PAC examines MOC's audit report
ISLAMABAD: National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday examined the audit report of the Ministry of Communication for the year. During the meeting, audit officials said that instead of 3,938 sanctioned posts, 4,252 were advertised. 314 additional recruitments were made. On one point, Junaid Akbar Khan said that the documents of the majority are fake; jobs were sold, and you are saying there is a stay order. Most peoples' documents were forged, he added. Whoever took the money did wrong, and whoever gave the money also did wrong, member Afnanullah Khan said. He recommended action should be taken against those responsible. Action should also be taken against whoever made the appointments, says Junaid Akbar Khan. The committee referred the matter of illegal recruitments to NAB for investigation as well as decided to summon the Attorney General regarding the stay order cases. Audit objection also been raised pertaining to the unauthorised use of over Rs 4 billion by Pakistan Post Office. The communications secretary said, 'We have taken departmental action.' Morocco Signs Two Agreements to Develop Its Video Game Industry
Rabat — Morocco has signaled its keenness to boost its video game industry with two groundbreaking partnership agreements for the sector's development in the North African country. These agreements mark a significant step in the country's efforts to develop this promising sector. The first agreement, signed between the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, is set to launch specialized video game development programs in Moroccan public universities. These programs are designed to offer technical university diplomas for baccalaureate plus two years of higher education, bachelor's, and master's degrees. The agreement also includes the establishment of 'Game Labs' in public university spaces. Universities in the region of Rabat-Sale-Kenitra are expected to launch the new training programs in September 2025 as a pilot, and will later expand nationwide for the 2026-2027 academic year. Meanwhile, the second agreement was signed between the Ministry of Communication and the Office of Vocational Training and Employment Promotion. It focuses on developing vocational training programs. According to this agreement, three qualifying training tracks will be launched for emerging professions, including e-sport caster, e-sport streamer, and video game laboratory specialist. This collaboration aims to embrace new professions and align university and vocational training with job market needs in the video game industry, which offers more than 150 different career paths. The global video game market currently generates $300 billion in transactions annually. Morocco is actively working to attract foreign investors, encourage the creation of national companies and startups, and support Moroccan talent in this field. The government has recently joined forces with the French embassy to foster local gaming and strengthen Morocco's position in the global gaming market. The initiative is set to provide Moroccan video game production companies with comprehensive support customized to their specific needs. In March, the Moroccan government approved a new decree to prepare plans to grow Morocco's video game industry as part of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication. India on Saturday suspended exchange of all categories of mail and parcels from Pakistan through air and surface routes amid escalating tensions between the two nations over the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The order suspending the services was issued by the Department of Posts that operates under the Ministry of Communication. India also has banned direct or indirect import of all goods from Pakistan with immediate effect in the interest of national security and public policy, following the Pahalgam terror attack last month in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed, according to a Government Order issued on Friday (May 2, 2025).The decision will completely halt all inbound shipments of goods from Pakistan to India. India's exports to Pakistan in April-January 2024-25 stood at $447.65 million, while imports were meagre $0.42 million. A provision in this regard has been added in Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 'to prohibit direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan with immediate effect until further orders,' the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification dated May 2. 'The remaining two% are those who went and joined the BJP's 'washing machine,'' he said. Mr. Gokhale referred to Thursday's (May 1) statement of ED Director Rahul Navin, to claim that the surge in cases post-2014 was at the behest of Narendra Modi, who came to power the same year. Speaking at an event on ED Day, Mr. Navin said the anti-money laundering law had been 'largely ineffective' before 2014 and there has been a significant step-up in enforcement activity since a post on X, Mr. Gokhale said, 'Yesterday, the head of central agency ED admitted that there's been a surge of cases filed after Modi Government came to power in 2014.' 'In the last 11 years, a total of 5,297 cases were filed by ED. How many were taken to court for trial? Only 47,' he said. The TMC Rajya Sabha MP said the conviction rate in ED cases is only 0.7%.'That means out of every 1,000 cases filed, accused were found guilty in only seven cases,' he said.'Therefore, out of every 1,000 cases, 993 cases are filed by ED purely to keep a person in jail because getting bail under the draconian PMLA is almost impossible,' he said. According to the ED Director, 1,739 cases filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act are under trial at present. He said out of the 47 cases decided by courts, the conviction rate was 93.6% with only three acquittals. One judge for 18.7 lakh people: vacancy, pendency crises plague High Courts In a rare and candid observation, the Delhi High Court last week cited the 'acute shortage of judges' as a key reason for its inability to hear all cases listed in its daily cause list. The comment serves as a sobering reminder of the systemic challenges confronting the judiciary. The observation came during the hearing of a routine application by a man accused of cheating and forgery, who was seeking permission to travel abroad. Though incidental, the remark has drawn attention to a longstanding issue plaguing the judiciary — chronic judicial vacancies across India. The Delhi High Court currently functions with only 36 judges, well below its sanctioned strength of 60. This means nearly 40% of judicial posts remain vacant. The court is simultaneously grappling with a staggering backlog of 1,34,090 pending cases. According to the latest data from the Department of Justice, India's 25 High Courts have a combined sanctioned strength of 1,114 judges. As of now, only 769 judges are in position, leaving 345 posts, or over 30%, vacant. These 769 judges are responsible for clearing a backlog of 62,96,798 cases pending across High Courts. All-party meet in Haryana asks Punjab govt to release water 'unconditionally' The stand-off between Punjab and Haryana over water sharing intensified on Saturday (May 3, 2025) with an all-party meeting in Haryana calling on the AAP government in the neighbouring State to allow the release of water from the Bhakra dam unconditionally. This came a day after an all-party meeting in Punjab backed the state government's refusal to release more water to BJP-ruled Haryana. Pahalgam terror attack updates May 3, 2025 Citing "cross-border linkages" to the April 22 attack, India has promised severe punishment to those involved in the strike. In a high-level meeting with the top defence brass, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asserted that the armed forces have "complete operational freedom" to decide on the mode, targets and timing of India's response to the terror attack. The Prime Minister affirmed that it is a national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism, they said after the meeting. India on April 23 announced a raft of punitive measures against Pakistan including suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down of the only operation land border crossing at Attari and downgrading of diplomatic ties in view of cross-border links to the attack. In response, Pakistan shut its airspace to Indian airliners and suspended all trade with India, including through third countries. Pakistan rejected India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and said any move to stop the flow of water will be seen as an "act of war".
