Tickets set to go on sale for the pre-Broadway run of 'Purple Rain' in Minneapolis
It's time to call up a friend and let them know you only wanted to see them underneath the Purple Rain marquee.
Hennepin Arts has unveiled when tickets will go on sale for the pre-Broadway premiere of Purple Rain.
Originally set for an April premiere, the musical was delayed to this fall. However, it does not appear that another delay is in the offing, as tickets for the pre-Broadway run will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 9.
A musical has been adapted from the film that catapulted Prince to new heights of fame. Before it heads to Broadway, it'll have a five-week engagement at the State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis beginning on Oct. 16 and running through Nov. 16.
The Minnesota-set musical has a book by Tony Award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and direction by Tony nominee Lileana Blain-Cruz.
Jason Michael Webb is the music supervisor. He also arranged the music and orchestrations. Webb is assisted by former Prince collaborators Morris Hayes and Bobby Z, who are the production's music advisors.
The official opening night performance will take place on Nov. 5. Tickets will be available through the Hennepin Arts website.
