33-year-old man dies at Milwaukee County Jail, second inmate death there in 2 months

A 33-year-old man died in the Milwaukee County Jail, the second publicly reported death there in roughly two months. The man died May 21 after experiencing a medical emergency, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said. He was booked into custody in November on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine. The sheriff's office did not provide his name. The man's cellmate alerted a corrections officer about 7:41 p.m. that he appeared to be unconscious and in medical distress, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Then, multiple officers and supervisors responded and began trying to save the man's life, the statement said. They twice administered Narcan, a medication used in cases of a suspected overdose. Crews from the Milwaukee Fire Department responded about 7:51 p.m. and began working on him too, but the man was declared dead at 8:19 p.m. The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office will investigate the death. In March a 49-year-old inmate also died at the Milwaukee County Jail after what the sheriff's office called a medical emergency. More: Man's death at Ozaukee County Jail ruled an overdose. 2 people shot as gun violence complaints rise at Milwaukee parks this week

Just as residents and officials feared, gun violence complaints are rising at Milwaukee County parks as temperatures warm and the areas get more active at night. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has had to respond to a park both May 5 and 6 following reports of someone with a gun or shots fired. The Milwaukee Police Department, who is also investigating the May 6 shooting, say two people were shot at Tiefenthaler Park, at North 25th Street and West Galena Street. The victims are ages 20 and 28 and are being treated for injuries at an area hospital, police said. No other information was provided. Sheriff's deputies responded to the park at about 7:30 p.m. following report of multiple shots fired. The sheriff's office said Milwaukee police reported 17 shots fired on ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection technology. Witnesses reported that following the shots, up to six males ran from the park while holding guns, according to the sheriff's office. The night prior, deputies responded to Washington Park for fights and a person accused of having a rifle, according to the sheriff's office. As deputies arrived, a pursuit ensued with a suspected vehicle, which ended near North 38th Street and West Galena Street. Milwaukee police were the pursuing agency and made multiple arrests at that residential intersection after many neighbors and family members tried to stop the arrests of the suspects, according to police. Those moments were in-part captured in a viral video shared to Facebook. In late March, residents gathered at Dineen Park, 6901 W. Vienna Ave., to discuss gun violence at the parks. Dineen Park had been very active at the time, with large groups gatherings typically after hours. A 16-year-old boy and 26-year-old man died following a shooting at the park in March 2024 and a mass shooting killed one and injured nine others last July. Residents expressed that there aren't enough patrols for the park, while the sheriff's office stressed the need for residents to inform officials or law enforcement when they spot illegal or unsafe activity. "If no one's calling us, ... then we don't know that it's going on," said Brian Barkow, chief deputy with the sheriff's office. "If you hear gunshots, please call. They can't get there fast enough. ... If there is a large party going on, ... I guarantee you will see squads come." Residents do have the option to notify the sheriff's office anonymously, through the sheriff's office app. Residents who would rather not engage with law enforcement at all, can also contact 414Life, a team of violence interrupters that is housed at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Anyone with any information about either of this week's incident can also call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips or use the P3 Tips app. The Office of Community Wellness and Safety recommends that residents sign up for the city's Alert Neighbor Program, where neighbors can fill out an application and once approved, will conduct a safety walk with law enforcement and elected officials, and equipment will be distributed, like cameras and lighting, that increases safety. High-speed chase with children in back seat ends in major drug bust, arrests in Wisconsin

RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – A man and woman from Wisconsin were arrested after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase while two children were in the back seat, and authorities later discovered a large stash of drugs inside the vehicle. According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, the incident began shortly before 12:15 p.m. on Monday, April 28. A deputy traveling northbound on Interstate 94 near State Highway 20 clocked a vehicle traveling nearly 110 miles per hour. When the deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver, identified as 27-year-old Micah J. Gonzalez of Milwaukee, sped up and refused to stop. 17-year-old Wisconsin boy arrested for owning tools to convert gun into fully-automatic firearm The pursuit was radioed in, and additional deputies positioned ahead of the vehicle at County Road G successfully deployed a tire deflation device, deflating three of the four tires. Despite losing air in the tires, Gonzalez continued driving into Milwaukee County, with shredded tires and metal rims scraping the roadway. During the pursuit, deputies observed two adults and two young children, ages 3 and 2, in the vehicle. One of the children appeared to be unsecured. Deputies drove in a serpentine pattern in front of Gonzalez to slow the vehicle, which was still traveling 70 to 80 miles per hour. The chase ended near Layton Avenue after Gonzalez crashed into the median wall. Both children were safely removed from the vehicle and were unharmed. Gonzalez and his passenger, 26-year-old Emily Lopez of Greenfield, were taken into custody. Authorities say Lopez had a small amount of cocaine in her purse. The children, whom the couple share, were turned over to their grandmother. A search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of narcotics, including: 462.9 grams of cocaine (tested positive for fentanyl) 768.1 grams of crystal meth 1,025 MDMA pills (tested positive for heroin) 66.3 grams of an unknown liquid, still being tested The pursuit lasted approximately 17 miles, reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour. Gonzalez was referred for the following charges: Four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety One count of second-degree recklessly endangering safety Fleeing and eluding Felony bail jumping Two counts of OWI with a child under 16 (second offense) Resisting or obstructing an officer Possession of drug paraphernalia Two counts of child neglect Possession with intent to deliver cocaine, fentanyl, amphetamine, heroin, and MDMA He also faces a pending case for strangulation, battery, and disorderly conduct, all with a domestic abuse enhancer. His bail is reportedly over $1 million. Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling praised the coordinated response. Man in Wisconsin arrested for 3rd OWI after crashing into building, license was previously revoked 'I extend my sincere appreciation to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office for assisting in getting this deadly menace off the interstate without loss of life or serious injury,' said Schmaling. 'The seizure of the wide array of drugs — much of which is laced with additional poisons — prevented untold harm to the public. I pray for the future of the two young children who have been cursed with these irresponsible, horrible parents. To all the deputies involved in this case, job well done.'
