One Piece's Elbaf mural reveals a hidden war between ancient races
The Elbaf Island mural shows a secret war from the Void Century—and it includes nearly every major race in One Piece. If you're not familiar with One Piece, it's a massive global anime phenomenon filled with pirates, fun and powers, and the mysteries of life. One of its largest lingering mysteries is the 'Void Century'— a lost 100 years of history that the world government has wiped from existence. With the recent Elbaf arc, a giant mural has finally surfaced to show what actually occurred! The mural, painted on the mythical Adam Tree in Elbaf (the land of giants), depicts a titanic clash between all the races of the world. Every race, every country together, shoulder-to-shoulder, fighting side-by-side in this united front against this one formidable and horrifying foe. Fans are convinced that this piece of artwork provides an insight into the wonderful war that took place during the incredibly obscure Void Century. Here's a complete rundown of all the races we know so far represented in the Elbaf mural, who they are, and why they're important. 1. Humans: The heart of the world Most Common Race | Best-Known Character: Monkey D. Luffy Humans, the real majority The humans of the One Piece world are divided among various kingdoms and islands. Often at a physical disadvantage to other races, humans still manage to take the reins and direct significant historical events. Similar to Luffy, the anime's protagonist. Most touchingly on the mural, humans are depicted sailing together with other races, including Wano warriors alongside and even what appears to be people from the Kingdom of Arabasta! 2. Giants: Elbaf's mighty warriors Massive in Size and Strength | Best-Known Characters: Dorry & Brogy Giants are towering warriors who mainly inhabit the island of Elbaf. Famed for their raw power and military prowess, they are able to determine the fate of entire wars. Notice how in the mural, a giant is clearly leading the charge in the middle, perhaps representing Elbaf's central role in this ancient battle. Their return to the narrative has sparked excitement toward uncovering the giants' true past. 3. Ancient giants: The lost titans Larger Than Even Giants | Best-Known Character: Oars Fabled Ancient Giants were an even more powerful version of today's giants. They are so big in fact they dwarf even the biggest monsters. One mural scene depicts an Ancient Giant preparing to hurl a spear towards alarmed foes, demonstrating how crucial their might was in this long lost conflict. Elbaf's prince Loki is said to bear their bloodline. 4. Mink tribe: Animal warriors of Zou Animal-Human Hybrids | Best-Known Characters: Inuarashi & Nekomamushi Along the way, they encounter Minks, humanoid animals who live on the back of the giant, centuries-old elephant, Zunesha. Along with the transformations you can perform under the full moon, which take the form of 'Sulong forms,' these periods are incredibly powerful and just look amazing. The mural depicts both standard Minks and a Sulong Mink storming the enemy. They battled alongside Wano's samurai and were once members of Pirate King Gold Roger's crew. 5. Dwarves: Tiny but tough fighters Small in Size, Big in Strength | Best-Known Character: Leo That's not to mention the Tontatta Dwarves, tiny folk of Dressrosa. Even at that massive size, they're able to be the fastest land animal and have the strength of being a megafauna. In the mural, they're pictured to the left of the mermaid princess, storming ahead with their spears drawn. As such, they're now members of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. 6. Mermaids: Guardians of the sea kings Ocean Dwellers | Best-Known Character: Princess Shirahoshi As you may know, mermaids inhabit the ocean, famed for their mesmerizing beauty and inexplicable magic. Only a single mermaid swims through the mural. Her upturned tail suggests she's a princess, able to summon Sea Kings to do her bidding. There's a good chance that power would win any war before it starts. The current princess, Shirahoshi, is this generation's Sea King summoner. 7. Lunarians: Winged flame-wielders Sky Warriors with Fire Powers | Best-Known Character: King Now on the brink of extinction, lunarians are a beautiful race with dark wings and the ability to conjure flames. Once a scourge and terrible, now they dwell in lore. A Lunarian depicted in the mural is clearly shown attacking from above, implying superiority in the skies. The only survivor so far today from the All Star liquidation is the last of the All Stars, King, former right-hand man to Kaido. 8. Birkans: Sky people from the moon One of Three Sky Races | Best-Known Character: Enel Birkans are a winged race from the moon that now inhabit Skypiea. Though physically weaker than Lunarians, they were responsible for crafting expansive, beautiful civilizations spanning continents. In the mural, a Birkan hovers over a herd of runaway humans, perhaps in pursuit of the mythical vessel Noah. After the climax of Skypiea, Enel, the 'god' of Shandia, departed from Earth completely and returned to the Moon. 9. Longarm tribe: Double-jointed warriors Extra Arm Joint for Better Combat | Best-Known Character: Scratchmen Apoo The Longarm Tribe longarms have two joints in their arms, granting them greater flexibility and distance in combat. In the mural, they're depicted alongside their cousins, the Longleg Tribe, rushing side-by-side into war. Apoo, one of the Supernovas, is easily the most recognizable Longarm in the narrative. 