Two Minnesota State Fair free concert stages lose corporate sponsorship

Two familiar free stages at the Minnesota State Fair have lost their corporate sponsorship. The Leinie Lodge Bandshell, the Fair's largest free stage, is now known as the Bandshell, while Schell's Stage at Schilling Amphitheater is now the West End Market Stage at Schilling Amphitheater. A State Fair spokesperson declined an interview request, but did release a statement saying that their sponsorship agreements typically range from one to three years. 'We have been privileged to collaborate with several valued sponsors over many, many years, including Leinenkugel's and August Schell Brewing Co., whose long-standing support of the State Fair is deeply appreciated,' the statement said. 'We recognize that companies reassess their budget priorities for a variety of reasons, and we respect that every situation is unique. We extend our sincere gratitude and best wishes to all of our partners as they move forward.' The spokesperson also said the State Fair is open to discuss new sponsorship inquiries. Leinenkugel's first sponsored the Leinie Lodge in the International Bazaar in 1990. Beginning in 2001, the larger Bandshell was named the Leinie Lodge Bandshell. A spokesperson for Molson Coors, parent company of Leinenkugel's, declined an interview request, but released a statement to the Pioneer Press: 'Leinenkugel's will continue to be available at the State Fair this year, and though it is common for brands to shift sponsorships, we'll continue to show up with various partners at events across Minnesota.' August Schell Brewing Co. started at the State Fair in 2004 as a sponsor of the Heritage Square stage. In 2014, the company became sponsor of the Schell's Stage at Schilling Amphitheater when Heritage Square was replaced with West End Market. A representative from August Schell Brewing Co. did not respond to email requests for a comment. Falcon Heights adds paid parking zones for Minnesota State Fair

The Falcon Heights City Council voted Wednesday to create temporary paid parking zones during the Minnesota State Fair. The pay-by-mobile parking program will turn select city streets east of Snelling Avenue into paid parking zones, providing around 1,000 parking spots near the Fairgrounds, for a fee, according to a news release from the city. The program, which has a one-year agreement with ParkMobile, will charge a flat fee of $25 per day for vehicles to park between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. during the 12 days of the Fair. As part of the program, the city will also hire trained ambassadors to give directions, answer questions and enforce parking. The affected streets north of Larpenteur Avenue include: Asbury, Arona, Simpson, Pascal, Holton, Albert, Ruggles and Crawford. Affected avenues to the south of Larpenteur include: California, Idaho and Iowa. 'Pay-by-mobile parking provides an excellent solution to promote safety for our Falcon Heights residents and the hundreds of thousands of visitors we welcome to our city during the Minnesota State Fair,' said Falcon Heights Mayor Randy Gustafson in the release. If you're determined to find free parking and your go-to street now has a fee, Falcon Heights City Administrator Jack Linehan suggests trying the free park-and-ride options the Minnesota State Fair offers. As for residents who live on streets that are designated as a parking zone, they will receive one free parking pass delivered by mail starting in July with the option to request additional passes. The city estimates around 600 properties will be eligible for these passes. Attendees will be able to pay online via website, app or automated pay-by-phone line and enforcement will be tied to the vehicle's license plate. Should drivers fail to pay, parking violations will set them back $100 from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15, which is double the normal rate of $50, Linehan said. The city will use its proceeds to support the ambassador program, cover fair costs and invest in its roads and infrastructure. 'We heard from our residents during this process on how we could improve the plan, and we believe the version adopted by the City Council will meet the needs of our community,' Gustafson said in the release. Temporary parking zone signs will be installed before the start of the Fair and removed after Labor Day.

The Turtles will bring '60s pop back to the State Fair Grandstand this summer

The Turtles are bringing their catchy '60s pop back to the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand for the third straight year as part of its Happy Together 2025 tour. On Aug. 25, the "She'd Rather Be With Me" group returns to the fairgrounds with Jay and the Americans, The Vogues, and the Cowsills, all of whom joined them last year. This year, they'll bring along a pair of acts that weren't part of last year's throwback show. Little Anthony and Gary Puckett & the Union Gap will also be on the bill. Though, both groups performed as part of The Turtles' Happy Together Tour in 2023 when it came to the Grandstand. It's a six-band lineup that combines for 55 Billboard Top-40 hits across their decades of performing. In total, this will be the 10th time The Turtles have been part of a Grandstand lineup. They first appeared on the stage in 1998 and then went on a six-year run starting in 2011. After a short break, they've again become a staple, with the 2025 performance marking their third straight year of bringing California pop to the state in late August. Tickets for what's dubbed the Happy Together Tour 2025 go on sale Friday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m., with standard reserved seating tickets starting at $33. Party Deck tickets start at $66. It's the fourth show announced for the 2025 Grandstand, following announcements for Old Dominion (Aug. 21), Melissa Etheridge and Indigo Girls (Aug. 24), and Def Leppard (Aug. 26).
