Mission Vidyashakti to boost learning among middle school students

Hubballi: A new education initiative titled 'Mission Vidyashakti' will soon be launched in Dharwad district to enhance academic outcomes for students in classes 6 to 8. Following the success of 'Mission Vidyakashi' for SSLC students, this scheme aims to improve learning quality and push the district into the top 10 in statewide rankings over the next two to three years. The district administration launched the 'Mission Vidyakashi' programme last year. Despite not getting the expected results in the examination, the district secured 18th position, moving up four places from the previous time. It was limited to only 10th class students. However, keeping in mind the students of 6th, 7th, and 8th classes, the 'Mission Vidyashakti' scheme was formulated in collaboration with IIT and IIIT. Under this scheme, students are taught online using smart classes in schools. SM Hudedamani, deputy project coordinator Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan at the DDPI office, said that under this scheme, subjects like Mathematics, Science, and English, which are difficult for students and which most students fail in the exams, will be taught. Three students from the region-Aqueel Ahmed Nadaf from Vijayapura, Roopa Channagouda Patil from Belagavi and Shagufta Anjum from Sirsi- have made Belagavi division proud by emerging the state toppers, securing 625 out of 625. Uttara Kannada district, which was in the fifth position in 2024, has risen to third position with a passing percentage of 83.1%. Sirsi, which was in 8th position, has risen to 7th place. Haveri has moved from 15th to 13th place. Dharwad, hailed as the education hub, has risen to 18th position from 22nd, while Belagavi has gone up from 29th to 25th position. On the flip side, the passing percentage in all these districts has come down drastically. Uttara Kannada, which had recorded 88.6% in 2024, has now registered a passing of 83.1%. Sirsi's passing has come down from 84.6% to 80.4%. Haveri's passing has come down from 75.8% to 69%. The passing in Dharwad, where the department of education had launched 'Mission Vidyakashi', has come down to 67.6% from last year's 72.6%. Dharwad had registered a passing of 86% in 2023. Similarly, in Belagavi, passing has come down from 64.9% to 62.1%. Chikodi, which was in 25th place with a passing of 69.8% last year, has come down to 26th position with 62.1% passing, while Bagalkot's has come down from 13th (77.1%) to 16th (68.2%) place. Mixed bag for Vijayapura This year's result has left Vijayapura district with mixed feelings. While the district is elated over one of its students-Aqeel Ahmed Nadaf - emerged the topper to the state- the sharp dip in passing percentage from 79.8% in 2024 to 49.5% this year has come as a rude shock. The district was in 11th place last year but now has come down to 34th. Kalyana Karnataka no different The passing percentage in Kalyana Karnataka except Vijayanagara district has come down. While Vijayanagara registered 67.6%, the passing percentages in Bidar (53.2%), Yadgir (51.6%), Raichur (52%), Koppal (57.3%), Ballari (60.2%) and Kalaburagi (42.4%) have dipped when compared to that of last year. Ballari is in 29th place, followed by Koppal (30th), Bidar (31st), Raihcur (32nd), Yadgir (33rd) and Kalaburagi (35th). The sharp decline in passing percentage, according to teachers and officers is due to the installation of CCTVs in all examination centres and live webcasting of the examination process.
