Reserve Bank skyrockets in value as Jamie Melham claims back-to-back wins in The Goodwood
Gun colt Reserve Bank charged home to claim Saturday's $1m The Goodwood at Morphettville, notching a fourth win in Adelaide's premier sprint for astute trainer Mick Price. It saw star jockey Jamie Melham nailed another homecoming mission, settling off the pace aboard Reserve Bank ($5.50), before splitting the middle of the field at the 200m, on her way to a brilliant one-length win. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'He's a Group 1 winner now as a colt, isn't he? He's a beautiful, sound, big, strong and nice colt,' Price, who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jr, said. 'I was a bit concerned in the run where he was, I did say to her (Jamie), 'he's a nice, flow along sort of horse, he doesn't like the mixed messages and don't drag him back'. 'I'm sure he was out the back, but thankfully they ran along and he was allowed to use his big stride late and he took off. 'I can only say he's a very good colt, and he's won a Group 1.' Group 1 glory secured a hat-trick of wins for Reserve Bank, a three-year-old son of Capitalist, who has now won five from nine starts. Melham admitted that the 1200m race threatened to go pear-shaped early, but it eventually mapped out perfectly. 'Nothing went to plan, he reared out the gates, missed the start, but I just got a dream run, I got a beautiful run in the end,' Melham said. 'Giga Kick was on our outside, I thought if I drag back now and get on his backside, he's going to be too sharp. 'We just rode for luck, the gaps came, I was just a passenger, Mick has this horse absolutely flying, it was a very impressive win.' Jamie Melham celebrates winning The Goodwood aboard Reserve Bank. Picture: Makoto Kaneko The win saw Melham defend her Goodwood crown, the hoop won last year's sprint aboard Benedetta. 'I thought, I can't leave Adelaide without getting another Group 1,' she said. 'It's a very special race to win, and nothing's like winning a race back home in Adelaide, my aunty is here, aunty Jan, my family are here – it's very special.' Local galloper Sir Sway ($61) ran the race of his life to finish second for trainers Sue and Jason Jaensch, while Everest-winning sprinter Giga Kick, a $2.05 favourite, was honest first-up, hitting the line strongly out wide for third. Trent Busuttin says $1m race could be hard to resist with Caulfield debut winner Prince Tycoon
Trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have a million reasons not to spell promising youngster Prince Tycoon after his debut win at Caulfield. Prince Tycoon ($2 fav) has the scope to improve immensely on his effort in the Next Payments Handicap (1100m) in which he gave favourite backers cause for great concern on the home turn. The two-year-old wobbled around the home turn and took time to knuckle down before getting the better of the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr -trained Rosangela ($8.50). Busuttin said Prince Tycoon might have done enough to head to Queensland for the $1m Magic Millions National Classic at the Gold Coast on May 23. 'There's a million-dollar race up on the Gold Coast in about two weeks so it will be hard to argue about that,' Busuttin said. 'They're always hard to win on a Saturday and hard to win at their first time at the races.' The son of Written Tycoon recouped his $80,000 purchase price with his Caulfield success but Busuttin said Prince Tycoon's chances looked in doubt with 400m to run. 'The 200 was better than the 400, when he was hanging the whole way around the corner,' Busuttin said. 'He wasn't super sharp like he was at the trials. 'I thought, 'when you're the first one off the bridle, you're in trouble' but to his credit, he dug in. 'Race day is different to trials when they look super sharp but he got the job done, so it was a good result.' First-starter Prince Tycoon picks up win number one in race number one at Caulfield. @daniel_moor @busuttin â€' 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) May 10, 2025 Busuttin said he and Young had only had Prince Tycoon in their stable for a short period after the gelding did all his pre-training with trainer John Salanitri. Busuttin added Salanitri, who won the Group 1 Blue Diamond in 2000 with Road To Success, had his hands full with Prince Tycoon in previous preparations but deserved a large part of the credit for the chestnut's Caulfield win. 