Red Dead games get surprise price hike amid next-gen patch and GTA 6 pricing rumors
Source: Rockstar Games Rockstar Games has quietly hiked the digital prices of Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 in some regions, fueling gossip about the company's overall pricing strategy. With rumors circulating over a next-gen patch for RDR2 and growing expectations for GTA 6, fans are starting to wonder if Rockstar is positioning itself for even higher prices on subsequent releases. Red Dead prices surge unexpectedly across several regions The initial indication of the price increase was seen in Brazil, where Red Dead Redemption (2010) rose from 89 BRL ($16) to 149 BRL ($26), and Red Dead Redemption 2 escalated from 250 BRL to 300 BRL. This is a major development for 15 and 7-year-old games, respectively. Increases have also been noticed in the UK, where RDR2 increased from £54.99 to £59.99, and RDR1 rose from £24.99 to £29.99. Other nations, such as Chile and the Czech Republic, also experienced regional price changes. The U.S. and most other regions are still safe for the meantime, though. What's interesting is that the PC versions of RDR2 on platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, and Rockstar's launcher have kept its price low, now only $15 in some instances, its all-time lowest. Speculation mounts regarding Rockstar's pricing policy and GTA 6 Although Rockstar and parent publisher Take-Two have not offered an official statement, industry observers are attributing the changes to an overarching trend in pricing. Nintendo recently set Mario Kart World at $80 for the next Switch 2, and Xbox will do the same with certain first-party titles. Fans now worry GTA 6 may be launched at or near this $80 figure. The Red Dead price increases also come at the same time as a speculated next-gen patch for RDR2, which implies that Rockstar might be setting the stage for a high-end re-release, albeit one similar in nature to GTA V. And with RDR2 leading PlayStation download lists and hitting 74 million units sold, Rockstar might just be profiting from long-term popularity. Even though there has been no official release, Rockstar's under-the-table price adjustments are doing the rounds. Whether setting the stage for a next-gen refresh or trying waters ahead of GTA 6's eventual price release, this is one thing that is certain: the price of being a Rockstar enthusiast may be increasing. Ex-Rockstar Games dev Mike York reflects on the GTA 6 delay
Source: Rockstar Games The recent GTA 6 postponement has had a lot of people wondering why Rockstar delayed the game's release. One former Rockstar developer, Mike York , weighed in on the situation and provided a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes when this kind of delay occurs. Delays, York says, can be caused by the quality focus of the company to ensure that small but critical issues are resolved. Why GTA 6 delay would make sense based on Mike York — rockstationonx (@rockstationonx) Mike York clarified that companies, when developing games, often encounter scenarios where some game mechanics or elements fail to meet their high expectations. If a company has the proper time and budget, they would rather correct these than ship a product that would have complaints in the future. York clarified that even what appears to be small changes, such as tweaking game mechanics, would take a considerable amount of time to do appropriately. While he no longer works for Rockstar and can't comment on the present team, York feels that this sort of behind-the-scenes tinkering is normally the principal cause of delays. This way of working in favor of long-term player satisfaction over hurrying the release date is aligned with Rockstar's precedent of providing finished, quality games. The difficulties of getting a blockbuster like GTA 6 just right Shifting gameplay mechanics is not something to take lightly. It means rewriting code, testing new systems, and making sure the changes integrate smoothly into the game world. For a large, open-world game like GTA 6, this is that much more complicated. Minor adjustments become magnified and can lead to larger technical hurdles that require more resources and time. York's argument also alludes to changing customer expectations in the gaming market, where consumers not only want quantity but quality and creativity. Rockstar's readiness to hold out the game indicates that they are willing to abide by such high standards, even if this means delays. While it is disappointing to see GTA 6 postponed, Mike York's words keep things in perspective and remind us that these delays are usually motivated by the need for quality control and commitment. Taking a step back to resolve potentially critical mechanics and refine the game, Rockstar wants to deliver a product that justifies the hype and player expectations. Ultimately, patience might result in a much superior game. Former GTA 5 and RDR2 animator praises GTA 6 visuals in viral reaction
