Beard, husky voice: How a woman posed as man to steal cash, jewellery worth Rs 1.5 crore from relative's house

The Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) police in Maharashtra Tuesday arrested a 27-year-old woman who allegedly donned a fake beard and a mask to look like a man and stole cash and valuables worth Rs 1.5 crore from a relative's house. Based on CCTV footage, the MBVV crime branch arrested Jyoti Bhanushali, a Gujarat resident. An officer said Jyoti, dressed as a man with a beard, went to the residence of her relatives in Vasari-Virar Monday, knowing that only her cousin's father-in-law, Uddhav Bhanushali, would be at the house. When she rang the bell, Uddhav opened the door, said the police. The woman, who had trained to speak in a huskier voice, spoke in Kutchi, a Gujarati dialect, and said she needed to use the washroom urgently, as per the police. Uddhav allowed her in and after going to the washroom, she allegedly told him that there was some leakage in the bathroom. When Uddhav went inside, she allegedly locked the door from the outside and fled with cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore. It was only when his family members came home and unlocked Uddhav that the crime came to light. The family then approached the local police station, and the police filed an FIR. The crime branch team began reviewing the CCTV footage and identified a person with the stolen goods at Vasai railway station. While Uddhav identified the person whom he thought was a man, on closer scrutiny of the footage, his sister-in-law identified the person as Jyoti. The police team then began chasing her and found that she had taken a train to her hometown in Gujarat. Eventually, the crime branch team managed to nab her from Gujarat, where she was placed under arrest and brought to the city. An officer said that during questioning, she told them that her family had recently suffered losses. She said she had seen her cousin wearing jewellery at a family function and decided to hatch the plan to rob her.

MNS rally permission denied

The Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police is still facing repercussions for initially not allowing MNS party workers to carry out a protest march and detaining them, with the zonal DCP of the area being transferred. This comes days after the MBVV Police Commissioner too was transferred a day after the protests finally took place. The CM had then said he would check why permission had not been given for the rally. As per a government order issued on Monday, DCP (zone 1) of MBVV, Prakash Gaikwad, was transferred to Nagpur State Intelligence Department. The Mira Bhayandar area where the rally eventually took place comes under zonal DCP Gaikwad. The order cited that the transfer had been carried out due to administrative reasons. Last Monday, when the rally was to take place, CM Devendra Fadnavis had initially said he had been informed by the MBVV Police Commissioner that the permission was denied as protestors comprising primarily of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Shiv Sena (UBT) party workers and Marathi Ekikaran Samiti activists had refused to budge on the route they wanted to take. However, by late evening, after the protests gathered momentum and was eventually allowed to go ahead, Fadnavis checked with senior officers as to why permission was not given to the protestors, hinting towards taking action against if the situation had not been handled well. In an order issued by the Maharashtra Home Department on Tuesday, the commissioner was transferred to the DGP office as IG (Administration) and Kaushik, who was with the Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), was named the new MBVV police commissioner. Soon after protestors had gathered at Mira Road and were detained by the police on Monday, many complained that on July 3, a protest was carried out by traders protesting a local trader being slapped by MNS party workers over the issue of Marathi. When they asked permission for a 'counter protest', the permission had been denied. Senior MBVV officers, however, had clarified that no permission had been given to the earlier rally as well and an FIR had been registered against the traders for carrying out the protest march without permission.

2 constables with MBVV arrested for abetting suicide of Nalasopara builder

VASAI: Two constables attached with the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) commissionerate were arrested by the Achole cops (Nalasopara) on Wednesday early morning under charges of abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation. They were sent to five days of police remand after they were produced in the Vasai court on Wednesday afternoon. They were allegedly pressuring a Nalasopara developer to vacate a project he was working on, in which the cops had financed him. In the FIR, daughter of the deceased, mentioned that her father, Jayprakash Chauhan who was a developer by profession, was developing a property Om Shree Ji Cooperative Housing Society since 2015 in Nalasopara east and had constructed six floors and the work was not going ahead due to funds crunch. Hence, Chauhan took finance from these two cops in January of around four to five lakhs and then in April of around 20 - 25 lakhs. She claimed that the finance taken was around 33 lakhs from these constables Rajesh Mahajan and Shyam Shinde. In the second week of June, while having food with the family Chauhan mentioned that Mahajan and Shinde were pressuring him and had threatened him to leave the project as they have already decided who will continue this project and he was tensed. Again after a week he revealed that these cops had threatened him to book him in a false case and apply a series of BNS sections which will force him to rot in the jail. He also mentioned that these two cops were promised a couple of flats against their finance of 33 lakhs but now wanted the whole project. Post this, Chauhan switched off his cell phone due to fear and left his home and started living at a different flat. It was on the night of June 30 around 9:30 that things went out of hand when a broker, Lala Lajpat, who is the third accused in this case, reached his house, threatened him, and told him to leave the project. Next day when he wasn't reachable , the family went to the flat he was staying, and found him hanging from the ceiling. He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. This is when the family went to take Chauhans Aadhaar card from his car, that they found his suicide note mentioning names of Mahajan and Shyam Shinde. The Achole cops didn't wait for a moment and first filed an accidental death report (ADR) on Tuesday late night and then filed the FIR at 5 in the morning and arrested both the cops by taking them into custody. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Following their court appearance in Vasai on Wednesday afternoon, they were remanded to police custody for five days. The arrests stemmed from allegations of pressuring a Nalasopara developer to abandon his ongoing project, which they had financially backed. According to the FIR, the victim's daughter stated that her father, Jayprakash Chauhan, had been working on Om Shree Ji Cooperative Housing Society since 2015 in Nalasopara East. After completing six floors, the project stalled due to financial constraints. Chauhan subsequently borrowed from the two constables —about Rs 33 lakh in Jan and April from constables Rajesh Mahajan and Shyam Shinde. During a family meal in the second week of June, Chauhan disclosed that Mahajan and Shinde were pressuring him to abandon the project, having already selected someone else to take over. A week later, he revealed their threats to file false charges that could lead to his imprisonment. Despite promising the constables several flats against their Rs 33 lakh investment, they now demanded the entire project. Frightened, Chauhan turned off his mobile phone and relocated to a different flat. On June 30 around 9:30 at night, the situation escalated when broker Lala Lajpat, the third accused, visited his residence and issued further threats to abandon the project. The Achole cops first filed an accidental death report (ADR) on Tuesday late night and then filed the FIR at 5 in the morning. The cops were then arrested.

He also demanded 60 traffic wardens from NHAI, which have been missing in action when required, at the earliest.
