Report Reveals Clippers are Planning to Use Mid-Level Exception On a Backup Center and Backup Guard

Report Reveals Clippers are Planning to Use Mid-Level Exception On a Backup Center and Backup Guard originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Clippers have a lot they need to address this offseason if they're going to take another run at trying to join the elite of the Western Conference next season. Advertisement With limited cap space and just a couple of tradable picks and a few movable players, they may need to get creative to ensure they get their roster where it needs to be. A recent report has revealed one way they're planning to make sure they are able to fill every one of their needs this offseason. Los Angeles Clippers logoKirby Lee-Imagn Images According to Hoops Hype's Michael Scotto, the Clippers are planning to use the non-tax payer mid-level exception to land both a backup center and backup point guard. Scotto also mentioned that the Clippers are specifically looking for a center who can protect the rim. With the MLE being worth just $14.1 million, that doesn't give them many options who fit that description, but there are some out there. Advertisement Steven Adams is a name that has come up previously. Andre Drummond could take on that role if he turns down his player option with the 76ers. Kevon Looney could also be of interest if he leaves Golden State for the first time in his career. One of the big problems the Clippers faced during the 2024-25 season was a lack of depth. They had no size in the frontcourt behind Ivica Zubac and didn't have a ton to work with in the backcourt when James Harden and Norman Powell came off the floor. If the Clippers can address both of these needs with the MLE, it frees them up to use their remaining assets to try and get themselves some more talent in the starting lineup. Advertisement That would be a best-case scenario for them as they try to keep up in a tough West. 2025 G League Elite Camp: Malique Lewis headlines list of participants

2025 G League Elite Camp: Malique Lewis headlines list of participants Trinidadian forward Malique Lewis is among the players invited to the 2025 NBA G League Elite Camp on May 9-10 in Chicago, Illinois, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Lewis averaged 6.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and one assist on 42.6% shooting from the field with the South East Melbourne Phoenix in the National Basketball League. He scored in double figures 11 times, including a season-high 15 points, six rebounds and three assists on Nov. 15. The 6-foot-8 standout signed with the Phoenix in July as part of the Next Stars program, a plan introduced by the NBL to give prospects a path to play professionally. He was among several prospects who played in the NBL, joining the likes of Izan Almansa, Alex Toohey and Rocco Zikarsky. The prospects invited to the G League Elite Camp were voted on by team executives. The list of players typically indicates those with the highest odds of being selected or signed as undrafted free agents with teams after the NBA draft on June 25-26. The event will feature 5-on-5 games, strength and agility testing, shooting drills, measurements and other related on-court exercises. Prospects will be able to improve their draft stock in a competitive environment against their peers. The top players from the G League Elite Camp will be invited to participate in the draft combine on May 11-18. The event has helped several players advance to the combine and eventually make it to the NBA, including Jose Alvarado, Enrique Freeman and Terance Mann.

Report: Nets have 'beautiful' situation heading into the offseason

Report: Nets have 'beautiful' situation heading into the offseason The Brooklyn Nets came into this season hoping to put themselves in the best position to get the first overall pick in the top-heavy 2025 NBA Draft. While Brooklyn did not do the best job of getting to that goal given how many games the franchise won in the beginning of the season, their rebuild with the big picture in mind is something that is considered "beautiful." NetsDaily recently reported that a source indicated that "as one NBA source has told NetsDaily, 'the beauty of the Nets situation is that they can move in any direction.'" This reporting comes off the backdrop of NetsDaily pointing out that the Nets have the most tradeable first-round picks in the league at this point of the season, according to data from RealGM. While many have made the point that the Nets did not take advantage of getting their own pick back for this season given that Brooklyn's pick heading into Tuesday's slate of games is sixth, putting them behind teams like the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans. More to the point, the Nets have the same record as the Philadelphia 76ers, a team that began the season looking to be a title contender in the Eastern Conference before shutting down superstar center Joel Embiid. "According to a RealGM survey published Friday, Brooklyn currently has access to 10 first rounders that can be traded, nearly twice as many as the next team, the Utah Jazz, who have six," NetsDaily wrote. "They also have than two, three and even four times more than every other NBA team besides the Jazz." As NetsDaily points out, the Nets have more draft capital that they can trade than any other team, something that could prove pivotal if Brooklyn decided to go after a player that would require multiple first-round picks to acquire. HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported on Monday that "the availability of Hornets guard LaMelo Ball is one of the stars several executives who spoke with HoopsHype will be monitoring on the trade market this summer," when discussing players that could be available this offseason. Ball is already in the middle of a five-year, $203.85 million contract with the Hornets, but if Charlotte decides to go elsewhere, Brooklyn could use their cap space to absorb his contract. While talking about Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young, Scotto wrote that "The question on the mind of executives around the league is whether or not Atlanta will commit a long-term extension to Young this summer or look to move him before having to pay him more money." Brooklyn's rebuild is still in the early stages so time will tell if they decide to go all-in on a short rebuild or remain patient enough to build the team through the Draft.

Report: Teams interested in Guerschon Yabusele, other Sixers in trades

Report: Teams interested in Guerschon Yabusele, other Sixers in trades The 2024-25 season ahs not gone as planned for the Philadelphia 76ers as it has been a perfect storm of everything that could go wrong has. They are sitting at 19-27 and outside of the play-in tournament in the Eastern Conference as the Feb. 6 trade deadline rapidly approaches. The Sixers still believe they are title contenders no matter what seed they get entering the playoffs--if they do get in--but with that being said, mindsets can always change. As the deadline approaches, teams are beginning to make calls to gauge the availability of some players including Guerschon Yabusele. Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype: Amid a frustrating season that began with championship aspirations has the Philadelphia 76ers currently on the outside of the Play-In Tournament due to a bevy of injuries. In light of Philadelphia's struggles, teams across the league have reached out to see if the 76ers would consider selling off players such as Caleb Martin, Kelly Oubre Jr., Guerschon Yabusele, Andre Drummond, and Eric Gordon, league sources told HoopsHype. The Sixers have won four in a row following a frustrating 7-game losing skid so one has to wonder what direction the franchise will go. If the losing streak had continued, one would assume that they would be sellers, but now that they have won four in a row and all of the injured players are expected to return soon, there is a school of thought that maybe they should instead buy. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next week as the Sixers look to make a move.
