Stevie and Lindsey's ‘Buckingham Nicks' Gets Reissue After Decades Out of Print

It's been a wild week of cryptic lyrics, mysterious billboards, and Mick Fleetwood reminiscing to 'Frozen Love' on his headphones. But the wait is over: Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks will finally reissue their 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks, on Sept. 19. The first and only album from the longtime Fleetwood Mac bandmates/exes has been out of print for decades and never reissued, until now. It's been sourced from the original analog tapes and pressed in a variety of colors on vinyl. You can hear the remastered opening track, 'Crying in the Night,' here. More from Rolling Stone Cryptic Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham Billboard Teases Upcoming Project 'Fleetwood Mac' Turns 50. Mick Fleetwood Reminisced About Stevie and Lindsey Joining the Band Stevie Nicks Adds More Shows to 'Live in Concert' Tour Released on Sept. 5, 1973, the original Buckingham Nicks was recorded at Sound City in Los Angeles. When the album flopped, they were dropped by Polydor. Nicks began working at a Beverly Hills restaurant called Clementine's, until Buckingham Nicks producer Keith Olsen played the album for Mick Fleetwood — and the rest is history. '[We] knew what we had as a duo, two songwriters that sang really well together. And it was a very natural thing, from the beginning,' Nicks tells Rolling Stone contributor David Fricke in the liner notes. 'It stands up in a way you hope it would, by these two kids who were pretty young to be doing that work,' Buckingham added. Buckingham Nicks (Rhino High Fidelity) is limited to 5,000 copies, with a special edition of 2,000 copies that includes a replica of two 7-inch singles: 'Crying in the Night' b/w 'Stephanie' and 'Don't Let Me Down Again' b/w 'Races Are Run.' In addition, the album will be available digitally and on CD, as well as on vinyl from select retailers. In December 2012, Buckingham and Nicks spoke to Rolling Stone about the album and the possibility of a tour behind it, which fans have spent years hoping for. The interviews were conducted separately over the phone, about a week apart, with Nicks revealing that they'd recently recorded an outtake from the 1973 album that got 'brushed under the carpet' all those years ago. 'Next year is the 40th anniversary of Buckingham Nicks, and we're hoping next year to get the record out,' she said at the time. 'People have been waiting forever. Fleetwood Mac is totally good with us doing that. They know.' She also spoke about the possibility of a tour featuring the musicians who played on the record, including her longtime guitarist Waddy Wachtel and drummer Jim Keltner. 'We would actually go onstage and do the complete Buckingham Nicks album … It would be trippy for Lindsey and I to revisit those songs,' she said. Buckingham agreed, though he pointed out that any shows would have to wait until their next world tour with Fleetwood Mac concluded; he felt that it was 'logistically impossible' to do it between tour legs. 'Stevie, if you're serious about touring behind Buckingham Nicks, let's wait,' he said. 'I've been saying to Stevie for years that we should revisit Buckingham Nicks. I know there's a market for it … I think something elevated happens with the two of us and there's an interest in that … It's a bit of an intangible. But I've been saying that for years. To me, if you're going to do it, do it properly.' Will now be that time? One can dream. LP Track ListSide One1. 'Crying in the Night'2. 'Stephanie'3. 'Without a Leg to Stand On'4. 'Crystal'5. Celebrity Chefs Join Musicians To Speed Up Rebuild In Maui, Hawaii

Mick Fleetwood (center) of Fleetwood Mac talks with actor and cultural advisor Vene Chun at last year's music and food benefit for survivors of 2023 Maui wildfires. J. Anthony Martinez Photography As a restoration group completes a plan to rebuild historic buildings damaged by tragic wildfires two years ago in Maui, world-class chefs and professional musicians have announced benefit concerts in two cities to accelerate rebuilding in Lahaina and provide food for needy residents. The Maui Music + Food Experience kicks off Aug. 15-16 at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa and moves to Chicago Nov. 7. Performers at the Maui resort will include Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Ernie Isley of the Isley Brothers and Bernard Fowler. Six top chefs will cook, including Los Angeles-based Gabrielle Chappel, a winner of Fox's Next Level Chef TV program, and Ryan Von Smith, who finished third at the World Master Chefs Competition in China. Chef and musician Naiwi Teruya peforms in Maui at last year's music and food benefit for survivors of the 2023 Lahaina wildfire. J. Anthony Martinez Photography Last year's Maui Music + Food Experience raised $250,000 for Lahaina survivors. Maui resident Mick Fleetwood, the drummer of Fleetwood Mac, and Billy Cox of the Jimi Hendrix Experience were among the performers. Two of Fleetwood's businesses, a restaurant and a retail store, were destroyed in the wildfires. The music and food benefits this year are expected to attract 1,500 people and aim to raise another $250,000 through ticket sales, auctions and donations at the events. 'Money raised in the Maui Music + Food Experience goes to programs for Maui residents affected by the fires, including a hot meal program, and the new Maui Youth Music Program for young people in the fire-affected areas,' says Gary Grube, the founder of the Hua Momona Foundation in Lahaina. The nonprofit foundation sponsors the music and food events. Grube expects proceeds this year to help provide 10,000 hot meals and ukuleles and instruction to 50 young musicians. The wildfires on Aug. 8, 2023, were caused by high winds and dry weather, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. 'These wildfires affected approximately 1,550 parcels, 2,200 structures and were one of the deadliest U.S. wildfires in at least the past 100 years,' the EPA's website says. The Associated Press reported that 102 people were killed. 'The injuries and loss of life from these fires are staggering,' a three-author 2024 study published in the American Journal of Public Health said. 'Early recovery efforts have already unveiled anxiety, depression and survivor's guilt, which, when added to the colonial, historical and intergenerational trauma already present in this community, may result in higher substance misuse and suicidal ideation.' Besides concerns about the physical well-being of survivors and their families, 'there was estimated overall damage of $5.52 billion,' the study said. 'Historic structures such as the Old Lahaina Courthouse and Heritage Museum with its historic artifacts and the Waiola Church as the final resting ground for early royal family members no longer exist. Other landmarks, such as a 150-year-old banyan tree where many generations created memories, are still in danger.' The Lahaina Restoration Foundation, according to the The Maui News, is nearly finished with its master plan for rebuilding the Old Lahaina Courthouse, the Lahaina Prison, the Baldwin Home and the Master's Reading Room, Seamen's Hospital, Plantation House and Hale Aloha. Theo Morrison, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation's executive director, said the exterior of the buildings will look the same as they once were, but the interiors may change. Morrison, according to The Maui News, said she looks forward to the Lahina harbor being accessible to boaters and visitors in the future, because 70% of visitors participate in ocean activities. Pro golfer Collin Morikawa (center) and his wife Kat do volunteer work last year at Hua Momona Farms, which next month presents a music and food festival that aims to help Maui residents affected by 2003 wildfires. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham to rerelease their rare debut record ‘Buckingham Nicks'

