both hit 0-5. They will play the Glen in two weeks' time. Jimmy McAuliffe was Meelin's main man as he hit 2-2, Jack Curtin claimed 1-2 while John Forrest scored 0-4.

O'Halloran goal proves key as Rockies keep Kanturk at arm's length
Cork Premier SHC: Blackrock 1-20 Kanturk 0-18 A Michael O'Halloran goal early into the second half proved crucial as Blackrock defeated Kanturk by five points in the Co-Op SuperStores Premier SHC Group 3 Round 1 clash at Mallow on Saturday evening. The outcome of this game was not known until very late into the second half in what was an enjoyable affair. The Rockies only led by three points at half-time and could never shake off their stubborn opposition, it was a display that they won't be too pleased with, but a win is a win. O'Halloran's goal early into the second 30 minutes was a vital score that gave the Rockies the platform to keep Kanturk at arm's length. To be fair, Kanturk battled gamely and if it wasn't for some poor shooting, it could have been closer. They weren't helped with a number of crucial absentees including Ryan and Colin Walsh. They did play the closing stages with 14 players after a Tommy Walsh red card. In a repeat of last year's quarter-final, which Blackrock won by eight points, this latest one took some time to settle given difficult wind conditions. Cork senior hurler Alan Connolly did give the Rockies an early lead with a point over the shoulder, but Rory Sheahan (free) and a Brian O'Sullivan effort was a result of a positive Kanturk opening, 0-2 to 0-1 after six minutes. Alan O'Callaghan and John Cashman helped Blackrock gain a foothold in defence, as they put together five unanswered white flags. Tadhg Deasy hit two long range efforts and it was 0-6 to 0-2 after 10 minutes. The sides traded points before Kanturk had their own period of dominance. With Brian O'Sullivan busy around midfield and Kanturk now after getting a handle on Blackrock's sweeper, the Duhallow team hit three unanswered points, Sheahan with two frees and an Ian Walsh effort leaving them a point behind. Jamie Harrington's outfit were playing within themselves even if Kanturk were giving as good as they got. Blackrock did land three of the next four points with Alan Connolly tapping over two frees, but he was well marked by Cork senior footballer Tommy Walsh. The score was 0-10 to 0-7 after 25 minutes. O'Sullivan struck over a fantastic point for Kanturk, but Blackrock were getting their scores easier and got two of the last three white flags of the half to lead 0-12 to 0-9 at half-time. It was a fast start to the new half with four shots four scores three minutes into the second half, shared evenly, 0-14 to 0-11. A crucial score did come after 35 minutes when Michael O'Halloran finished brilliantly into the top corner of the Kanturk net after a neat team move. O'Sullivan did point for Kanturk, but their opposition were definitely turning the screw. Kevin O'Keeffe and a long range free from goalkeeper Gavin Connolly pushed their team 1-16 to 0-12 clear. An O'Sullivan free was much needed for Kanturk followed by a Sheahan free, but they required a goal that didn't look like coming. The teams did trade white flags, as Blackrock led 1-17 to 0-15 with 13 minutes remaining. The game tipped away as the sides kept cancelling each other out, which suited the Rockies as they remained in control. They led 1-19 to 0-17 after 55 minutes. A Robbie Cotter point was an important one to give Blackrock that small bit more of a breathing space before Walsh was given a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident four minutes from time. A Sheahan free did reduce the deficit down to five points late on for Kanturk, but they had run out of time despite Paul Walsh's best attempts to get a goal in the dying embers. The Rockies face St Finbarr's in their next group game in a fortnight in what should be a tasty one. Kanturk will have to regroup as they take on Douglas.