'This horse has been in and out of his system right from when he got broken in so he has only been at our stable for this preparation,' Busuttin said. John has done a massive job with him. '(Prince Tycoon) was a bit of a handful so he was gelded.' Jockey Daniel Moor had ridden Prince Tycoon at his last jumpout at Cranbourne before retaining the race day ride on the promising sprinter. Busuttin said Moor perfectly handled the inexperienced galloper. 'He does a massive amount of work at our stable with jumpouts and such so it was good to get a city win with him.' â– â– â– â– â– Patience pays off with raw Hayes filly The patient path could lead emerging Lindsay Park filly Madiyya to Queensland after her latest win at Caulfield The New Zealand-bred Madiyya has taken time to build the durability to sustain a racing preparation but the three-year-old overcame difficulty to make it two wins from three starts in the Assured Insurance Brokers Handicap (1400m). Madiyya started as the $2.05 favourite despite making a significant class rise from her maiden win at Pakenham but booked her spot on a plane to Brisbane with a decisive win over Rockin' At Midnite ($8). Co-trainer Will Hayes said a Brisbane target for three-year-old fillies appealed as a logical Queensland debut for the half-sister to Group 1 winner Grunt and Group 2 winner Zayydani. POP HER IN YOUR BLACKBOOK! ðŸ'š Madiyya was a class above winning her second race from just three starts! @lindsayparkrace â€' 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) May 10, 2025 'There's a race called the Fred Best (Classic) for three-year-old fillies at set weights over 1400(m) and then a couple of weeks later, there's a mile (race),' Hayes, who trains Madiyya with his brothers Ben and JD, said. 'She's talented and the first thing we'll be guided by is how she pulls up. 'She's been very late maturing but the writing was on the wall with that first-up run that she's ready to cop the racing because she pulled up well from it. 'She's been a filly that has been very light on the feed bin since she's come from New Zealand. 'It's just been this preparation that the penny dropped and she told us that she's ready to come to the races.' While Madiyya was a strong winner on the line, Hayes noted jockey Luke Currie's ride helped the daughter of Caulfield Guineas winner Super Seth out of the difficult spots. 'She didn't handle that (home) bend terrifically well but when she flattened out, she was too strong,' Hayes said. 'It's a quality that good fillies have. 'It was an exciting win.'

Post-race jockey reports from the 2025 The Goodwood
Reserve Bank's affinity with Adelaide continued when defeating the older horses in the $1 million Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday. Reserve Bank made it three consecutive South Australian wins when coming from back in the field, surging through the ruck in the straight to defeat local galloper Sir Sway and short favourite Giga Kick in third. "RESERVE BANK IS ON THE SCENE!" Jamie Melham has gone back-to-back in The Goodwood with Reserve Bank bounding down the middle of the track! @jamieleekah07 @MickPriceRacing — 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) May 10, 2025 Reserve Bank's win was the first time this season a three-year-old colt claimed a Group 1 win in open age company. A son of Capitalist, the win was Reserve Bank's fifth from 11 starts, taking his earnings to more than $980,000. Reserve Bank gave his trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr) their second Group 1 win of the South Australian autumn carnival. Jamie Melham was the winning rider. This is what the riders thought of their mount's performance in The Goodwood. 1st - RESERVE BANK (Jamie Melham) Nothing went to plan. He reared out the gates, missed the start, but I just got a dream run. I got a beautiful run in the end. Giga Kick was on our outside, and I thought if I drag back now and get on his backside, he's going to be too sharp. So we just rode for luck. The gaps came and I was just a passenger. Mick's (Price) got this horse absolutely flying. That was a very impressive win. 2nd - SIR SWAY (Jake Toeroek) Super run. You can't be disappointed with that. He's run out of his skin and tried his guts out and the connections are really happy. 3rd - GIGA KICK (Mark Zahra) He ran well. From the barrier we had to settle back. The jockeys in front of me got into a bit of a tussle and I had to swing wider than I wanted but he got to the line nicely. 