SUBSCRIBE NOW! ■■■■■FIVE TO FOLLOW KINGSTON CHARM (6th, Race 1) She didn't get the clearest passage in the straight and was untested late when she looked to have plenty to offer. There is another Midway race over a mile in a fortnight that has her name on it. SPYWIRE (2nd, Race 5) Early signs indicate the gelding operation has done the trick with this gelding, which would have gone even closer had he got out earlier. Take nothing away from King's Secret, he was excellent too. BEREZKA (4th, Race 5) Just ended up too far back on the inside but made up good ground in the straight behind King's Secret. She is building towards a win for sure. PIGGYBACK (3rd, Race 8) The Ciaron Maher-trained mare got caught in traffic in the home straight and was only able to build momentum late to finish third behind Misterkipchoge. She's racing well and another win isn't far away. BELVEDERE BOYS (2nd, Race 9) New import Elamaz's win in the McKell Cup had plenty of merit first-up in Australia while this Matt Dunn-trained stayer surged home to just miss. He will be ready to win third-up. ■■■■■STEWARDS SAY New Pharoah (Race 1): Reared when the gates opened and lost seven lengths at the start. He will be forced to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before racing again. How Much Better (Race 1): Apprentice Anna Roper was suspended for careless riding after her mount caused Pretty Tavi to lose its rightful running after shifting in at the 1000m. Vella's Best (Race 5): Winona Costin was suspended for careless riding after shifting in on this galloper when insufficiently clear of Loafer, resulted in it being carried in onto Sovereign Hill. Sir Artie (Race 6): Gave ground over the final 100m. He was found to be 1/5 lame in the near-foreleg post-race. Step Aside (Race 6): Came under pressure at the 600m with jockey Ash Morgan indicating he laid out rounding the home turn and did not respond to riding. No abnormalities were found other than a superficial abrasion to the near-fore bumper. Townsend (Race 9): Was found to be 1/5 lame in the off-foreleg. Deprivation (Race 10): The gelding was a late scratching at 1.46pm after being fractious en route to the course and sustaining a haematoma to its hip. ■■■■■CRUNCH TIME Red Rags To Bulls (Race 2): Near last on the turn, she rattled off a slick 33.70 seconds last 600m to win. All three of her closing splits of 11.61, 10.96 and 11.73 were the best of the race. Changing Colours (Race 4): Only had one runner behind turning for home before finishing off with a race-best last 600m of 34 seconds. Her final furlong of 11.44 was the difference. Elamaz (Race 9): Ran the best first three splits of the race to control the McKell Cup before running his last 600m in 34.76 seconds. Runner-up Belvedere Boys run home of 34.18 saw him just come up short. Slinky (Race 10): The fastest last 600m of the meeting went to this Bjorn Baker-trained mare, which settled a clear last in the final event before rocketing home in 32.88 seconds. ■■■■■TRACK TALK 'I am quite taken by him. His demeanour was good, his action remarkable.' Jockey Josh Parr on McKell Cup winner Elamaz. 'I have been going to Brisbane and it has been a whitewash to be honest.' Parr after returning to form with a winning treble. 'I still think the best is yet to come, once we get him up over a bit further.' Bjorn Baker on Rosehill winner Puntin. 'We are just hanging in there…I'm hoping we can get to 100 but are going to struggle.' Baker again on his season pursuit of 100 metro winners. 'Autumn Glow, Lady Shenandoah and Aeliana have had good spells, and we will see how they come up before deciding on their spring programs.' Champion trainer Chris Waller's star fillies have returned to work. ■■■■■THIS WEEK IN NSW RACING Monday: Taree Tuesday: Beaumont Newcastle Wednesday: Warwick Farm Thursday: Hawkesbury Friday: Tamworth Saturday: Rosehill Gardens, Wyong, Nyngan, Cowra Sunday: Grafton, Mudgee Originally published as Mitch Cohen's Blackbook: Five to follow from McKell Cup day

Hawkesbury best bets and inside mail for Thursday, June 26, 2025

