MZP council seeks probe into rest house explosion

Aizawl: The federal council of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) on Thursday called upon the Mizoram govt to take swift action regarding the explosion at a forest department rest house. The incident occurred at Thaidawr hill within Phuldungsei village in Mizoram territory, and the council requested a thorough investigation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Unidentified individuals detonated explosives at the forest guest house, which was being constructed by the Tripura govt at Thaidawr hill, between 2 and 3am on Wednesday. The blast resulted in substantial damage to the incomplete structure. The MZP issued a statement denouncing the violent act within Mizoram's borders and urged the state govt to investigate the matter, halt Tripura's construction activities, and station state police in the area. The statement noted, "The fact that the explosion happened at the time the Tripura State Rifles were on duty can be regarded as intention to tarnish the image of Mizoram and also terrorise the villagers of Phuldungsei. " At the federal council meeting, which represents the organisation's second-highest decision-making body, members passed a resolution stating that the MZP would maintain its opposition to the Mizoram-Myanmar border fencing, citing concerns about its impact on the unity of 'Zofate' or ethnic Mizos. The council also resolved to address the issue of excessive fees charged by certain state-funded educational institutions. Additionally, they decided to pursue action against teachers who employ proxy staff, seeking govt intervention against those who use substitutes in their positions.

Govt allocates road funds, MZP calls off proposed bandh

1 2 Aizawl: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) Lunglei southern headquarters on Thursday called off its proposed bandh scheduled from Friday after the state govt issued an order allocating additional Rs 58.99 crore for the maintenance of the Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei (ATL) Road, along with an assurance of further financial support. The student body had launched a blockade on the ATL Road from Monday in protest against the govt's decision to divert Rs 44.89 crore — out of the originally sanctioned Rs 90.69 crore for ATL Road maintenance — for road works in Aizawl city. In a statement, the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) Lunglei district headquarters clarified that the diversion of Rs 44.89 crore was part of an interim adjustment, and CM Lalduhoma had assured that once the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) finalises the revised estimates, additional sanctions — possibly exceeding Rs 100 crore — would be provided as required. However, given the urgency of the situation, the CM approved an immediate release of Rs 58.99 crore from various sources, which the party described as a commendable step.
