Restrooms at petrol stations are not the most pleasant places – more so if unsavoury people are around. So is it true that a peeping Tom has been caught in Penang for preying on unsuspecting women? Verdict: TRUE Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris said a suspect was arrested for peeping into the women's toilet of a petrol station. He said a police report was made and they managed to arrest a suspect. "An investigation paper was open under Section 509 of Penal Code /Section 14 Minor Offences Act 1955," he said in a statement on Friday (May 30). ACP Helmi said they would apply for a remand order at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court on May 31. He added that police also learnt about a viral video showing a man entering a women's toilet. He said police investigations revealed that the incident happened at 6.21am on May 5 at a gas station in Seberang Jaya.

Man nabbed for peeping inside women's toilet at petrol station
SEBERANG JAYA: A man has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video showing him allegedly entering and peeping into a women's toilet at a petrol station in Seberang Jaya here. Police came across a 27-second video of the alleged incident, uploaded to the social media platform X by user @kamaghul_deghaman, today. Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris said checks showed the incident occurred about 6.21am on May 5. "We have received a report regarding the incident and have since opened an investigation paper under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. "The suspect has been arrested, and a remand application would be filed at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate's court tomorrow," he said in a statement. Section 509 of the Penal Code addresses the crime of insulting the modesty of any person. Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 deals with using indecent, threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behavior that is likely to cause a breach of peace. This includes situations where there is an intent to provoke such a breach, or where a breach is likely to occur. Helmi urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation that could disrupt public order.

Cops detain security guard over alleged extortion in hospital car park
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have classified as extortion, a parking incident involving a security guard and a woman that went viral on social media at a hospital in Selangor on Dec 23 last year. Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said in the 4 pm incident, the victim, a local woman, claimed that the security guard had extorted RM50 cash belonging to her mother, allegedly stemming from a parking dispute on the hospital grounds. 'A 55-second video of the incident, uploaded by a TikTok user on May 19, sparked various reactions and outrage from the public regarding the security guard's behaviour,' he said in a statement. The local security guard allegedly took advantage of visitors parking in unauthorised spots by demanding money and making harsh threats. He added that the 31-year-old victim filed a police report on May 19 at about 11.27 pm. 'Following the report, the 28-year-old security guard was arrested on the same day and is now remanded for two days until tomorrow to assist in the investigation,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. Naazron urged those with information on this incident to contact Insp Ghazali Zulkifli at 016-9140758 or the nearest police station.

KAJANG: Police have arrested a hospital security guard after a viral video allegedly showed her extorting RM50 from a visitor — an incident that has triggered widespread outrage on social media. Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yudof said the 55-second clip, uploaded to the TikTok account @Allyszackry, began circulating on May 19. The video reportedly shows a female security guard demanding RM50 from a visitor outside a hospital in Selangor, believed to be compensation over a parking dispute. The incident occurred on Dec 23, 2024, at 4pm. "In the video, the guard is seen and heard allegedly using threatening and inappropriate language, which led to accusations of misconduct and extortion," he said. Naazron said a 31-year-old local woman lodged a police report at 11.27pm on May 19. "Acting on the report, police arrested a 28-year-old local woman who works as a security guard. "She was remanded for two days from May 19 to assist investigations," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years' jail, a fine, whipping, or any combination of the three. Investigations are also being conducted under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which provides for a fine of up to RM100 upon conviction.