10. Longleg tribe: Powerful kickers Long Legs with Amazing Reach | Most Famous Member: Charlotte Smoothie The Longllegs have exceedingly long legs, which they use for vicious kicks. Their idyllic presence in the mural, side by side with Dragonborn and other human-like races, underscores their importance in the ancient war. Smoothie, the governor of the Totto Land territory in service of her mother, is yet another heavyweight fighter in the Big Mom Pirates, and their strongest named member. Why this Mural is so important This mural may be the greatest National Treasure-level clue so far about the lost history of the One Piece world. It uncovers the mystery that when all of the world's races used to be on equal footings, they fought together against a common foe—the possible ancestor of the World Government. It foreshadows how Luffy's current adventure will parallel that old fight, as he's bringing together diverse peoples, nations, and pirate alliances for a shared purpose. Is Luffy repeating history? From giants to mermaids, Lunarians to dwarves, just about every race depicted in the mural has some link to Luffy's crew or allies at this point. As our heroes dive deeper into the Elbaf arc, this ancient war may just serve as the blueprint for the final war yet to come. For longtime fans and, hopefully, new viewers, Elbaf's massive mural could hold the answer to finally discovering what the Void Century is all about and what Luffy needs to do to remake the world in his image. Ragdoll Cat's Stunning Teal Eyes Have Everyone Hypnotized
Ragdolls cats are crazy beautiful. They're everything a cat lover could ever dream of, and to boot, they have the temperament of an angel. They're just perfect, and to boot, they have such beautiful eyes. Even though every Ragdoll on the planet has beautiful eyes, there's one who has them all beat. When her mama posted a video of her on Friday, May 9th, we could hardly believe our own eyes. They're the prettiest shade of teal: Eevee and Yoshi are both beautiful, but Eevee's eyes are otherworldly entirely. It's like someone bottled up the ocean!Eevee the Ragdoll is the oldest of the two cats, and she's also the tallest. Look at how stretched out she is in this video! She is so tall, and she's very floppy, too: when her mom picks her up, she just dangles. In terms of conventionally attractive cats, Eevee definitely makes the list! Since she's a standard Ragdoll, Eevee has the most striking blue eyes, though they do look just a little bit green in that light. Her brother's eyes almost match hers, but they're just a twinge more grey. A lot of people believe that, to be a real Ragdoll, the cat has to have blue eyes. However, that's actually not the case! While it is true that most (about 60%) of them do have blue eyes, a totally legitimate, purebred Ragdoll might have: Gold eyes. Green eyes. Mismatched eyes. There are two distinct types of Ragdolls, too: traditional Ragdolls and "Mink" Ragdolls. Minks are often different-colored in general, like this rare cinnamon-brown kitty, and they're more likely to have less-traditional eye colors. Eevee's eyes would win in a fight against every single one of them, though. Plus, it doesn't help that she's so tall, so fluffy, and so very sweet! 🐶🐾🐾

National Balloon Museum makes progress one-year after fire
INDIANOLA, Iowa — One year after a fire delayed the grand reopening of the National Balloon Museum, its staff is planning for a new opening day. Last year, the Indianola museum was undergoing renovations and planned to reopen on April 6, 2024. However, an electrical fire just one week before set the timeline back. The museum's operations manager, Kendra Minks, said that while the fire started in an outlet close to the entrance of the museum, the smoke ruined everything that was inside. Over the last year, they stripped the building down to its studs and rebuilt, according to Minks. The museum will still follow the same layout they planned to have last year, a timeline that will take the public through the history of hot air ballooning. Renaissance Faire returns to Ames next weekend The stained glass window was one of the only things that was saved in the fire, which Minks said they're grateful for because the artist who created it has since passed away. A local artist repainted a mural at the museum's entrance, which was ruined in the fire. They still need to finish the flooring before they can redecorate. The total cost of restoration so far is just shy of $2 million. Minks said most of the restoration efforts came through insurance. The community is also helping play a role in restoring the museum. Donations from the public will be used to purchase new artifacts and display items. All the artifacts that were in the museum during the fire are currently in Michigan being restored, cleaned, and assessed. Minks said they're not sure yet how many of these artifacts will be back on display. 'We aren't totally for sure yet what everything will look like, how it will look. We'll know all that once everything returns from Michigan, and we have a chance to just look at it, feel it, touch it, and just get a feel for the condition that it's in,' said Minks. When construction finishes inside, Minks said they will return the artifacts and decide what can stay on display. Other items will be returned to the folks who donated them. West African village drumming brings dozens to Waukee library A poker tournament and silent auction in October helped the museum raise $5,000. People outside of Iowa are also helping. The Winker Family donated $250,000 to the museum in October. 'We were not expecting it. So, it was a complete surprise, and we were just astounded at the generosity of the Winker family and appreciate everything that they have donated,' said Minks. Staff is tentatively planning to reopen The National Balloon Museum in time for the National Ballon Classic this year, which starts on July 25. Community members can still donate to the museum to help purchase new artifacts. Placer County woman to turn over cash, designer bags in plea deal with feds
