Secunderabad cantonment named cleanest in India

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has been recognised as the best Cantonment Board for its sanitation efforts. The SCB was honoured with a Ministerial Award in the Special Category in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25, conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The award celebrates SCB's efforts in solid waste management and the implementation of innovative sanitation practices, making it the only cantonment in India to receive this honour. The award was received by SCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) D. Madhukar Naik by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Thursday, July 17. It acknowledges the exceptional achievements in sanitation and solid waste management across Cantonment Boards nationwide. 'Some of SCB's key sanitation initiatives include 95% coverage of systematic door-to-door waste collection, 100% cleanliness in residential and market areas, and 75% source segregation of waste. The Board also undertook extensive community engagement through awareness campaigns and school programmes, which significantly contributed to its success,' said Madhukar Naik. SCB secured the top position among 58 cantonments in the country, earning the title of the 'Cleanest Cantonment'. It ranked 11th in the national urban rankings. The cantonment also achieved a three-star rating under the Garbage Free City certification and received the Water+ certification for Open Defecation Free (ODF) status.

‘Karnal, Sonipat to receive honours in Swachh Survekshan'

Chandigarh: Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel said Karnal and Sonipat will be honoured for their cleanliness at the upcoming 'Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards'. President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards on July 17, marking the 9th edition of the annual urban cleanliness survey. According to an official statement issued here, Haryana will be represented by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Minister Vipul Goel at the award ceremony. Goel said Karnal has earned a spot among the top 15 cleanest cities in the country, while Sonipat will be honoured with the prestigious Ministerial Award for cleanliness. 'These recognitions reflect the Haryana government's consistent commitment and innovative efforts in taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of the Swachh Bharat Mission,' he said. According to the statement, the state has focused on public awareness, the use of new technology, and strong on-ground execution to make the cleanliness drive impactful. In the state budget for 2025-26, plans were made to equip all municipalities and councils with modern machines. The proper use of these tools has played a big role in improving the sanitation standards in Haryana, the minister said. Over the last 10 years, Haryana has scientifically processed around 69 lakh metric tonnes of waste out of 101 lakh metric tonnes from 75 old dumping grounds. Through this, 109 acres of land have been reclaimed and are now being developed into green zones, parks, and community spaces, he said.

Five Municipal Corporations in Andhra Pradesh have won the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2025 in various categories, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana said in a release on Saturday, adding that he would be receiving the awards from President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi on July 17. The award-winners (population basis) are Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) in the more than 10 lakh population category, Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) in 3 to 10 lakh population category, and Tirupati in 50,000 to 3 lakh population category. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation won the Ministerial Award (Special Category) and Ministerial Award (State Level) respectively. Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman K. Pattabhiram said that winning the Swachh Survekshan Awards was a matter of pride, and that it showed that the Swachh Andhra Movement was yielding the desired results. He congratulated the officials concerned on winning the awards and appreciated the efforts being made by the sanitary workers for keeping the cities clean.

Seven Chhattisgarh urban local bodies to receive National Swachh Survekshan honours

RAIPUR: Seven urban local bodies (ULBs) from Chhattisgarh will receive national awards for their exceptional performance in cleanliness parameters under Swachh Survekshan 2024. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal and Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu will also attend the event. Bilaspur Municipal Corporation has been selected in the Big Cities category (population between 3 lakh and 10 lakh), Kumhari Municipality in the Small Cities category (population between 20,000 and 50,000), and Bilha Nagar Panchayat in the Very Small Cities category (population below 20,000). Raipur Municipal Corporation will receive the Ministerial Award from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for its outstanding work in cleanliness at the state level. The Super Swachhata League (SSL), a new category introduced in Swachh Survekshan this year, recognises cities that have ranked among the top three at least once in the past three years and are currently placed within the top 200 cities in their respective population categories. Under this new category, three Chhattisgarh ULBs have been selected: Ambikapur Municipal Corporation in the category of cities with populations ranging from 50,000 to 3 lakh, and Patan Nagar Panchayat along with Bishrampur Nagar Panchayat in the category for cities with populations below 20,000. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao extended their congratulations to all seven ULBs selected for the national awards.