The Daily Telegraph form analyst Mitch Cohen provides his best bets and race-by-race analysis for Hawkesbury and top picks at Lismore on Thursday. â– â– â– â– â– HAWKESBURY TIPS BEST BET Race 2 No.4: WILD THOUGHTS Lightly-raced talent poised for a big first-up showing to kick off his second preparation. NEXT BEST Race 3 No.4: LE CHOCOLAT First-up from a lengthy 38-week spell, this gelding has trialled up well and is ready to run a bold race fresh. VALUE BET Race 7 No.3: TOMBA Struggled on heavy ground first-up at Newcastle but can bounce back in a big way here with firmer footing. QUADDIE Race 4: 2, 5, 9 Race 5: 1, 3, 4, 6 Race 6: 1, 2, 7, 10 Race 7: 1, 3, 6, 9 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW JASON COLLETT is having a super season with another treble last Saturday and has great chances with Cold Brew, Miss Judas and True Amor. TRAINER TO FOLLOW Home track conditioner BRAD WIDDUP has had four runners on the card with The Grey and Audrey's Lane both right in the mix. LISMORE TIPS BEST BET Race 3 No.1: BRAVELY Scratched from Wednesday's meeting at Doomben for an easier assignment, he is going to take a power of beating. NEXT BEST Race 4 No.9: ALMALIKAT SARAH Found one better at her past two starts, this filly is ready to breakthrough in a winnable race. VALUE BET Race 7 No.10: LUVTOKNOW She has won two out of her past three on heavy ground and should relish the conditions again here. QUADDIE Race 4: 9 Race 5: 3, 4, 5, 7 Race 6: 2, 5, 7, 8 Race 7: 10, 14 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW DANNY PEISLEY has six rides across the card and can take advantage of several gun draws aboard the likes of Barron and Hardley Grey. TRAINER TO FOLLOW MATT DUNN dominates in this part of the world and with chances like Bravely, Almalikat Sarah and Dernier Lien all set to line up, he can have a fill up. â– â– â– â– â– HAWKESBURY INSIDE MAIL MALBORK CASTLE (1) is a son of trainer Richard Litt's former Group 1 gun Castelvecchio and is coming off a confidence boosting success last start. The three-year-old relished the step up to 1800m at Hawkesbury and should be well-suited at the same venue over 2200m. He can make it two on the spin here. TWILIGHT ELEGANCE (4) has mixed her form this preparation, breaking her maiden first-up over 1400m at Kembla before failing to fire over the Wyong mile. She's from the same family as former star Miss Finland so should appreciate the step up in trip. Her stablemate MAIRE DE PARIS (6) wasn't far off Malbork Castle last time. She can run well. BET: MALBORK CASTLE to win. WILD THOUGHTS (4) was scratched from Saturday's meeting on his home track at Kembla Grange to line up here. He's only had the one start to date but looks set to have a decent future. The son of So You Think wasn't far off subsequent stakes performer Modella in that debut over 1300m back on January 29. COLD BREW (1) has been runner-up in four of his five starts to date. He seems to still be putting it all together but a maiden victory isn't far away. MOCHIMA (7) and SISTER'S RUN (8) have both trialled up fairly ahead of their respective debuts. BET: WILD THOUGHTS to win. RACE 3: SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1500m) LE CHOCOLAT (4) is somewhat surprisingly still a maiden heading into the final weeks of his four-year-old season. The Chris Waller-trained galloper returns from a 38-week break with a couple of quiet trials typical of the stable. He finds himself in a winnable race here and a win might just be the confidence boost he needs to go on with it. THE BEAST (6) continues to knock at the door with seven placings in nine starts. He should settle on speed and be in this race a long way. JAMARNI (3) is racing consistently this time while Devoted To You in the unknown quantity. BET: LE CHOCOLAT to win, quinella 4,6. MISS JUDAS (5) has had her fair share of chances to break her maiden and gets another golden opportunity here. A placegetter in five of her 11 starts, the daughter of Microphone produced a tidy trial victory in the lead-up to her first-up assignment. 