110 Indian Students Moved Out Of Tehran For Safety, Says MEA

Indian students in Tehran have been relocated from the city as a safety precaution, with the Indian Embassy facilitating their movement amid the escalating situation. Other Indian nationals with access to their own transport have also been advised to leave the capital. In a separate effort, some Indians have been helped to exit Iran via the Armenia border. Officials have indicated that further advisories may be issued as the situation continues to evolve. India had earlier evacuated a batch of 110 Indian students from Urmia Medical University in Iran and safely helped them cross the border into Armenia. The group is scheduled to fly to New Delhi on Wednesday, marking one of the first major evacuations amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. The evacuation is part of a broader effort by the Indian government, which began relocating its citizens from Iran on Monday in response to the deteriorating security environment. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had earlier confirmed that the Embassy in Tehran was actively monitoring the situation, remaining in constant contact with Indian students and facilitating their relocation to safer areas where necessary. 'In some cases, students are being relocated with the Embassy's facilitation to safer places within Iran. Other feasible options are also under examination. Further updates will follow," the MEA said in a statement. It also noted that the Embassy is coordinating with community leaders and continues to advise Indian nationals to stay in touch through official channels. In its latest advisory, the Indian Embassy urged all Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin to stay vigilant, limit non-essential movement, follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities, and stay updated through the Embassy's official social media channels. 'Requesting @MEAIndia to urgently ensure the safety and well-being of Kashmiri students currently stuck in Iran. Their families are deeply worried, and we stand with them in this difficult time,' Abdullah said. Tagging External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the Jammu and Kashmir CM said, 'Every step must be taken to safeguard our students.' Israel struck 100 targets in Iran, including nuclear and military sites, and killing senior figures.