Source: Rockstar Games Rockstar's latest GTA 6 trailer has generated widespread excitement, catching the attention of even some of the studio's former developers. Mike York, a former Rockstar animator on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, posted his reaction to the new trailer on his YouTube channel, York Street Gaming. His energetic analysis of the visuals and animation has since gone viral, providing a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the game's stunning technical achievements. Ex-Rockstar animator blown away by GTA 6 graphics in popular reaction video GTAVI Trailer 2 Reaction from Former Rockstar Dev! Mike York was visibly shocked at the graphical detail of the trailer in his reaction video, saying, "Is this game really gonna look like this?" He made sure to point out that what people are witnessing is not just cinematics, but gameplay footage. "These are insane" York stated, praising Rockstar for being able to max out hardware. York, one of the developers directly engaged in character animation for GTA 5 and RDR2, pointed to the extreme detail in the trailer. From realistic lighting and textures to realistic character movement, he was impressed with how much further Rockstar has pushed environmental and animation realism in GTA 6. He mentioned that even minor details such as shadows, reflections, and street trash appeared to be hand-placed, which indicates an extreme amount of craftsmanship. Animation detail and Rockstar's visual innovation legacy York also admired the trailer's background NPCs, saying that each of them seemed to be doing something distinct, drinking, smoking, fighting, or simply existing in the world in a believable manner. This kind of ambient animation is something he says Rockstar has been perfecting for years and now seems to be at an all-new high. Though York doesn't work at Rockstar anymore, his response carries some merit in light of his first-hand experience with the development process of the studio. He was appreciative of the direction GTA 6 appears to be moving both visually and technically, terming it a "testament to Rockstar's evolution.' As excitement mounts for the 2026 launch, responses such as York's help fuel the build-up further. From someone who used to assist in creating the worlds of Red Dead and GTA, his approval is de facto certification for what might be Rockstar's most graphics-heavy title to date. Making an open-world game like GTA 6 bug-free is "a lot different" than something like The Witcher 3, says former Rockstar dev
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A former Rockstar Games animator has explained how making an open-world game like GTA 6 completely bug free is much different to achieving the same feat in The Witcher, for example. Speaking to Kiwi Talkz in a now unlisted video, former GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 animator Mike York said that the upcoming game is "unlike any other" because of the "unpredictability of the game and the unpredictability of what the player is going to do in that game." "Because of it being open world, because of it being like a human city, right?" he continued. Vice City's dense, populated urban environment is also what makes GTA 6 a very different beast to optimize than other open world games, according to York. "And the way it is, it's a lot different than, like, The Witcher open world. It's totally different. There are a lot of things that can happen that you don't really think about until some random kid in his basement tries it, you know? You really don't. When I worked on GTA 5, we played the game all day, every day for, like 8-to-10 hours a day." The Witcher 3 might boast one of the best-looking, most-detailed open worlds in any game out there, but when you stop to think about it, Grand Theft Auto's maps seem even more daunting to develop. There's the crowds of people, the busy streets, air traffic, bugs and wildlife and ecosystems under the sea - not to mention how rowdy some of the NPCs looked in that first GTA 6 trailer. It's no surprise that York expects GTA 6 to launch with only a 30fps option, then, with our best hope for a 60fps mode coming from the game's eventual PC port. GTA 5 Trevor actor wants the fan-favorite to return in GTA 6 just so Rockstar Games can kill him again.

GTA 6 Might Not Hit 60 FPS on PS5 Pro, Says Ex Rockstar Employee
A former Rockstar Games employee has cast doubt over claims that PS5 Pro enhancements will include 60 FPS support. Mike York, who was an animator at the company, reckons that the game will be targeting a locked 30 FPS on the PS5/PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Speaking to Kiwi Talkz (via GamesRadar), York said that he doubts GTA 6 will be able to pull off 60 FPS on consoles. As for the PS5 Pro, he said that the game might get close to 60 FPS if it's being boosted by something like an upscaler, but he's still doubtful about that. 'I don't think initial release will come out at 60 FPS unless it's getting those 60 FPS by an AI upscaler thing like the PlayStation is doing, unless something is coming in and helping it get those 60 FPS,' York opined. 'I don't think it'll get the 60 FPS raw out the gate on a base console. PS5, for instance. Maybe PS5 Pro, or whatever, but I still don't think so.' York isn't the first person to ask fans to temper expectations. Tech experts at Digital Foundry have previously cautioned players against getting their hopes up for GTA 6 running at 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro.
