Workshops Launched to Teach Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics

Youth workshops in Cairo will cover the development of ancient Egyptian scripts, grammar, and royal symbols, with expert-led training starting August 7th at Taiba Academy. Aug 06, 2025 The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the launch of a new training course focused on ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic writing, set to begin on August 7th at Taiba Academy on the Nile Corniche. The initiative is being organised in collaboration with Misr El Kheir Foundation and the Yaru Egyptian Civilization Foundation. The course is aimed at introducing young participants to the structure and history of the ancient Egyptian language. Instruction will be led by specialists in ancient Egyptian civilization and will explore the development of writing systems, from their earliest forms through to later scripts such as hieratic, demotic and Coptic. Participants will learn about the function and context of each script, as well as the tools and surfaces used for writing, including papyrus, stone, tomb walls, and pottery shards. Sessions will also address the decipherment of hieroglyphics, with references to the Rosetta Stone, the work of Jean-François Champollion, and materials held by the British Museum. In addition to the alphabet and numerical systems, the programme will introduce sentence structures, grammatical forms, pronouns, prepositions, negation, and genitive constructions. Vocabulary and word formation will be linked to both ancient and modern Egyptian usage. Other topics include the writing of city and capital names, royal titles, and the use of cartouches. Instruction will also cover royal crowns, sacred symbols, religious rites, and offering formulas found in ancient Egyptian texts.

QNET and Misr El Kheir launch FinGreen to boost financial literacy in Egypt

CAIRO, Egypt – QNET, a lifestyle and wellness direct-selling company, has announced a strategic partnership with Misr El Kheir Foundation (MEK) to launch FinGreen, its award-winning financial literacy program, in Egypt. FinGreen program aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals Agenda to provide essential skills and proper developmental training for all. It reflects both organizations' commitment to driving social impact through education and empowerment. Powered by a United Nations co-designed curriculum, this groundbreaking initiative marks FinGreen's first expansion into the Middle East and North Africa region, aiming to equip 500 Egyptians across 10 governorates with essential financial skills. Originally launched in Turkey and Nigeria in 2022 and expanded to Ghana in 2023, FinGreen promotes financial literacy and inclusion by providing underserved communities—particularly youth and women—with practical education and sustainable money management skills. To date, over 3,100 participants have benefited from the program. As it rolls out across 10 governorates, Egypt's key administrative regions, FinGreen is set to drive meaningful change, not only in participants' lives but also in support of Egypt's broader economic growth. Through structured, hands-on training sessions, participants will develop essential financial management skills and responsible financial behaviours, laying a strong foundation for lasting personal and professional stability. Omar Taaddi, Regional General Manager of QNET, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating: 'We are proud to bring FinGreen to Egypt through this impactful partnership with MEK. FinGreen is more than a financial literacy program; it's a powerful step toward financial empowerment, inclusive access, and long-term resilience. In a country where nearly 70% (*) of adults are either financially excluded or informally served, programs like FinGreen are critical to driving real change. Anchored in community engagement, strategic collaboration, and measurable impact, the program reflects our shared commitment to equipping individuals with the tools they need to thrive. By combining the United Nations' globally recognised curriculum with MEK's trusted grassroots presence, we're delivering an internationally credible and locally impactful program.' MEK's extensive community networks and established trust within Egyptian society provide the essential foundation for the program's success. The foundation's deep understanding of local needs and proven track record in community outreach ensure that the financial literacy training reaches those who need it most. Participants will be organized into manageable cohorts, with approximately 50 individuals per governorate, allowing for personalized attention and meaningful engagement throughout the learning process. Dr. Ali Fathy, Head of the Integrated Development Sector at MEK, stated: 'FinGreen aligns with our mission to empower communities with practical tools to achieve financial independence and build a better future. At MEK, we believe that financial literacy is not just about managing money; it's about creating opportunities, building confidence, and fostering economic independence.'

Egypt launches initiative to renovate 80,000 homes in rural villages

Egypt has launched a corporate social responsibility initiative to renovate and upgrade 80,661 homes for vulnerable families in villages targeted by the first phase of the presidential 'Decent Life' initiative. The 'Decent Housing for a Decent Life' programme was launched at an event attended by senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar. The initiative aims to unite the efforts of the government, private sector companies, banks, and civil society organisations to improve housing conditions in 1,477 villages across 20 governorates. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Misr El Kheir Foundation, the Orman Association, and the Hayah Karima Foundation. Manal Awad, the minister of local development, said the government seeks to build a broad partnership to finance the project. 'The government is seeking to build a broad partnership with banks and companies within the framework of their social responsibilities, and with civil society organisations, to upgrade and develop the homes of 80,661 families,' she said. The initiative has already raised EGP 377m in donations from the government, civil society, and the private sector, announced Maya Morsy, the minister of social solidarity, during a fundraising drive at the launch event. Awad described the parent 'Decent Life' initiative, launched by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in 2019, as 'an unprecedented qualitative shift in the history of the Egyptian countryside.' She stated that the first phase of the 'Decent Life' initiative is 90% complete, with 27,334 projects implemented at a cost of EGP 360 billion, serving 18 million citizens. The projects include developing infrastructure such as water, sanitation, electricity, and roads, as well as improving social services like schools and hospitals. The new 'Decent Housing' initiative aims to ensure that families in dilapidated homes can fully benefit from the state's large-scale infrastructure investments. A detailed survey was conducted by the ministries of local development and social solidarity, in partnership with the civil society organisations, to identify the families in need. A steering committee chaired by Mohamed Farid Hegazy, a presidential advisor for the 'Decent Life' initiative, will oversee the programme's implementation. Awad outlined a framework for governance and quality assurance, which includes a joint financial account for the three implementing foundations, oversight from the Ministry of Social Solidarity, and quality control checks by engineering committees. This will ensure transparency and efficiency in the use of funds. The minister detailed a clear division of roles: The private sector and banks: Provide funding through their corporate social responsibility budgets.