1000m looks to be the perfect kick-off point. EFHARISTO (2) hasn't been seen at the races for 83 weeks when she was runner-up to Erno's Cube in the 2023 Max Lees Classic. If she can recapture that form, she wins this but you have to take her on trust. ZING TO ME (9) had excuses first-up and is capable of bouncing back in a winnable race. BET: MISS JUDAS to win. THE GREY (4) looks as his name suggests and is trained on course with Brad Widdup. He finds this race third-up and should be ready to peak after battling on for third at the same track and trip last time. Widdup has added the blinkers again to keep his mind of the job. Father-son team Rob and Luke Price have two chances in ALL MACHIAVELLIAN (3) and MR ROCK IT (1) can both have claims. The former is the clear class runner if he brings his A-game while the latter has been racing well without winning this time in. DESI EMPEROR (6) keeps running into one better but it's hard to knock his consistency. BET: THE GREY to win. Boxed trifecta 1,3,4,6. AUDREY'S LANE (2) finds herself in the most competitive race on the program. The Brad Widdup-trained mare is first-up from 35-week break with a couple of trials under her belt. She's performed well fresh before and has loves the 1300m with two wins in a placing in three starts at the trip already. The firm track should be to TRUE AMOR's (7) liking. He looked like his wheels were spinning on rain-affected going in town but should get firmer footing here in easier grade. The blinkers go on. CALIFORNIA SECRET (1) has won his past two starts and gets in well considering after Braith Nock's 1.5kg claim. BET: AUDREY'S LANE each-way. TOMBA (3) was a complete forgive first-up at Newcastle when he didn't go a yard on heavy ground. The market said it all – drifting from $3.70 to $5.50 in betting – before only beating a runner home. Back on good ground here, he can bounce back in a big way over a 1500m trip he's won over before. KYEEMA (1) was scratched from Wednesday's Randwick Kensington meeting to target this race. The ex-Hong Kong galloper will take plenty out of his Kenso victory last time and a repeat of that performance undoubtedly has him right in this too. HEAVEN BOUND (6) strips fitter while CRIMSON MISS (9) is lightly-raced with her best in front of her.

SUBSCRIBE NOW! â– â– â– â– â– FIVE TO FOLLOW SHOW 'EM HOWL (1.4-length 4th of 14, race 2): It was a hard watch early in the straight with this gelding stuck in a pocket before rocketing home to finish alongside the placegetters in a race won by Calico Miss. He's still only very lightly-raced and it won't be long until he's winning a Highway. Calico Miss races away with the TAB Highway at Randwick! ðŸ'° @weir_mikayla @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 21, 2025 PRETTY POWERFUL (5-length 11th of 12, race 3): While only beating a runner home, this was a glorified barrier trial first-up for the Chris Waller -trained galloper. He looked to have plenty to offer and tipping we should still get a decent price next time. A very brave win for Brave One at Randwick! ðŸ'° @HawkesRacing @djgibbons22 @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 21, 2025 WEST OF DALBY (1.4-length 4th of 11, race 7): She's in her first full preparation for Matt Dale and did more than enough first-up to suggest she's in for a decent preparation. She was tightened for room late but looked to have something to offer. Lulumon dives and gets there in a close one at Randwick, and that's a double to Jason Collett! 🙌 @jason1coyle @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 21, 2025 IT'S A KNOCKOUT (4.1-length 1st of 15, race 8): This was by far the most dominant winner on the card and she seemingly still has her best still ahead of her. The Listed Winter Challenge next month looks a fantastic target for her. NOCK-OUT ðŸ'Š ✊ How were they ever going to beat It's A Knockout and Braith Nock?! The mare was dominant in the eighth at Randwick ðŸ'° @NockBraith @cmaherracing — 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) June 21, 2025 TIME QUEST (7th, race 9) The Matthew Smith-trained galloper was always going to find the Civic Stakes too short but he was excellent making up good ground from back in the pack. He's in for a great prep, just wait until he gets over more ground. Headley Grange wins first up to give @PrideRacing a Randwick double! 🙌 @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 7, 2025 • â– â– â– â– â– STEWARDS SAY Shropshire Lad (race 2): Was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close off in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Sakima (race 3): A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be slow to recover. Stallone (race 5): On jumping shifted out and bumped Hopper. