Lionel Messi to Como? Club president sets the record straight

Lionel Messi The rumor was sparked five days ago by Cesc Fabregas, head coach of Como. Could we really see Lionel Messi donning the colors of the Italian club? The club's top executive has quickly shut down the speculation. A few days ago, Cesc Fabregas inadvertently set off wild rumors about a possible move for Lionel Messi to Como. The Spanish tactician and former World Cup winner's teammate notably stated that 'you should never say never.' However, on Sunday evening, club president Mirwan Suwarso completely dismissed the rumor. 'For me, Messi is not a dream—it's impossible,' he told Sky Sport after his team's victory over Ajax in the Como Cup final (3-0).

Como chief speaks out on Álvaro Morata chase

Como president Mirwan Suwarso has this weekend opened up on the club's ongoing pursuit of Spanish international Álvaro Morata. The name of frontman Morata has emerged as an altogether prominent one in the headlines across Italy over recent weeks. This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the experienced frontman has made his way to the very top of the summer transfer wishlist at the aforementioned Como. Talks, in turn, have long been kicked into gear between the brass at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, and their counterparts at AC Milan, Morata's parent club. Speaking during an exchange with the media on Sunday, the subject of the 32-year-old's potential arrival was therefore put to the aforementioned Mirwan Suwarso. And in his response, Como's president went on to confirm that his side are now simply waiting for Milan and Galatasaray – where Morata is currently on loan – to finalise the termination of their agreement: 'Álvaro Morata deal is ready. He has agreed on terms and we've agreed on every detail with AC Milan. We just wait on Galatasaray to speak to AC Milan. We did our job.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Como patron Suwarso on Champions League ambition, Fabregas and Messi dream

Como patron Mirwan Suwarso feels the club is on a 'natural process' towards the Champions League with Cesc Fabregas and admits Lionel Messi would be 'a dream' signing. The team went bankrupt in 2017 and had to start from scratch in Serie D, then was taken over by SENT Entertainment and Djarum in April 2019. They invested heavily and helped Como move all the way up to the top flight after a 21-year absence, securing mid-table comfort in their debut campaign. The ambition doesn't stop here, as the Lariani are targeting even more prestigious objectives, like qualifying for the Champions League. (Photo by) 'It is not an obsession, we want it to be a natural process,' Como chief Suwarso told La Stampa newspaper via Tuttomercatoweb. 'Atalanta and Bologna set the example, and in the long run we will reduce our investment, making sure it is a sustainable project. 'In Italy you have three different leagues in one: the six best teams, those in mid-table and the others at the bottom.' Among the signs of Como's strength was the ability to resist pressure from Inter and Bundesliga clubs to keep hold of coach Fabregas. 'My rapport with Cesc is excellent, we believed straight away in his vision and status as a great coach. We asked him to improve us not only on the field, but also in terms of mentality. He helped define our identity. 'There were no meetings in June, just a lot of rumours that we laughed off. He spoke to other clubs, but it was just a routine conversation.' (Photo by) Como have made it a habit of inviting big stars into the stands to watch their games, and the most recent figures spotted at the Stadio Sinigaglia were Messi's family. This and the long-standing friendship between Fabregas and his former Barcelona teammate pointed towards a possible shock Serie A move for the Argentine legend, who is in MLS with Inter Miami FC. 'The Messi family were guests of Fabregas and his wife. It would be a dream for him to come here, but why would he leave behind all the money he is earning now? Besides, we have not had any contact with him,' concluded Suwarso.

Inter Milan ‘Haven't Given Up' On Cesc Fabregas Despite Como President's Rebuff

Inter Milan 'Haven't Given Up' On Cesc Fabregas Despite Como President's Rebuff Inter Milan still 'haven't given up' on appointing Cesc Fabregas as coach despite the apparently firm rebuff of Como President Mirwan Suwarso. This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908. Advertisement Como number one Mirwan Suwarso directly stated that his club have 'directly communicated' their refusal to Inter. Naturally, that seems like a hammer blow for the Nerazzurri's attempts to snap up the former Arsenal midfielder. (Photo by) However, reports Sky, that does not mean that Inter's interest in Cesc Fabregas has died. Naturally, the comments by Suwarso certainly constitute a setback. And if the Lariani simply dig in their heels, then the Nerazzurri will hardly be able to get Fabregas. However, reports Sky Sport Italia, behind the scenes Inter haven't quite given up. Advertisement The Nerazzurri still consider Fabregas to be their top target to replace Simone Inzaghi as coach. Therefore, Inter's plan is to spend the coming hours sounding out whether there is any chance of Como wavering despite their President's seemingly unequivocal comments.
