GMA's 'Pepito Manaloto' warns against fake promos, FB pages using show's name

GMA Network's family sitcom "Pepito Manaloto" has issued a warning against fake promos and fake Facebook pages using the show's name. On Friday, the official and verified Facebook page of "Pepito Manaloto" advised the public to be wary of messages and texts containing links, as well as messages asking for personal information, such as one's name, address, and bank details in relation to a supposed promo by the show. "Huwag itong pansinin at huwag magbigay ng anumang detalye. Ang GMA Network at ang Pepito Manaloto production team ay hindi kailanman hihingi ng personal na impormasyon sa pamamagitan ng ganitong uri ng mensahe," the warning read. The official "Pepito Manaloto" page also shared screenshots of a fake Facebook page, named "Pepito Manaloto Surprises." "Huwag mag-like o mag-comment sa mga post na namimigay ng premyo," it warned. "Manatiling ligtas at mapanuri tayo sa mga natatanggap na mensahe." The official "Pepito Manaloto" page has asked the public to report such fake pages and stay vigilant. Also on Friday, "Pepito Manaloto" and "Bubble Gang" star Michael V. issued a warning against a fake account impersonating him. "Eto na naman tayo. Hindi ko po account or profile 'to. Scammer 'to. Baka hingan kayo ng information pati sa mga kakilala n'yo. I-block and report n'yo agad,' Bitoy said. Back in May, the Kapuso Comedy Genius also alerted the public about a deepfake video using his image and voice to mislead people into buying a product. He advised, "Maging alisto. Huwag magpa-loko." —CDC, GMA Integrated News

Michael V. to take legal action if deepfake creator continues deception

Michael V. will take legal action if the content creator behind the deepfake video that used his identity continues his deception. In Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras," Thursday, the Kapuso Comedy Genius said that he was alarmed by the video falsely showing him endorsing a product. "Alam ko kasi maraming mga netizens, maraming mga mahilig sa social media na baka maapektuhan in a negative way, baka maniwala," Bitoy said. "Titingnan natin kung ano gagawin niya kasi 'pagka persistent siya, 'pagka gumawa ulit siya ng aksyon at inulit niya, mukhang gagawan na namin ng legal action," he said. Other prominent personalities who have also recently fallen victim to deepfakes are Mel Tiangco, Vicky Morales, Mariz Umali, and Dr. Gary Sy, who filed a complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), citing the negative impact on his patients and his reputation as a doctor. "Natatakot ako na kapag may nangyari sa kanila, ay ako ang mabuntungan nila," Dr. Gary said. According to Roberto Tayag, CEO of Asia Pacific CyberQ Group, it is challenging for an unsuspecting viewer to immediately scrutinize a video they don't expect to be a deepfake. In response to the rising number of complaints from individuals deceived by fake endorsements, the Department of Information and Technology (DICT) said that they are already taking action against the spread of deepfake content. The department is in discussions with telecommunications companies and social media platforms to implement proactive measures to prevent such fake endorsements. "Ang tawag po doon sa mekanismo na iyon ay geo-blocking/geo locking. 'Yung same na mechanism po ng technology na 'yan 'yung sinasabi ko sa mga streaming platform at sa mga social media platform. Alam n'yo, kaya niyo namang i-prevent 'yan proactively eh," DICT secretary Henry Aguda said. —Carby Rose Basina/MGP, GMA Integrated News

Michael V., Paolo Contis sing about getting old, keeping up with the youth in ‘Sining' parody

Michael V. has done another song parody, but this time, Paolo Contis joined him. On Sunday's episode of 'Bubble Gang,' Bitoy and Paolo performed 'Feeling' as Tio Nilo and Jay-Cool, a spoof of 'Sining' by Dionela feat. Jay-R. The video began with a DJ hyping up a young crowd with her lively mixes until a technical problem came up, turning the crowd's attention to Tio Nilo and Jay-Cool. The song parody's lyrics talked about the challenges of getting old while trying to keep up with the younger generation. 'Ako ay titong feeling super young, hindi tumatanda, pinipilit makisali sa mga bata,' the chorus of the song goes. The lyrics also mentioned the usual struggles that come with age, including age-related vision problems, rheumatism, high blood pressure, gout, and taking supplements daily, among others. On YouTube, viewers were all praises for the latest 'Bubble Gang' parody. 'Walang kupas, sir Bitoy! Idol talaga! Previously, Michael V. did a parody of 'Raining in Manila' by Lola Amour, 'Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw' by Morisette Amon, and 'Uhaw' by Dilaw.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
