Mikey Williams commits to Sacramento State under Mike Bibby, Shaquille O'Neal Show Caption Hide Caption Shaq talks his fame over the years and how he would have benefited from social media Shaquille O'Neal spoke to USA TODAY Sports at the Final Four about his SHAQ-A-LICIOUS XL Gummies. Sports Seriously Former NBA players Mike Bibby and Shaquille O'Neal are starting to make waves in the transfer portal. No, they are not coming back to play in college. Bibby is the new head coach at Sacramento State, and O'Neal, the Hall of Famer and a current NBA analyst for TNT, is the team's new general manager, who will not take a salary and serve the program in a volunteer capacity. After O'Neal's son, Shaqir, transferred from Florida A&M to Sacramento State, the Hornets signed former four-star recruit Mikey Williams, according to Williams played last season at Central Florida and will have three years of eligibility remaining. Williams, a 6-3 combo guard from San Diego, California, played in 18 games last season and averaged 5.1 points per game. The Hornets, who have never made the NCAA Tournament, hired Bibby on March 24 after the team went 7-25 (3-15 Big Sky) last season under interim coach Michael Czepil. Sacramento State is making moves in the NIL world as well, reportedly raising $35 million in funds to compete with the upper-echelon schools in college athletics.

Former HS phenom Mikey Williams to transfer to Sacramento State
Sacramento State continues to add star power to its college basketball program after former prep phenom Mikey Williams indicated that he has committed to play for the Hornets next season. As first reported by ESPN, Williams will transfer to Sacramento State, which has made headlines over the past month by hiring former NBA point guard Mike Bibby as the team's head coach followed by the recent hiring of Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal as the general manager. A 6-foot-3 guard, Williams was rated as a five-star prospect early in his high school career, buoyed by his viral dunks and YouTube mixtapes. As a freshman at San Ysidro High School in San Diego, Williams averaged 29.9 points and broke the school's single-game scoring record with 77 points. He was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year. Initially committed to Memphis, Williams never played a game for the Tigers and transferred to Central Florida following an April 2023 arrest for allegedly firing a gun at a car full of people at his home. The charges were reduced and Williams ultimately pleaded guilty to one felony count of making criminal threats with provisions that would allow him to avoid jail time. That charge was reduced to a misdemeanor in August after Williams was sentenced to a year of summary probation, which allowed Williams to suit up for the Knights. At UCF, Williams appeared in 18 games (five starts) and averaged 5.1 points in 14 minutes per contest. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved
