Michaella Faustino awarded Govenor General's Medal for excellence

The Maples Michaella Faustino is a teacher's dream, a student that gets her assignments completed and volunteers to mentor students who need some assistance. Michaella is the 2025 winner of Maples Collegiate's coveted and prestigious Governor General's Academic Medal. This historic award was first awarded in 1873 by the Earl of Dufferin. Since then, it has been awarded annually to the top student of a graduating high school class in Canada, in recognition of outstanding students who achieved the highest average grade of their respective high schools. Each top academic achiever is presented with a Govenor General's souvenir medal and a framed certificate at the school's annual grade 12 convocation. Michaella's stellar average from her many courses is over 95 per cent. 'I enjoy school and the process of learning,' Michaella said. 'I certainly want to thank my teachers. They encouraged, inspired and motivated me that brought out the best in me that I can have a very successful high school experience.' Michaella added, 'My study habits are just focusing on what I deem most important at the time. I like dedicating specific time for each assignment, because I feel multitasking was never that effective for me. For projects, I would schedule specific days and time, visualizing my workflow and what will best work for me.' Music (band program) has always been one of Michaella's favourite courses and activities especially at concerts, trips, musicals and special events. During her high school years, Michaella thoroughly enjoyed visual arts related courses. Mondays A weekly look at news and events that matter in your communities. 'The arts have always been my passion and the classes served as an outlet for growth, for me to improve in my skills,' she said. Not surprisingly, Michaella is enrolled to attend RRC Polytechnic to pursue studies in graphic arts and plans to join the program for game development.
