Illegal sand smuggling busted in multiple operations in Nagpur district
NAGPUR : In a series of actions across Nagpur district, police teams from Bhiwapur , Kuhi , and Kanhan police stations have cracked down on illegal sand transportation, registering multiple cases and seizing vehicles and sand worth over Rs58 lakh. The Bhiwapur police launched the first operation on June 7 after receiving a tip-off about illegal sand movement near Hotel Wada in mouja Taas. A blockade was set up, during which a truck was intercepted. On inspection, the truck was found loaded with sand, and driver Mohan Harisingh Walke (37), a resident of Old Bagadganj, Nagpur, failed to produce any valid transport permit. Police later identified the vehicle owner as Kailash Manohar Sapate of Gadchiroli. The truck, valued at Rs30 lakh, along with 8 brass sand worth Rs40,000, was seized. A case has been registered against both the driver and owner under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, Mines and Minerals Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and the Environment Protection Act. The driver has been arrested. In a parallel operation, the district transport branch, while enforcing road surveillance near Mauja Champa town on Umred-Nagpur road under Kuhi police limits, intercepted a 10-wheel tipper carrying illegally sourced sand. The driver, Akash Santosh Aratpayre (28), a resident of Umred, was unable to produce a license. The vehicle owner, identified as Milind Dilip Telang of Nandanvan, Nagpur, was also implicated. Police seized the tipper valued at Rs25 lakh and 6 brass sand worth Rs36,000. A case has been registered against both the driver and owner under the same legal provisions. Meanwhile, Kanhan police intercepted a mini truck ferrying sand without permit near Khandala Ghatate. The driver, Ajay Dilip Pantawan (38), a resident of the same locality, admitted that he had no license for sand transport and owned the vehicle himself. Police seized the mini truck worth Rs3 lakh and 1 brass sand valued at Rs2,500. A case has been registered and a probe is underway.

Kanhan cops bust sand smuggling ring of 1.31 crore, 4 arrested
Nagpur: Kanhan police dismantled an illegal sand smuggling network, seizing four trucks and arresting four drivers in a bust valued at a staggering Rs1.31 crore. Rural Police Seize Sand Worth Over ₹1.56 Crore
Nagpur: In a coordinated crackdown across Bhiwapur, Umred, and Ramtek, Nagpur Rural Police seized illegally mined sand worth Rs 1.56 crore and arrested four individuals involved in smuggling operations. One driver fled the scene, leaving behind a sand-laden vehicle. In Bhiwapur, police acted on a tip-off and intercepted two tippers near Panjrepar Shivar on the Bhiwapur-Umred road. A 10-wheeler and a 16-wheeler truck were found carrying a total of 16 brass of illegal sand valued at Rs85.8 lakh. The drivers, Ashish Eknath Meshram, 22, and Krishna Baburao Raut, 31, were arrested on the spot. Investigations revealed the sand was extracted from Shivnada Ghat under instructions from the vehicle owners, Dinesh Manohar Savarbanghe and Chetan Telang. In Umred, two more tippers were seized from Thana Shivar based on similar intelligence. The drivers, Satyakumar Satyanarayan Ganzu, 31, and Mohammad Kalam Yunus Khan, 36, were both arrested. The sand, totaling 12 brass, was worth ₹30.6 lakh. The vehicles were linked to Sameem Ansari Bakrid Ansari, a resident of Bahadura Road, Nagpur. Across all three cases, criminal charges have been filed under Section 303(2) of the BNS, Sections 48(7) and 48(8) of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, Sections 4 and 21 of the Mines and Minerals Act, and under other relevant provisions. Illegal sand mining in Asadpur, Sonipat, has diverted the Yamuna. A state report confirms violations by licensed firms exceeding permitted zones. Heavy machinery was used in the river. Remove Ads Political angle emerges Unregulated sand mining in Asadpur village of Haryana's Sonipat district has diverted the Yamuna river from its natural course, according to a field inspection report submitted by the state irrigation and water resources department. The report, compiled on May 22 by a four-member team, found widespread illegal mining despite environmental laws and National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives, a TOI report team, led by superintending engineer R K Bodwal and including executive engineers Ashish Kaushik and Gulshan Kumar, along with sub-divisional officer Himanshu, discovered that licensed firms were operating far beyond permitted zones. The inspection found heavy machinery was being used directly in the flowing stream of the a letter to the chief engineer of Yamuna Water Services (South) in New Delhi, the officials noted that the illegal activity had created several unauthorised access paths. The communication, accessed by The Times of India, said, 'Several unauthorised paths have been created and the river's natural flow has been diverted to facilitate illegal extraction.'The report further highlighted the lack of boundary pillars on the site. Officials said this made it difficult to confirm whether the mining activity was taking place within legally sanctioned in the irrigation department and the Sonipat deputy commissioner's office confirmed the communication. Following the findings, the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau registered a case late Saturday against the company holding the sand mining licence in the area. The company has been accused of large-scale violations within the Yamuna matter has drawn political reactions. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala criticised Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini over the issue. He said, '… at least show some respect to Kanha's (Lord Krishna's) Yamuna.'A senior official from the department said there is growing demand for suspension of mining operations and action against those involved in violations of multiple laws. These include the Environment Protection Act, the Mines and Minerals Act, NGT orders prohibiting the use of machines for sand extraction, and other sand mining guidelines.