A Placer County woman will turn over dozens of luxury items including designer purses, a Rolex watch and a Cartier necklace as part of a plea deal filed in Sacramento federal court in connection with a series of schemes including interstate marijuana distribution, identity theft and impersonating public officials. Myra Boleche Minks, who prosecutors said operated with two co-conspirators out of a house in Loomis, admitted that she purchased marijuana in California and sent it to Georgia, Nevada, Texas and other states. The weed was either stuffed into suitcases and carried on commercial airline flights by couriers who worked for the group, or sent via shipping companies, the plea agreement filed Tuesday says. According to the agreement with prosecutors, the sales generated cash, which was either brought back to the house in Loomis in suitcases, shipped back or deposited in banks by the group's associates. Minks admitted that she used the proceeds from the sales to buy luxury goods including an 18-karat white gold ring that featured a pear-shaped 7.15-carat diamond and 20 smaller diamonds. The list of 73 items she agreed to forfeit included nearly $40,000 in cash, several pieces of jewelry and dozens of purses by Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada, Yves St. Laurent and others. In addition to the marijuana sales, Minks also pleaded guilty to impersonating government officials on several occasions. In April 2020, after two people were shot at on a freeway in Oakland, Minks called the hospital where they were taken, saying she was a DEA agent named Amanda Wilkins and asking whether the car the two had been traveling in was being searched, according to prosecutors. She also sought information from the California Highway Patrol about the investigation, again posing as Wilkins. On another occasion, Minks toured a house in the Placer County community of Newcastle with co-conspirator Quinten Moody, who has already pleaded guilty in the case, the agreement says. When she learned that someone else had made an offer on the property, she impersonated an FBI agent in an effort to get them to drop the deal, the agreement says. Minks also posed as an assistant U.S. attorney to get information about a co-conspirator who was arrested in Georgia, according to prosecutors. She identified herself as a Secret Service agent when trying to pry information about a criminal investigation in the town of Colma in San Mateo County and a federal prosecutor seeking information about a murder in San Francisco. A separate scheme involved identity theft and efforts to obtain California unemployment benefits, the agreement says. Minks is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 5. She faces up to 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine for the marijuana distribution charge, and three years of incarceration and a $250,000 fine for each of seven counts of impersonating an officer or employee of the United States. She faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for a mail fraud charge related to the unemployment insurance scam, and two years and a fine of up to $250,000 for the identity theft charge. Moody was sentenced in 2023 to 84 months in prison.

American mink recovers from injury at Virginia Wildlife Center
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – For the first time in five years, since 2019, the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center is caring for an American Mink. The mink was brought to the center on February 27 with limited mobility, including one functional arm and two immobile legs. It has since been receiving round-the-clock care, including anti-inflammatories, pain medication, and laser therapy to help reduce the swelling. Although the healing process is slow, there are signs of progress. Due to treatment, the mink is now starting to get movement back in all limbs. 'Hoo' goes there? Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center releasing Eastern Screech Owl The cause behind the injuries is unknown; however, the center believes the trauma is related to a vehicle collision. The severity of the injuries is believed to be from a spinal trauma that caused swelling and pressure on the spinal cord and nerve that left the mink with temporary paralysis. Minks are known to be solitary, nocturnal, and semi-aquatic, with a diverse diet of insects, rodents, fish, crustaceans, amphibians, and birds. Meet 'Cosmos,' Wildlife Center of Virginia reveals ambassador Opossums new name They are great swimmers and have webbed feet, which allow them to dive up to 17 feet. They can also stay underwater for several minutes. Their species are likely to be found in wetlands, including rivers, ponds, and streams, which is why intake at the center is rare.