After days of speculation, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham are officially back. The legendary musicians will be releasing a reissue of 'Buckingham Nicks,' their first and only studio album as a duo initially put out in 1973 before the pair joined Fleetwood Mac, according to a news release Wednesday. 'Buckingham Nicks,' which has not been available on music streaming sites and is a rare vinyl find, will be reissued on CD and digitally on September 19. The record opens with a Nicks original, 'Crying in the Night,' which is available digitally Wednesday ahead of the full album rerelease. The album will also feature an earlier version of 'Crystal,' which again appeared as a track on Fleetwood Mac's eponymous 1975 record. Nicks and Buckingham – famously on-again-off-again collaborators – have been cryptically teasing a reunion of sorts in recent days, when they both posted lyrics to their song 'Frozen Love' off 'Buckingham Nicks' on social media, sparking excitement and hope online among Fleetwood Mac faithfuls that the pair would once again reunite. 'And if you go forward…' Nicks posted on her X page last week, before Buckingham posted a call-and-answer reply a half hour later, writing, 'I'll meet you there.' Mick Fleetwood referenced the same song in a video posted to his Instagram page at the time, saying, 'It's magic then, magic now,' after listening to the track. It was 'Frozen Love' that caught Fleetwood's attention in the mid-1970s when he was looking for a new Fleetwood Mac guitarist after Bob Welch left the band, according to the release this week. Fleetwood offered Buckingham the spot, who 'insisted' that he and Nicks were a 'package deal.' And so, as history has it, the most famous iteration of Fleetwood Mac was formed once Buckingham and Nicks joined Fleetwood, Christine McVie and John McVie. Christine McVie died in 2022. Nicks and Buckingham have a lengthy personal and professional history of coming together – both musically and romantically – and breaking up, but have not yet indicated whether a reunion tour or one-off performance will follow or accompany the reissue of their album. 'Buckingham Nicks' will have ten newly remastered tracks. Physical copies of the album will be available for purchase on Friday, September 19, the same day the record will be available digitally.

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham stir up reunion hopes in Fleetwood Mac faithfuls

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have again invigorated the Fleetwood Mac fandom. (Shutterstock via CNN Newsource) Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have again invigorated the Fleetwood Mac fandom. Both music legends – who have been part of the seminal '70s-era rock band – separately posted song lyrics on their individual X pages Thursday morning, sparking a flurry of excitement and hope online that the notoriously on-again-off-again musical cohorts would rejoin forces once more. 'And if you go forward…' Nicks posted on her X page, before Buckingham posted a call-and-answer reply a half hour later, writing, 'I'll meet you there.' The lyrics complete a line from the song 'Frozen Love' from the duo's 1973 album 'Buckingham Nicks,' their sole combined studio effort before they joined Fleetwood Mac one year later. Mick Fleetwood referenced the same song on Wednesday in a video posted to his Instagram page showing him listening to the track, saying, 'It's all in the song… It's in the music that played on for so many years. It's magic then, magic now. What a thrill.' CNN has reached out to representatives for Nicks and Buckingham for comment. Nicks, Buckingham, Fleetwood and Christine McVie, who died in 2022, were part of Fleetwood Mac beginning in the 1970s, after the band was initially formed in 1967. Nicks and Buckingham have a lengthy personal and professional history of coming together – both musically and romantically – and breaking up. It's unclear what exactly it is that Nicks and Buckingham are teasing, if anything, but Nicks previously addressed the prospect of a Fleetwood Mac reunion being low after McVie's death. Referencing the last time that Fleetwood Mac toured – minus Buckingham – during their 2018-2019 An Evening with Fleetwood Mac tour, Nicks told Vulture in a 2023 interview that they all 'had a really great time and it was a huge tour' and there was a possibility they would do it again. 'But when Christine died, I felt like you can't replace her,' Nicks said, later adding that 'when she died, I figured we really can't go any further with this. There's no reason to.' Nicks recently announced she's working on a new solo album and is currently on tour. By Alli Rosenbloom, CNN
