5 questions for Wisconsin racing in 2025: How much sprint car racing is too much?

Before the calendar flipped, we looked ahead to five questions to be answered – or at least addressed – during the 2025 Wisconsin racing season. One involves an incredible and ambituous stretch of sprint car racing at its highest levels with Kyle Larson's High Limit series June 3-4 and the World of Outlaws June 6-7-8. Advertisement Other questions involved the Milwaukee Mile, the ASA STARS National Tour, what the future might look like for NASCAR in the state, and the short-track juggernaut that is Ty Majeski. But here's the second: Rico Abreu, right, and Brad Sweet, seen at a World of Outlaws race at Beaver Dam Raceway in 2022, are now regulars on the High Limit Racing sprint car series. More: Key Wisconsin auto racing events for the 2025 season How will an unofficial Wisconsin sprint week play out? Not only did the World of Outlaws grace Wisconsin with eight races in 2025, it dropped three of them alongside the previously announced two-night Badger State debut for Kyle Larson's High Limit Racing. Five events in six nights are an abundance for sprint car fans. High Limit is set to race June 3 at 141 Speedway in Maribel and June 4 at Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie to start this unofficial Wisconsin sprint week. The Outlaws events fall on June 6 at the Plymouth Dirt Track, June 7 at Beaver Dam Raceway (the traditional $20,000-to-win Jim 'JB' Boyd Memorial) and June 8 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie. Advertisement There's one conflict across the timespan, Red Cedar on the night of an Outlaws' stop in Jackson, Minnesota. Will any High Limit teams use their proximity and free weekend to cross over and give fans a bigger treat? How many Wisconsin drivers might partake? What's the chance the weather holds for all five nights? And, ultimately, will ticket buyers be able to support it all? Then the Outlaws will be back in the state for doubleheaders June 27-28 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond and July 11-12 at Wilmot Raceway as well as a single night Aug. 19 at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City. Davey Hamilton Jr. To Compete in Four Oval Races for HMD

INDYCAR HMD Motorsports announced May 14 that Davey Hamilton Jr. will join the team for the oval portion of the 2025 INDY NXT by Firestone season. Hamilton will drive the HMD entry at the upcoming two oval test days and four oval races. 'I'm extremely excited for this opportunity with HMD Motorsports,' Hamilton said. 'Oval racing is in my blood, and getting back into the INDY NXT series with a strong team is a big step. I'm grateful to everyone at HMD Motorsports for the chance to be back behind the wheel, and I'm ready to get to work and make the most of this campaign. A huge thank you to all the partners I have behind me to help make this program possible.' Hamilton is a third-generation racer and son of INDYCAR SERIES veteran Davey Hamilton. He brings deep oval racing roots to the HMD Motorsports lineup with experience in sprint cars, supermodifieds and prior INDY NXT oval tests at Nashville Superspeedway. 'We're happy to welcome Davey Hamilton Jr. to our team for the oval races this season,' HMD Motorsports President Mike Maurini said. 'His background and experience on ovals make him a great fit for this program. He completed two test days, one in 2024 and one in 2025, in Nashville, and showed great improvement year over year. His goals are realistic, and that is the best approach to have as we head into an oval-heavy portion of our campaign.' Hamilton will debut with HMD Motorsports at the upcoming INDY NXT oval events at World Wide Technology Raceway (June 15), Iowa Speedway (July 12), Milwaukee Mile (Aug. 24) and Nashville Superspeedway (Aug. 31). He also will take part in the June 9 test at Iowa and the June 24 test in Milwaukee. recommended

Taylor to combine USF Pro 2000 and partial Indy NXT campaign with HMD

Max Taylor will join HMD Motorsports for a partial season in Indy NXT by Firestone. The 17-year-old driver from New Jersey will race the No. 18 entry in five events, including Barber Motorsports Park, the Detroit Grand Prix, Iowa Speedway, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the Milwaukee Mile. On non-conflicting weekends, Taylor will also compete in a full season in USF Pro 2000 with VRD Racing. 'I am anxious and excited to get the 2025 season officially underway,' said Taylor. 'I have been fortunate enough to test in Indy NXT as I continue to further my development, but my number one goal and focus is the USF Pro 2000 championship. A huge thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point. It's going to be a very busy 2025 season.' With a short motorsports career spanning only four years, Taylor began racing karts at a regional level in 2021 before stepping up to the national level the following year. After winning the P1 Stars Championship, finishing in second at the IAME Grand Nationals, and third in both the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour Championship and SKUSA SuperNationals, Taylor moved up to USF Juniors in 2023. In his debut year, Taylor earned one win and finished sixth in the championship. In 2024, Taylor pulled double duty, contesting full seasons in both USF Juniors and USF2000. In USF Juniors he claimed three wins on his way to claiming the championship title. His USF2000 campaign was also a success, with four wins and a third-place result in the championship chase. 'Max has obvious talent and his results from the USF ranks prove that,' said team president Mike Maurini. 'Running with the HMD Motorsports program at Sebring during our recent test, Max proved his speed and saw his name near the top of the time charts. At only 17, Max is on a steep learning curve, but from everything we have seen, he has a very bright future in motorsports.' Before the start of his Indy NXT season, Taylor will have participated in four series tests with HMD Motorsports. Both the Indy NXT and USF Pro 2000 seasons are set to commence during the last weekend of February in St. Petersburg, Fla., where Taylor will make his USF Pro 2000 debut. His Indy NXT debut is scheduled for early May at Barber Motorsports Park. Although Taylor will share the No. 18 seat throughout the season, his car will prominently feature support from his partners, including PINK, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Simplify Asset Management, Unicorn, and Hedgeye. Story originally appeared on Racer
