MSDF organises workshop on 'Naqda' embroidery at MIA

DOHA: The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), represented by the Family Empowerment Department, is organizing a training workshop titled 'Preserving Cultural Crafts - Naqda Embroidery'at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).
The workshop is part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to support traditional crafts and aligns with its broader programs aimed at empowering productive families and developing the skills of individuals working in the field of family empowerment. To this end, the Ministry collaborates with relevant institutions and implements training projects that preserve cultural heritage while providing support services that create new opportunities for participants.
The workshop highlights Naqda, a traditional craft deeply rooted in Qatari heritage. It will cover the concept, history, and cultural importance of Naqda embroidery, in addition to introducing the traditional tools and fabrics used. Participants will also have the opportunity to view design samples and patterns associated with the craft.
Furthermore, the workshop includes hands-on training in applying Naqda embroidery to garments such as the Milfa and Bukhnag. The goal is to equip participants - particularly women - with the skills to incorporate this heritage craft into contemporary designs such as abayas and souvenir items, thereby enhancing prospects for sustainable production and improved marketability.
In this context, Fatima Al Nuaimi, Director of the Family Empowerment Department, stated that the workshop aims to train and transform participants from consumers into skilled artisans. It also seeks to empower entrepreneurs by attracting and training new groups interested in learning the Naqda craft.
She noted that the Ministry aspires for the workshop to achieve its objectives by enabling participants to launch new production projects that creatively merge Qatari heritage with modern design, with opportunities to promote their products through exhibitions and Ministry-affiliated marketing platforms.
The Family Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Social Development and Family is committed to realizing the Qatar National Vision 2030 by fostering a sustainable environment for productive national entrepreneurs. The Ministry continues to support and encourage development initiatives in coordination with relevant stakeholders, while guiding and promoting the efforts of the private sector and civil society organizations to establish or fund development projects that contribute to the economic and social empowerment of individuals and families.

DOHA: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan HE Bakhtiyor Saidov co-chaired the first meeting of the Coordination Council for Strategic Partnership between the two countries, held in Doha. At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed his Uzbek counterpart and the accompanying delegation, expressing the sincere wishes of His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani,for the success of the Coordination Council in expanding the multifaceted relations between Qatar and Uzbekistan. He noted that relations between Qatar and Uzbekistan have advanced to a solid strategic partnership, based on the shared will and sincere desire of the leaderships of the two countries, which was embodied in the signing of the bilateral strategic partnership agreement in 2024. He added in this context that the roots of political relations between them extend back more than two decades, which constitutes a solid foundation for constructive cooperation and embodies the depth of the ties that unite the two countries and their continued keenness to develop them in various fields, in a way that achieves common interests and meets the aspirations of their friendly peoples. He continued, "Within the framework of our two countries' commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, and based on our conviction that the strategic partnership represents a fundamental pillar for a sustainable integration path, this partnership opens broader horizons for political consultation and regional and international coordination on issues of common interest. It also enhances opportunities for developing bilateral cooperation in various fields, building on the solid foundations upon which Qatari-Uzbek relations have been built, especially in recent years, in the areas of development, trade, investment and energy. This embodies the two countries' keenness to continue to advance joint cooperation to achieve their interests and keep pace with the aspirations of the two friendly peoples." He also emphasized that the impact of this partnership is embodied in strengthening economic relations between the two countries, with the volume of trade exchange reaching approximately $1.8 billion in 2024, within the framework of a shared ambition to develop and enhance this exchange by expanding the horizons of trade and investment cooperation. The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that recent years have witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries in various fields, confirming the strength of bilateral relations and reflecting their firm determination to advance them to more comprehensive and profound levels, serving their common interests and meeting the aspirations of their friendly peoples. He also welcomed the holding of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand from October 30 to November 13, 2025, and the second summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Central Asia in Uzbekistan in 2026. For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and generous hospitality accorded to the Uzbek delegation. He conveyed the greetings of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan HEShavkat Mirziyoyev, and his unequivocal affirmation of strengthening and deepening fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. He also welcomed the selection of Doha to host the Second World Social Summit from November 4 to 6, 2025, and the announcement by the State of Qatar of its bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. During the discussions, the two sides focused on enhancing political dialogue, expanding trade and investment, promoting academic, scientific, and cultural exchanges, encouraging youth and sports development, improving transportation connectivity, and addressing environmental sustainability and climate change. The two countries also affirmed their interest in strengthening comprehensive bilateral relations based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and realism. They emphasized that regular mutual visits at the highest levels, as well as increased exchange of delegations, would contribute to strengthening and expanding their strategic partnership. The two sides noted the importance of deepening cooperation within international and regional organizations, coordinating positions on political and security issues of common interest, and exploring opportunities to support candidacies in international forums to serve the interests of both countries. They also emphasized the importance of continuing active efforts to enhance economic cooperation, including investment and trade, by exchanging information on business opportunities, taking joint measures to increase the volume of mutual trade, and organizing trade fairs and forums. They also agreed to hold the second meeting of the Qatari-Uzbek Coordination Council for Strategic Partnership in Samarkand. The two parties welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Qatar Mining Company and the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding investment cooperation. In conclusion, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that this meeting represents a pivotal executive step towards activating the agreement to establish strategic partnership relations between Qatar and Uzbekistan, and affirms the shared commitment to developing and strengthening bilateral cooperation. He said, "The understandings and outcomes reached will be closely monitored by us, to transform them into clear and effective implementation steps that serve the interests of our two countries and peoples." He expressed his aspiration to hold future meetings that will enhance cooperation and understanding, and consolidate the bonds of strategic fraternal relations between the two friendly countries and peoples, and to hold the second meeting of the General Council next year in Samarkand to build on what was achieved and follow up on the implementation of the outcomes of this meeting. It is worth noting that the Coordination Council, established under the 2024 bilateral strategic partnership agreement, serves as a platform to ensure the effective implementation of high-level agreements and explore new horizons for cooperation in the political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields.