4th - AMEENA (Dean Yendall) Had a nice run and settled really well. Just got carted off onto Anzac Highway on the turn which didn't help and lost a few lengths which didn't help being taken off her line. The straight is better out there, so I wasn't too bothered but she still finished off well. 5th - GENEROSITY (Lucy Fiore) Super run. I had a really nice run in transit, maybe not in the best part of the track late. 6th - CLIMBING STAR (Thomas Stockdale) I didn't expect her to lead. The speed horses were nowhere to be found on jumping away. She's a horse that needs to smooth, so it's not ideal leading, but that's where we were and what we had to deal with. She gave a nice shout for the run that she had. 7th - WATCHME WIN (Jason Holder) He travelled really well in the run. He had the same sort of run as when he run. He stopped pretty quick with the 56.5 (kg). He's probably better weighted a bit lower. 8th - PRAIRIE FLOWER (Will Price) She ran enormous. She was a little bit tardy away. She got in a good spot and always travelled well. She quickened up with the field but she probably just lacks that class, but she ran really honestly. 9th - SGHIRRIPA (Ben Price) Honest run. Unfortunately he made a bit of a meal of it at the start and I would have loved to have dictated as they did. They probably outsprinted him from the 600 (metres) but I thought he was good to the line. 10th - VOLCANIC EXPRESS (Justin Potter) He ran good. He settled back and probably a little more speed would have suited him better. He probably 12 months away from a good race like that, but he tried hard. 11th - STRETAN ANGEL (Lachlan Neindorf) She a tired horse. She's ready to go to the paddock and freshen up a bit. She just lacked that spark. 12th - PRESS DOWN (Rochelle Milnes (a)) They were a class above him today.

Hezashocka hunting modern-day history with back-to-back Gosford Gold Cup wins
Co-trainer Michael Kent Jr knows defending champion Hezashocka faces a vastly different challenge in Saturday's Listed $250,000 Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) as his talented stayer chases a 53-year first at Gosford. Hezashocka won the Gold Cup for the first time last year when the meeting was moved to Newcastle due to a wet forecast with the race staged over 2200m instead. In 2025 it returns to its traditional home course and distance as Hezashocka chasing a piece of modern-day history in the feature event. No horse this century has won the Gosford Gold Cup twice with Dark Diamond the last winner of the staying test back-to-back in 1971-71 has a horse. 'We really thought last year the transfer to Newcastle played into his hands being a bigger track, allowing him to gobble up the competition late in the piece and Gosford is a tighter track but he's certainly in great form,' Kent Jr, who trains with Mick Price, said. 'We are happy with the way he is going and he is arguably going as well as ever the horse. 'I thought his run in the JRA Plate was terrific running on. 'The wetter the better for him.' Hezashocka has had an identical lead-up to the Gosford Cup as he did 12 months ago after running in the Ajax Stakes, Neville Sellwood Stakes and JRA Plate in the lead-up. He was third in last year's JRA Plate before winning the Cup while finishing runner-up in the same Group 3 behind Bois D'argent this year. Hezashocka reels in Sir Lucan to win the Gosford Gold Cup 🎣 — 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) May 11, 2024 'We have gone with the exact same program and build up,' Kent Jr said. 'He is going great the big boy so it would be no surprise to win this if the race shape works out for him. 'When he won this race last year, we went to Brisbane and he won the Premier's Cup. 'It will depend on that race shape and he will certainly prefer the 2400m on a big track (Eagle Farm) next start.' Jockey Chad Schofield will get the opportunity to chase consecutive Cups on Hezashocka, which has opened as a $4.60 second elect with the bookies. A near capacity of 14 runners accepted for the Gosford Gold Cup with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott set to saddle up New Endeavour ($3.60 favourite) and Les Vampires ($4.60) while Chris Waller has accepted with five contenders, including Scarlet Oak ($15) and Medatsu ($15). The Listed $500,000 The Coast (1600m) has drawn a capacity field of 14 runners with Depth Of Character and Know Thyself sharing $4.50 favouritism for the feature event. Les Vampires ($8) was also among the acceptors for The Coast alongside stablemate Townsend ($12). The Listed $250,000 Takeover Target Stakes field was reduced to 14 runners following the early scratchings of Terra Mater and Need Some Luck.