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the near-hind coronet. Gitalong (race 7): Jockey Nash Rawiller reported the gelding never travelled comfortably and was quickly beaten straightening. He was concerned something was amiss but no abnormalities were found. The Lindsay Park galloper will be forced to trial. Defining (race 8): Jockey Dylan Gibbons thought something went amiss and eased the mare out of the race at the 400m. She was revealed to be coughing post-race and will undergo an endoscopic examination. • â– â– â– â– â– CRUNCH TIME Millie De Lune (race 4): The victim of a sluggish tempo, she surged home with the best final three furlong splits of the race to clock 33.49 seconds for the last 600m. It measured up favourably against the winner She's Unusual (33.98). Lulumon (race 7): Surged home from just off the speed to nail Storm The Ramparts on the line with a last 600m of 33.13 seconds that was among the best of the meeting. Lonhro's Queen surged home from last in the same race in 32.83. It's A Knockout (race 8): She finished off close to half a second faster than her near rival in a four length romp, clocking 34.84 seconds for the last 600m. Her 11.82 closing split was a clear race best. Headley Grange (race 9): Did enough to continue his sensational run with a 35.55 seconds last 600m in the feature event. Runner-up Welwal had the flashing light late, coming home in 34.90. HEADLEY GRANGE wins the Civic Stakes! A treble for Jason Collett as the rising @PrideRacing gelding notches another win, this time at Listed level, in the feature at Randwick and he held Welwal with Astero in third. @tabcomau — Racing NSW (@racing_nsw) June 21, 2025 â– â– â– â– â– TRACK TALK 'He's come back particularly well this preparation and we will go to the South Grafton Cup next. We will try and qualify him for one of the Dances.' – trainer Joe Pride on Headley Grange. "Nice to see him step up to that higher grade today." Hear from @PrideRacing and Jason Collett on Headley Grange, who won the Civic Stakes today! @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 21, 2025 'Mares that can win on Saturday a couple of times, you know there is a nice stakes race on the horizon.' – trainer Jason Coyle on Lulumon. Lulumon won a thriller earlier today - here’s what @jason1coyle and Jason Collett made of the win! @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 21, 2025 ' Brave One was a class above them, he's better than this grade.' – trainer John Hawkes. Get the latest on Brave One after his win at Randwick! @djgibbons22 @HawkesRacing @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 21, 2025 'We feel like we haven't had a proper crack with her yet. 'She was getting into her races and then had a little setback last time, now off that hopefully we can build forward and get more racing with her.' – co-trainer Tom Charlton on She's Unusual. "A lot of options going forward!" Tom Charlton and @TommyBerry21 tell us about She's Unusual ðŸ' @JohnOSheaRacing @aus_turf_club @OTIRacing — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 21, 2025 'He is everyone's favourite with his unusual markings. You can't miss them.' – Charlie Duckworth on Quantum Cat. It's Quantum Cat's day today! ðŸ± The striking @cwallerracing -trained galloper gets his first Australian win with @ZacLloydx in the saddle! @aus_turf_club — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) June 21, 2025 • L ulumon bounces back with stunning win â– â– â– â– â– NSW RACING: THE WEEK AHEAD Monday: Narromine, Scone Tuesday: Wyong, Port Macquarie Wednesday: Kensington Thursday: Hawkesbury, Lismore Friday: Moruya, Tamworth Saturday: Rosehill, Newcastle, Gundagai Sunday: Coffs Harbour, Dubbo â– â– â– â– â– RON DUFFICY'S ROYAL RANDWICK SNAPSHOT RUN OF THE DAY: Trainer Joe Pride has done a marvellous job placing Headley Grange through the grades getting the best out of him. This unassuming type continues to deliver and his record now is that of a pretty good horse. FORGET THEY RAN: Lightly raced Port Macquarie 3yo Show 'Em Howl was specked at good odds in the Highway and they might have been unlucky not to get a collect. He was held up at stages in the straight and motored when finally balanced late. THE BLACK BOOK: I wouldn't give up on the heavily backed beaten favourite Exit Fee. He got very hot behind the barrier and just raced a touch fresh and should improve off this hitout. I wouldn't hesitate to back him in another upcoming Highway.
