Roger Dubuis Raises the Bar with Excalibur Spider Flyback

Roger Dubuis has unveiled the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph, a new high-end timepiece blending traditional watchmaking with technical innovation. Certified by the Geneva Seal, the watch features an integrated movement with a vertical clutch and column wheel, showcasing both precision and craftsmanship. A standout feature of this timepiece is the inclusion of a rotating minute counter, designed at a unique 120° angle, and patent-pending innovations such as the Second Braking System and the cryptodate. These developments enhance both the functionality and visual appeal, offering a dynamic display that changes as the chronograph operates. The dial itself, inspired by Roger Dubuis' expertise in skeleton watchmaking, reveals multiple layers that provide depth and expressivity, showcasing the intricate mechanics beneath. At the heart of the watch lies the RD780 calibre, a fully integrated traditional chronograph movement designed from the ground up to both tell and measure time. One of its most visually prominent features is the column wheel positioned at six o'clock. Beyond its technical role, the column wheel enhances the tactile experience of the pushers, making their operation smoother and more responsive. Crafted from stainless steel with a demanding poli zinc finish, it stands out as a mechanical work of art. The vertical clutch further reinforces both tradition and performance, echoing the mechanics of gear changes in motor cars. Roger Dubuis has layered this movement with contemporary invention. At 3 o'clock, the Rotating Minute Counter (RMC) introduces a patent-pending display in an isotoxal shape. Its tripartite hand sweeps across oversized red numerals with striking clarity, delivering both a functional readout and a captivating visual spectacle whenever the chronograph is activated. Complementing this is the Second Braking System (SBS), another patent-pending advancement. Integrated within the vertical clutch, it stabilises the chronograph seconds hand, eliminating flicker and ensuring precise readability even under demanding use. Visual expressivity is further heightened by the tilted balance wheel at nine o'clock. Set at a 12° angle, it offers clear visibility and delivers a performance akin to that of a tourbillon. Diamond-coated silicon escapement components provide anti-magnetic protection, ensuring lasting precision. The watch's 45mm skeletonised case is crafted in 18K pink gold and features skeletonised pushers, blending luxurious materials with technical flair. A black rubber strap with a Quick Release system adds sporty practicality and comfort. The dial's symmetrical architecture invites the wearer to explore several layers of moving parts, creating a hypnotic, almost living display of mechanical harmony. On the reverse, the rotor is shaped like the rim of a supercar wheel, with five arms accentuated by the sharp lines that are signature to Roger Dubuis. The Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph is a limited edition, with only 88 pieces produced—a nod to Roger Dubuis' lucky number, which is discreetly featured on the tachymeter scale. Offering a 72-hour power reserve and meeting the rigorous Poinçon de Genève standards, each watch consists of 333 meticulously finished components, using 16 distinct decorative techniques. The result is a perfect balance of athletic spirit and horological refinement.

A Minute with Drexel: The heart of Memorial Day

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) – While Memorial Day may conjure up images of crowded beaches, parades, and patriotic picnics, the holiday has a more meaningful reason for being observed. News 5's Drexel Gilbert is thinking about that very important reason, and of how we can all honor the sacrifices that have been made in the name of freedom. Here's this week's Minute with Drexel: Hey, y'all! I hope you are having a nice Memorial Day weekend! Lots of us have different reasons for observing Memorial Day. Here on the northern Gulf Coast, Memorial Day is the official start of summer! And for others, it's a time for the beach, or backyard picnics, or… in the case of my family… celebrating a wedding! But, the true meaning of Memorial Day is much more significant. It's a day set aside to honor the men and women who died in service to our country. Across the United States, graves are decorated, flags are flown, memorials are visited and people far and wide say a whispered 'thank you' to the brave ones who lost their lives working to preserve our freedoms. So… how are you celebrating Memorial Day this year? As I've suggested to you in years past, perhaps we can remember and honor those who died in service by offering our own service. We don't have to enlist in the military to do that. We can honor those who fought and died for peace and safety by simply becoming better humans. We can choose to sow peace instead of discord… starting in our families, our neighborhoods, our communities, and the workplace. We can pray, as did St. Francis of Assisi… 'Lord make ME an instrument of your peace.' We can smile more and gripe less. We can stop making catty- and even hateful- comments on social media… I mean, what good comes of that anyway? We can be kind instead of self-centered. We can give, instead of reaching for more. We can look for those who are hurting, and try to help them heal. Just a few ideas. I'm sure you can come up with more! To all the heroes whose names and lives will be remembered this Memorial Day… thank you. May those of us who follow behind you work hard to be better and live better in memory and honor of your service and your sacrifice. And that's your Minute with Drexel.
