NY Giants Star Issued Jaxson Dart an NFL Reality Check
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Since Jaxson Dart hasn't suited up for his first NFL game yet, the rookie can't claim his first "welcome to the league" moment. However, with a handful of minicamp practices in the bag, the rookie quarterback can say he's quickly getting a reality check, and it's all thanks to the two-time Pro Bowler, Brian Burns. "I don't think I've had, like, my full experience of kind of seeing that, but I've had a little experience with Brian Burns chasing me," Dart said, according to GiantsWire, discussing the speed of the game at the NFL level. "He had a read option play and just, you know, his ability to come back and chase me down was kind of crazy." Jaxson Dart #2 of the Mississippi Rebels celebrates after being Penn State Nittany Lions during the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on December 30, 2023 in Atlanta, player in Dart's position would truly enter the big league and expect the game to be at the same speed as the college level, but it's clearly not taking long for Dart to find out just how much of a difference there is. Burns is a good test for a young guy like Dart. After collecting three seasons of NCAA experience at Florida State, the linebacker entered the NFL as the 16th overall pick in the 2019 Draft. He spent all but one of his first six seasons playing for the Carolina Panthers. In Carolina, Burns played 80 games with 67 of those matchups as a starter. He registered nearly 250 tackles and produced 46 sacks over that time. During the 2021 and 2022 NFL seasons, Burns was voted into the league's Pro Bowl game. During the 2023 season, which served as his final in Carolina, Burns picked up 50 tackles and eight sacks. Carolina wanted Burns on the franchise tag. They ended up trading him to the Giants eight days after tagging him. New York rewarded Burns with a five-year deal. After getting paid the big bucks, the veteran appeared in 17 games in 2024. He racked up another 8.5 sacks and 71 tackles. The Giants hope that Burns can continue to keep up his high level of play on game days and in practice, where he's challenging a youngster like Dart. Following a four-season run in the NCAA, which included one season with USC and the rest at Ole Miss, Dart enters the New York market with expectations of eventually taking over as the franchise quarterback of the Giants. Since Dart trails two seasoned veterans on the depth chart, offseason practices and the preseason will be critical to his development this year. Although the Giants are still building to reach contender status in the NFC, they have plenty of solid veterans around to help Dart in his early development. Burns' NFL reality check will be one valuable lesson as New York prepares for the final phase of minicamp and training camp soon.

New York Giants Trade Back Into First Round to Select Franchise QB
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Giants pulled off the second major trade of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, trading back into the first round and passing on Shedeur Sanders to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. The Giants sent the No. 34 pick in Round 2, as well as the No. 99 pick in Round 3, and a 2026 third-rounder to the Houston Texans in exchange for the No. 25 pick. And now Brian Daboll has his future quarterback, who has a very similar skill set to Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen, at least on paper. Mississippi Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart (2) throws the ball against the Florida Gators during the first half at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Matt Pendleton-Imagn Images Last season with the Rebels, Dart was a machine, completing 69.3 percent of his passes for 4,279 yards an 29 touchdowns with six interceptions. He also led the NCAA with a 180.7 QB rating, and 11.53 adjusted yards gained per attempt. He averaged 15.5 yards per completion, 329.2 yards per fame, and thew touchdowns on 7.3 percent of his passes. He also became the all-time leading passer in the history of Ole Miss football, passing the likes of Eli and Archie Manning in the process, while keeping the Rebels in the hunt for the College Football Playoff for most of the season. And that was just through the air. Dart was also an elite threat running the ball, carrying it 124 times for 495 yards and three scores and displaying unparalleled toughness for a quarterback. There are some knocks against Dart, mostly with his decision making through the air and his willingness to take big hits in the run game. Nevertheless, he's a heck of a competitor, and could help set the culture for the Giants. As for Sanders, many experts such as Mel Kiper Jr., believe this could spell disaster for his draft stock, as it already has, and cause a fall from the first round. In the event that happens, Sanders would likely have two options. First, he would have to hope another team wants to trade up for him in Round 1 like the Browns, or hope that another team that doesn't have a huge QB need wants to take a chance on him. Meanwhile, the Giants hit a major home run on Thursday night, not only getting their future quarterback, but also landing Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick in Round 1, and getting a generation pass rusher in the process.

2025 Dynasty Rookie Rankings: Tre Harris
OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - SEPTEMBER 28: Tre Harris #9 of the Mississippi Rebels carries the ball during ... More the game against the Kentucky Wildcats at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on September 28, 2024 in Oxford, Mississippi. (Photo by) As of late, Tre Harris is a name that's starting to rise up a lot of 2025 dynasty rookie rankings. In a recent mock draft by Fantasy Points, Harris was selected at the 1.05 in a Superflex rookie draft. For reference, FantasyPros average rank for Harris is 14.6. There's certainly a lot to be excited about. From an advanced metric perspective, Harris grades out very well, especially in his yards per route run. Below, we'll be diving into Harris's profile and placing him in my 2025 rookie rankings. From a box score perspective, Harris looks great. Harris broke out at Louisiana Tech, catching 65 passes for 935 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore. With questions surrounding his level of competition, Harris would transfer to Ole Miss for his final two seasons. In his true senior season, Harris would dominate in the SEC, catching 54 passes for 985 yards and seven touchdowns. With one more year of eligibility, Harris would stay for his fifth year, where he unfortunately suffered a groin injury. Harris would only play in eight games on the year but was fantastic in them. In just a small sample size, Harris had 60 catches for 1,030 yards and seven touchdowns. From an efficiency perspective, Harris was first in yards per route run with a mark of 3.0. As researched in the past, the metric is seen to be very predictive of future success. NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - SEPTEMBER 09: Tre Harris #9 of the Mississippi Rebels celebrates a ... More touchdown during the first half against the Tulane Green Wave at Yulman Stadium on September 09, 2023 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by) Right now, I expect Harris to be a mid-second round in the 2025 NFL Draft. At 6' 2'' and 205 lbs, Harris has cemented himself as one of the top outside receivers in this class. Typically, these types of players tend to go higher than slot receivers in the draft. NFL Mock Draft Database agrees with my assessment. The community has Harris with a rank of 57th overall (second round). If Harris does go in the second round, he'll have a great historical hit rate. This study shows that round two receivers have a 20% chance of becoming a WR1 and a 29% chance of becoming a WR2. With all of that in mind, Harris is the WR12 in my 2025 dynasty rookie rankings. As I dive even deeper into Harris's profile, he could jump up a few spots. There are just quite a few receivers that I'm a fan of in this class. This places Harris as the 26th-ranked player in a Superflex format and 25th in a 1QB league.
