MSDF announces establishment of Alzheimer's Patients Association
QNA Doha The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) has announced the establishment of the Alzheimer's Patients Association, which was established in accordance with the provisions of Decree-Law No. (21) of 2020 regarding private associations and institutions. The association aims to provide support and assistance to Alzheimer's patients and their families and to raise community awareness about this disease within the country. The Alzheimer's Patients Association works in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the achievement of its humanitarian and social goals, including training specialised personnel, providing psychological and social support programmes for patients and their families, and monitoring and addressing the problems facing this group. Director of the Private Associations and Institutions Department at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Naji Al Ajji emphasised that the association represents a qualitative addition to Qatari society, given its vital role in supporting a segment of patients in need of special care and attention. For her part, Chair of the association's founding committee Noura Al Jaidah said that the association's establishment represents an important achievement in the national effort to enhance community and healthcare.

Qatar participates in Int'l Family Forum in Istanbul
QNA Istanbul Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, recently participated in the International Family Forum held in Istanbul, Turkiye. Organised by the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services, the forum convened under the theme 'OurFamilyOurFuture'. Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs HE Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani led Qatar's delegation to the forum. The forum focused on strengthening and protecting the institutions of family and marriage, as well as fostering the well-being of future generations and robust demographic structures. The event aimed to enhance understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing families and communities, and to establish a common platform for discussions on how to better protect, empower, and support families in their vital roles. The ministry also took part in a ministerial session titled 'Integrating Family-Oriented Policies: National and International Efforts.' During the session, the ministry emphasised Qatar's strong commitment to supporting and empowering families, noting that contemporary challenges require comprehensive policies rooted in scientific research. This is particularly crucial given demographic shifts, domestic violence, and social changes brought about by technology and work. The ministry also participated in the third dialogue session 'The Family in the Era of Digital Screens'. This session highlighted the challenges posed by digital technologies and social media on families, including their impact on family cohesion, upbringing, and mental health, stressing the importance of balanced technology use and the activation of awareness programs to reinforce family values. On the sidelines of the forum, Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs HE Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani met with Palestinian Minister of Social Development Dr. Samah Abu Al Awn. Their discussion centred on avenues of cooperation between the two ministries and methods of providing support to affected Palestinian families. She also met with Nigeria's Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim. They reviewed the mandates of the Women Affairs Ministry and explored collaborative opportunities and support mechanisms between the two ministries. She also met with Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services of Turkiye Leman Yenigun. The discussion focused on bilateral cooperation and the exchange of expertise in child protection and technology.

DOHA: The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), represented by the Family Empowerment Department, is organizing a training workshop titled 'Preserving Cultural Crafts - Naqda Embroidery'at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA). The workshop is part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to support traditional crafts and aligns with its broader programs aimed at empowering productive families and developing the skills of individuals working in the field of family empowerment. To this end, the Ministry collaborates with relevant institutions and implements training projects that preserve cultural heritage while providing support services that create new opportunities for participants. The workshop highlights Naqda, a traditional craft deeply rooted in Qatari heritage. It will cover the concept, history, and cultural importance of Naqda embroidery, in addition to introducing the traditional tools and fabrics used. Participants will also have the opportunity to view design samples and patterns associated with the craft. Furthermore, the workshop includes hands-on training in applying Naqda embroidery to garments such as the Milfa and Bukhnag. The goal is to equip participants - particularly women - with the skills to incorporate this heritage craft into contemporary designs such as abayas and souvenir items, thereby enhancing prospects for sustainable production and improved marketability. In this context, Fatima Al Nuaimi, Director of the Family Empowerment Department, stated that the workshop aims to train and transform participants from consumers into skilled artisans. It also seeks to empower entrepreneurs by attracting and training new groups interested in learning the Naqda craft. She noted that the Ministry aspires for the workshop to achieve its objectives by enabling participants to launch new production projects that creatively merge Qatari heritage with modern design, with opportunities to promote their products through exhibitions and Ministry-affiliated marketing platforms.