DUBAI: The State of Qatar participated in the 94th session of the Executive Council of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) and the workshop of the Undersecretaries of Ministries of Education in the member states on the strategic directions of the bureau. The workshop was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with the participation of the undersecretaries of Ministries of Education in the member states. The Qatari delegation was headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education HEDrIbrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, and a member of the Executive Council of the Education Bureau of the State of Qatar. At the beginning of his speech, the undersecretary of the ministry emphasized the importance of the meeting in strengthening the educational process and joint work among the Gulf states, and developing educational systems in line with future aspirations, achieving forward-looking goals that serve the peoples of the region and future generations, and consolidating their competitive position on the global level. He also praised the programmes and activities of the Office and its affiliated bodies during the past financial cycle, stressing that they achieved the desired goals according to the outputs, achievement indicators and reports, in addition to developing the educational policies and practices adopted by member states, which strengthened joint Gulf action and fruitful cooperation. The 94th session of the Executive Council of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) discussed the final accounts and financial statements, the draft regulations for developing the bureau's additional financial resources, and a presentation by the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences on the quality of education in the GCC countries and the foundation's initiatives, in addition to a number of other topics on its agenda.

QFC records 64% growth in firm registration in first half of 2025

Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), a leading onshore financial and business centre in the region, recorded a remarkable 64 percent increase in firm registrations in the first half (H1) of 2025 compared to the same period of 2024. This growth reflects increased investor confidence in the Qatari market and reaffirms QFC's position as a trusted platform for doing business in the region. With 828 new firms registered, QFC has almost surpassed its 2024 record, bringing the total number of registered firms to 3,300 by June 2025. Notably, QFC's regulated firms delivered strong performance, with Corporate & Investment Banks driving a 19 percent year-on-year increase in Assets Under Management (AUM). QFC's H1 performance was supported by strategic reforms to facilitate market entry, targeted business development and stakeholder engagement efforts. Measures such as simplifying the incorporation process, allowing applicants to instantly establish a legal entity and obtain a licence for non-regulated activities, and reducing the application fee for licensing a business by 90 percent have significantly lowered entry barriers, encouraging more entrepreneurs to launch their businesses through the QFC platform. During the first half of the year, QFC hosted and participated in over 15 events. Notable hosted and co-hosted events include the 3rd Annual Qatar Financial Market Forum powered by Bloomberg Intelligence, the Qatar Family Office Showcase, the QFC & Morgan Stanley Economic Workshop, the Digital Assets Policy Roundtable held on the sidelines of the Qatar Economic Forum, and the Qatar Islamic Finance Forum. QFC also participated in major international events such as the Qatar Web Summit, and the World Economic Forum in Davos. These platforms were used to promote QFC's value proposition and highlight Qatar's competitive business environment to investors and relevant stakeholders. QFC's presence at the 2025 Web Summit was particularly impactful. Between February and June 2025, 566 firms registered with the QFC through the Web Summit, a sharp rise from the 358 firms recorded during the previous edition. QFC also expanded its network through strategic partnerships aimed at advancing its focus sectors, supporting economic development, facilitating cross-border investment, and enhancing its value proposition. Memoranda of Understanding were signed with Qatar National Bank (QNB), German Mittelstand GCC, Gulf Capital Market Association (GCMA), Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Financial Services Development Council (FSDC), and Ashmore Group. In addition, QFC signed a Head of Terms with Hang Seng Indexes Company Limited (HSIL) and a service agreement with The View Hospital. Further progress was made under the Innovation Dome, QFC's flagship initiative. During H1, 33 firms joined the Digital Assets Lab, which is spearheading collaborative projects in areas including Islamic finance, tokenised deposits, real estate tokenisation, and blockchain-based rewards systems. In addition, the QFC Metaverse was launched, an immersive digital platform designed to facilitate business engagement, collaboration, and innovation. It serves as a central hub for networking, showcasing new technologies, and hosting workshops, training sessions, and expert-led discussions. Commenting on QFC's compounding growth, QFC Chief Executive Officer Yousuf Mohamed Al Jaida said, 'We are pleased to see positive results from our ongoing efforts to enhance Qatar's business ecosystem and drive progress across sectors. Our focus remains on fostering an environment that attracts diverse businesses and supports sustainable growth.
