Former Swindon youngster makes move to rival after trial period
Former Swindon Town academy player Miles Obodo has joined Reading after he was not offered a professional contract at the Nigel Eady County Ground.
Obodo left Swindon at the end of last season at the expiry of his scholarship with the club, and has spent the summer looking to stay within the game, having been on trial at Brighton and then Reading, where he has earned a contract.
The 18-year-old was highly rated by Swindon, and was a player Ian Holloway was a big fan of as a prospect, but with the lack of an under-21s team, the decision was taken to allow him to move on.
Much like Josh Keyes last summer, he has found himself moving up the ladder within an academy set up.
Obodo was a big part of Swindon's run to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals in 2023/24 and made his senior debut against Bradford City in October 2023, becoming the sixth-youngest player to make a league appearance for the club at 16 years, seven months, and 19 days.
The striker has signed a one-year deal with Reading to be part of the under-21s team to get the chance to keep developing after spending part of last season on loan at Marlow.
