Sainsbury's urges customers to complete Nectar card action within two weeks

Sainsbury's is calling on its customers to take a simple step to ensure they don't miss out on collecting points. The supermarket giant has reassured shoppers that if they forget their loyalty card, they can still claim Nectar points. They can do this by presenting proof of purchase for in-store items within a fortnight of buying them. For those who shop online, it's possible to retroactively add points by linking the transaction to their loyalty card. This can be done within 14 days of the purchase. The points are expected to show up on the Nectar card within a month. The tip comes after Sainsbury's engaged with a customer on X, previously Twitter, on Tuesday (April 22). The customer, Michael Reaney, reached out to the retailer. He wrote: "@sainsburys I've just purchased petrol from your West Hove petrol station and didn't have my Nectar card on me. "Is there any way to get the points on my card retrospectively? Got the receipt if that helps?" Sainsbury's promptly replied: "Hi Michael, thanks for getting in touch. "Just pop back into the store with your card and receipt, and our colleagues will sort that out for you." Karen, representing Sainsbury's, added: "You have 14 days to get the points added." This lesser-known trick could be a boon for many looking to accumulate Nectar points but uncertain if they can do so after their shopping is done, reports Birmingham Live . As per the supermarket giant, these Nectar points can be redeemed on a wide range of items, from your weekly groceries to beverages at Café Nero. Sainsbury's website also provides its customers with the option to convert their accumulated shop points into British Airways vouchers. Moreover, flashing the Nectar card at the checkout enables members to avail of various discounts and special offers. It comes after Sainsbury's ramped up its price match war with Aldi in a bid to save shoppers money. Adding over 100 new items, it is now said to be offering "more than any other retailer." The supermarket's price match scheme with its budget German rival first launched in 2021. It followed numerous other retailers that made the same decision in an attempt to attract customers with lower prices. As of Wednesday, April 23, the initiative with Sainsbury's is said to offer 800 popular and staple products, making it "the biggest ever Aldi price match" on the market. For Aldi's part, the German chain's Còmhla Scottish Gin has recently scooped the highly coveted 'Gold' and 'Best in the Country' awards at the prestigious World Drink Awards 2025. In the 2025 competition, Aldi's Còmhla Scottish Gin was lauded for its "aromatic nose, and notably fresh profile", thanks to a blend of botanicals such as dandelion and bog myrtle. Costing just £19.99 for a 70cl bottle, it's notably budget -friendly compared to other brands.
