Metro FM hosts Mandela Day radiothon for children with cerebral palsy
In the true spirit of ubuntu and the legacy of Nelson Mandela, Metro FM is marking Mandela Day with a powerful initiative to uplift some of South Africa's most vulnerable children. On Friday, the station will host a special radiothon aimed at raising awareness and funds for Malamulele Onward, an NPO dedicated to supporting children with cerebral palsy and their families.
The campaign invites listeners around the country to stand in solidarity with families often left behind in the healthcare system — many of whom face daily struggles coping with limited resources and support for their children's complex needs. Malamulele Onward plays a crucial role in bridging that gap.
The organisation provides specialised therapy, caregiver training, emotional support and professional development for healthcare workers, particularly in under-resourced areas. Their work empowers caregivers and ensures children with cerebral palsy receive the dignity, care and opportunities they deserve.
'As we celebrate Mandela Day, we're reminded of the impact one person can have on the world. At Metro FM we're committed to amplifying that impact by partnering with Malamulele Onward to support children with cerebral palsy. We invite our listeners to join us on this journey of kindness, compassion and generosity. Together, let's make a lasting difference in the lives of these deserving children,' said Metro FM business manager Kina Nhlengethwa.
The radiothon will take over Metro FM's airwaves for the day, with a star-studded and purpose-driven line-up:
Best Mornings will kick off the day live from the SABC foyer, featuring a powerful conversation with Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of Gift of the Givers;
Breakaway with Khutso will broadcast live from Malamulele Onward, bringing listeners the team behind the work — complete with activities, interviews and a special handover segment hosted by media personality ProVerb;
Midday Linkup will keep the momentum going with on-air interviews and donation drives, celebrating those who give and inspiring more to do the same; and
The Touch Down will close off the radiothon with a final fundraising push, wrapping up a day of compassion and action.
Listeners are encouraged to tune in, donate and spread the word — because every contribution, no matter how small, brings a family closer to hope.
