Former HS phenom Mikey Williams to transfer to Sacramento State
As first reported by ESPN, Williams will transfer to Sacramento State, which has made headlines over the past month by hiring former NBA point guard Mike Bibby as the team's head coach followed by the recent hiring of Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal as the general manager.
A 6-foot-3 guard, Williams was rated as a five-star prospect early in his high school career, buoyed by his viral dunks and YouTube mixtapes. As a freshman at San Ysidro High School in San Diego, Williams averaged 29.9 points and broke the school's single-game scoring record with 77 points. He was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year.
Initially committed to Memphis, Williams never played a game for the Tigers and transferred to Central Florida following an April 2023 arrest for allegedly firing a gun at a car full of people at his home.
The charges were reduced and Williams ultimately pleaded guilty to one felony count of making criminal threats with provisions that would allow him to avoid jail time. That charge was reduced to a misdemeanor in August after Williams was sentenced to a year of summary probation, which allowed Williams to suit up for the Knights.
At UCF, Williams appeared in 18 games (five starts) and averaged 5.1 points in 14 minutes per contest.

Red flag halts Tuesday qualifying after late incident at Manx GP
The red flag went out shortly after 8pm but no further details were immediately provided by the organisers. It was the second red flag incident since qualifying began on Sunday, with a crash involving Bangor's Andy McAllister at the notorious Black Dub on Monday forcing an end to the action only ten minutes after qualifying began. Before last night's red flag, Manxman Jamie Williams set the fastest time in Senior qualifying on his NCE Racing Honda at 118.571mph. Williams was 4.3s up on Scotsman Chris Cook (118.121mph), while Donegal's Caomhan Canny – making his return from injury after a crash at the Tandragee 100 in June – was fifth fastest at 116.942mph. Canny was narrowly ahead of Limavady's Michael Gahan, who clocked 116.663mph. Southern Irish rider Andy Farell led the Junior Supertwin times on his Aprilia at 113.304mph from Liam Chawke on Ryan Farquhar's KMR Kawasaki (113.242mph) and Senior pacesetter Williams (113.135mph). TT winner Davey Todd recorded the fastest lap overall on the Prosperity Racing Ducati 916 after being granted permission to participate in the Manx Grand Prix qualifying sessions. Practice for the standalone Classic TT meeting is due to commence this evening from 6:30pm and will run in tandem with the Manx Grand Prix. However, Todd will miss some Classic TT practice sessions this weekend, when he will travel to Cadwell Park to compete in the British Superbike Championship on the 8TEN Racing BMW. The English rider co-owns the team with fellow TT winner Peter Hickman, who was injured in a crash in qualifying at the TT. Todd will be one of the favourites in the Classic TT Formula 1 race next Wednesday. The 29-year-old lapped at 121.688mph on the Ducati 916 machine from a standing start last night. His opposition will include 33-time TT winner Michael Dunlop, who will ride the Wiz Norton, plus Mike Browne and Rob Hodson on Ducati 916 machinery. The Classic TT line-up also includes Dean Harrison, John McGuinness, Conor Cummins, Ian Hutchinson, Jamie Coward and Paul Jordan. Todd said: 'Myself and Dean Harrison are off to Cadwell Park and we're away from Thursday evening and don't get back until Tuesday, so we'll miss all of the practice over the weekend. 'The organisers have kindly let us jump in these Manx Grand Prix sessions to get a couple of laps in case anything happens later in the week, and we're unable to get any laps.' Meanwhile, Shaun Anderson from Banbridge has secured a last-minute deal to ride a Yamaha YZF750 in the Classic TT Formula 1 class. Anderson lost his ride on the Wiz Norton to Dunlop but will now be able to take his place in the race after HM Racing stepped in and offered him a lifeline. Last year, Anderson toasted his first win around the Mountain Course when he beat 23-time TT winner McGuinness in a tight finish to secure victory on a Paton machine in the Classic Senior Manx Grand Prix.

Derek Carr is back involved with the NFL, only three months removed from his shocking retirement from football as part of YouTube 's inaugural league broadcast in a few weeks. The former New Orleans Saints quarterback will be an in-studio analyst for the second game of the NFL season between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. Carr will be based in California for the game, and not in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where the NFL has journeyed for the second straight year. The 34-year-old officially retired on May 10 due to a labral tear and 'significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff.' Playing through the injury and surgery were also considered as options for the longtime NFL quarterback before he decided to step away from his playing career. Also in the Los Angeles-based studio for pre-game analysis will be former NFLers Brandon Marhsall and Tyrann Mathieu, as well as Peter Overzet. In the booth for Chargers-Chiefs will be Rich Eisen on play-by-play commentary, alongside former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner as the game analyst. Terry McAulay will be the rules analyst, with Rene Giraldo and Edgar Lopez handling the Spanish commentary. On the sidelines for the game will be YouTube creator Deestroying, combining with the website that helped make him famous in this venture into the NFL, as well as commentator Stacey Dales. Chester: Wrexham man reached 122mph travelling through village
Gareth Ashford-Williams, 40, of Pen Y Graig Road, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday, August 19. He had previously pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle dangerously at a hearing on Monday, July 21. Scott Woodward, prosecuting, told the court that on Saturday, January 18, at about 12.30pm, officers on patrol sighted a VW Golf driving dangerously through the Barton area of Cheshire. An unmarked police motorcycle, fitted with a dash camera and speedometer, was also in attendance. OTHER NEWS: Officers witnessed Ashford-Williams travelling on the A534 Barton Road, which carries the national speed limit, and for a distance of around one mile, the car was observed travelling at up to 122mph. He was later stopped and arrested. The court heard that he had no previous convictions. Olivia Davin, defending, said that the defendant was aware that this was 'an extremely serious offence' and that he had 'no excuse' for driving at this speed. Ms Davin said there was 'not a smudge' on his record and that he had expressed remorse and he deeply regretted his actions. On the day in question the defence said Ashford-Williams could feel the onset of a 'severe migraine' something he had suffered with regularly for 16 years. These migraines often 'triggered panic attacks' and he had taken what he described as a 'stupid' decision in an attempt to get home. He had also lost his father around the time of the offence, and was struggling with an 'intense amount of grief'. As the main 'bread winner' in his family, which includes his wife and young son, the defence added that an immediate custodial sentence would also mean that others would suffer as a result. Magistrates called the speed that Ashford-Williams had driven at 'quite frankly ridiculous' adding that he was 'lucky' not to hurt himself or someone else. He was given a 12-month community order, including 200 hours of unpaid work, and was banned from the road for 24 months. He will also pay costs of £85 and a mandatory surcharge of £114.
