'Fans go crazy for my biceps' - Norwich new-boy Topic
New Norwich City signing Mirko Topic said his intimidating physique has already impressed Canaries fans. The 24-year-old Serbian midfielder has four international caps and joined from Portuguese side Famalicao. Topic told BBC Radio Norfolk that supporters have reacted to a social media post published by the club. "After the club posted on Instagram, fans were getting crazy about my biceps and about my physicality. "They have been waiting for a 'number six' like me. I'm ready for that and can't wait for the Championship to start," he added. Topic began his professional career at hometown club Vojvodina in Serbia and he said his style of play will suit English football. "I'm very good for this league, I believe. I will adapt very quickly and I can't wait to feel the atmosphere at the games, to fight, to run. I know everything here is high intensity." Norwich supporters have been calling for the club to sign a defensive midfielder for some time. Despite finishing 13th during the 2024-25 Championship campaign, the team were second-highest scorers behind title winners Leeds United. It was a different story at the other end of the pitch though, conceding 68 goals and producing defensive displays littered with individual errors. Former Bristol City head coach Liam Manning was brought in to replace Dane Johannes Hoff Thorup, who was sacked in April. Norwich have made 11 signings this summer and there is an abundance of central midfield options, including former Manchester City player Jacob Wright. The 19-year-old joined following a successful loan spell during the 2024-25 campaign. Topic will compete for a place in that midfield and said he came to Norwich to fulfill a dream of one day playing in the Premier League. "I believe it's one step forward and one step away from the Premier League. "In the Championship it's not only long balls and running, teams try to play as well. It's very competitive, you can win against everyone and also you can lose. "Norwich want to be promoted this season and that is the highest ambition you can have." Topic said he is already feeling comfortable in a crowded Norwich dressing room. "The atmosphere is very nice. Vladan (Kovacevic) and Jakov (Medic) have helped me a lot, and Ante (Crnac) as well because they are Balkans guys. "We speak the same languages and that makes it easier for me to adapt quickly. "New players, new coach, maybe we will need time to connect but I think we will do it quickly." Norwich begin their Championship campaign on Saturday at home to Millwall (15:00 BST).
