Irish tourist Miriam Matthews meets Irish golf legend Darren Clarke at Calgary golf tournament
Former British Open champion Darren Clarke chats with Irish tourist Miriam Matthews at Calgary's Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club Thursday. Matthews is volunteering at the Rogers Charity Classic, which Clarke is competing in.
An Irish tourist who just happens to be an avid golfer is having a dream visit to Calgary.
On a whim, Miriam Matthews volunteered to work the Rogers Charity Classic and got to meet one of the biggest golfers from back home.
Darren Clarke is a past winner of the British Open and also from Northern Ireland. Matthews, a huge golf fan, lives in the south and was thrilled to meet Clarke as she marshalled the ninth hole at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club this week.

It's a job she signed up for to fill some time while house-and-dog-sitting in Calgary.
'(People ask) are you usually this spontaneous? If you ask my friends, they'd say yes I am!' Matthews said.
Clarke posed for a selfie with Matthews while the two commiserated about the chilly Thursday morning weather, saying it was just as cold as it was back home.
Matthews was responsible for holding up signs on the ninth tee requesting silence from the gallery that said, 'Quiet, Eh!'
